Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

Not to terribly upset tonight i thougth it was a very hard fought game and with a couple bounces it could have gone either way. I dont think cal had a shot at 2 of the 3 goals the michigan shooters took advantage of the ohio state defenseman using him as a screen and what a shot by louie for that 3rd goal. Now on the 2nd goal that was god awful for cal to give up and a back breaker in my opinion. Right before that 2nd michigan goal albert wiffed on a half empty net but i am going to watch the game again and see if the puck was stuck to the ice from it being to wet. A split is what i wanted from this series and lets hope the guys can deliever tomorrow. Also not as much post whistle action tonight a little surprised and the michigan students were more tame i thought the chants didnt come as often as ive seen in the past.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

I feel good about this weekend because I'm leaving my team jinxing boyfriend at home. I apologize to the Michigan fans and players for having taken that jinx to the Joe and Miami with me.
Ouch! Do I sense a breakup here for the good of the team? lol! A good game tonight with lots of action. Michigan played with more continuity than OSU but it's nothing more than you would expect for home ice advantage. Michigan did a good job especially defensively keeping our opportunities few. Looking forward to tomorrows game, should be a good one.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

Good fight by the Buckeyes tonight. I expected a tough game with Michigan coming off the sweep at Miami and coming back home to Yost. Maybe we can get tomorrow's game and get out of there with a split and three points.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

For those who saw the hit Dries took into the glass you could tell what I said before about the glass there at Yost. No give at all, so he absorbed the full force of it. You learn quick there not to let someone zero in on you and drive you into it.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

We liked that regional, as well.
Oh, I remember. I certainly stayed for the second game.

You guys beating the Spartans as Ron Mason's going away gift and then Michigan beating North Dakota in one of the best days in Yost, ever. I seem to remember that, at the begining of the game, the UM fans were about split in whom they were rooting for in the OSU/MSU game, but at the end, pretty much everyone was pulling for OSU. (It hurts to admit that, I will admit)
That doubleheader was definitely one of my greatest hockey days ever; good to hear that it's also remembered that way on your end.

As for the Wolverine fans cheering on the Buckeyes, that was one of the most surreal experiences of my life, period. I only drove a few hours up Route 23, but it was as if I had traveled to an alternate universe. And they say politics makes for strange bedfellows.;)

Had to have been just as surreal for the Spatan fans- I thought it was about 50/50 for Michgian fans- it was LOUD.

Quite the game last night- and the bucks did get a lot of shots on net- well above Michigan for most of the game. It wasn't until late until we caught up. Both team missed some incredible chances- very open nets. It was a little nerve wracking that we could not bury some of those chances.

BTW, poor Rust. Guy just can't buy a good shot right now. He "should" have had 2. Oh, well.

I thought Ron Mason's "going away gift" was losing at the Yost regional to Colorado College in his final game and getting an "Oh, C-YA!" from the students as he left the ice.

Yup, that is correct. He and Miller, both.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

Caught the last 15 minutes of this game!! What an enjoyale pace to it. Always someone making dynamic plays.

Different than what I expected- with Michigan rushing defensemen into the play, and OSU countering turnovers... I expected a boring 2-1 type game. The goalscorers for both teams showed up, but Hunwick was the difference again.

Anyone think Wilkins is still a tool, though?

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

Friday Night Game.

I thought the Bucks owned the first period as they controled the pace. Again they couldn't put the puck in the net. The second and third period was all Michigan. It was a FUN game to watch win or lose. GO BUCKS GO.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

Tonight the bucks were lucky to be in the game. Cal made save after save to keep them in it. Michigans transition game was killer tonight. Most times when you dont convert on a 5 minute PP you lose. After being down 2 goals i thougth they battled back and had some great chances to tie the game but just couldnt convert Crain missed a half empty net on that PP. All 4 games were decided by 1 goal. Much more post whistle action tonight.Congrats to Michigan on a well deserved sweep this weekend who knows maybe round 3 in the playoffs.

It was a great shot by Louie but it also took a drastic deflection off the arm of one of the OSU dman (i think #4) and jumped over Heeter. Great shot but a lucky break also.

The highlights on mgoblue.com show that #20 Severyn threw his stick back to try and break up the play, but it appeared that he deflected a shot off his blade from initially going wide of the net, to the roof of the net. Nice break, not so much a nice shot.

There's no reason Saturday night's game should have been as close and exciting as it was had it not been for Heeter. Despite the loss, he was named the #1 star and with good reason. Michigan just kept coming at OSU the first 40 minutes. They created more quality scoring chances last night than any game in recent memory. Lack of finishing off those chances is still a concern, but the fact that they gave themselves those chances is at least a start. Even though the PP continues their 0-for-Forever streak (like 0-for-20 over last four games or something), it at least looked like they had a plan Saturday night...well, save for that awful shorthanded breakaway. But they were setting up, passing around, creating opportunities on the doorstep and getting shots. Again, other than not finishing off those chances, I can't complain too much. Penalty kill looked strong, too. Ohio State did not register one shot on goal during the five minute major. That's impressive given how poor our PK has been. Hunwick was strong in net again last night, too, and came up with several key glove saves, the biggest being with a minute left and the OSU goalie pulled.

Glad Michigan held on for the win. When you're only up 2-0 after all the chances they were getting, you start getting the feeling that you're letting the opponent hang around too long. Then they got the shorty, 5 min PP, and suddenly the game takes a new twist. But U-M keeps playing like that and hopefully the goals and wins will keep on coming.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

Michigan played very aggressive and disrupted OSU's efforts constantly. Every time OSU tried to pass or make a play on the puck there was a Michigan stick in the way. OSU didn't do much to help themselves either when you have a 5 minute power play and spend most of it chasing the puck back to your end. Congrats to UM for the wins, you earned it.

Re: Ohio State at Michigan feb 11 and 12

tBTN said Michigan is 0 fer 23 on the PP. Even worse, they've given up 2 shorties in that span. Their PP was at 20% before the drought, it's at 17% now.

My Dad and I have been going to see the Broncos play this year. Michigan will be lucky to split if they play this way vs them. They have got to find some offense.

By my math, Western's 2 for 33 since the NMU series (3-1-2) on the power play. Maybe both teams can agree to decline penalties.
