Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

But let's face reality, Olson is no Brady Hjelle either. As Rohlik says, it is what it is.
Let's not forget as stellar as Hjelle was his senior year he didn't develop into that level of play until his SENIOR year.
I see no reason Olson couldn't stay and develop more and compete to be the starter. You have much more time in practice than you do in games so his not starting is no serious detriment to his developing into a player that may someday make the NHL. HOWEVER if he does start where he goes next and he gives up goals like he did here that will be much more of a detriment to his future than not starting here in the eyes of the scouts.

Without a doubt. Joe Exeter is amazing what he can teach these boys.

if anyone is up to a doubleheader this weekend you can catch the women at 4PM against Bemidji State at the Ice Rink and then head over to the Schott at 8 PM for the men's game against Niagara.

I hear ya. It's always better to have 2 goalies battling for the starting spot of each game. It also makes them both better in practice. It lights a FIRE under there butts to be better. :)

If you think you're all that so much so that you leave because you didn't get what you felt you deserved, then maybe you aren't what you think you are?

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

What???? These kids that are drafted ...make decisions (I'm sure with their families) based on a number of things. Not the least of which is how they can play and develop while going to college. There is also a huge input from the NHL team that has drafted them.
If Olson is not getting the playing time here, and not able to develop his game, then he should leave. He's not bolting and running so he can be more appreciated. He's making a tough decision that will ultimately allow him to play and develop his hockey game.
As for people questioning his commitment to the program....let's just say that OSU has been known to drop the ball in that department with over a dozen players in the last few years.

Again...what????

I hear ya. I'm just guessing until we hear the real story of why Olson left. It could be many such as , he was fearing his bad start was going to put him on the bench all season , his parents pressured him , the big guy with the NHL team told him what to do. GOOD LUCK to the kid.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

Sounds like they started a bit slow tonight and woke up in time to win their 5th in 6 tries. Welcome back Tanner and Dzingle gets another goal thats 3 in 4 games for him after starting the season in a slump. Congrats to Matt on a fantastic game.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

Good win tonight but sloppy at times. The crisp passing & puck handling from the last game was mostly lacking.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

Sounds like the ATM (Alex-Tanner-Max) line was clicking last night ... 10 points according to the box score.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

Buckeyes rolling tonight ... 6-1 late in the second.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes - Coach Rohlik - First Year in the Big Ten

what happened to Tomkins?

Team website says ,

In the game, Ohio State outshot Niagara, 37-16. Tomkins started the for the Buckeyes and stopped the only shot he faced before he suffered an injury and was replaced by Davis 3:44 into the contest. Davis played 56:16 and picked up the win, making 14 saves and allowing one goal. Ignagni had 13 saves on 17 shots for Niagara in 22:42. Jackson Teichroeb had 18 saves, allowing two goals, in 37:18 of relief.

Probably too soon for an accurate prediction. Usually after an injury several days must pass and it re-examined before a doctor can make a more detailed determination in the case of tissue injury.
However the coaches must be in panic mode when in a week your #3 goalie is now your starter! It will be an VERY interesting week to see what solutions if any they come up with.
Davis seemed not too terribly challenged in net this game and appeared to get more comfortable in net as the game progressed and the butterflies probably wore off. I noticed his dad didn't waste any time in filming his boy and who could blame him? LOL!
This does bring back to the debate now how badly Olson screwed his team by his rash decision and now lost his best opportunity to recover the starter's job. Too bad for him and it's his loss!

Great weekend for the boys! Unfortunately it does sound like Tomkins will be out for an extended period of time. Will wait for an official release from OSU before making any judgement.

The Knucklebucks and Block O are working behind the scenes with Athletics in getting a Booster group put back together. Trying to get as many Alums and fans together as a show of force on a new fan group page on Facebook. If you're on Facebook, please join the group and the discussion. New page created today at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Scarlet-Liners/339581719514832

Go Bucks!

It's unlikely a booster group can happen. The previous booster group, The Center Ice Club wanted to become re-established but apparently the new rules adopted by the University make a hockey boosters organization an impossibility. There are numerous things that in the eyes of the NCAA make one a booster but OSU will not authorize an OFFICIAL boosters group.

There is some new blood in the athletics department now that Chris Schneider is gone that seems to think a booster group is a possibility.
