Ohio State - 2014/2015

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

That was one of the weirdest Hockey games I have ever watched in my life. Seriously, that was like a throwback to the 70s.

You guys are tough little buggers to get rid of in your building. I'm not really surprised you cut Michigan's cut to only 2 in the 3rd. Just last season, you erased a 4 goal deficit in the 3rd in that building. Thankfully, Michigan scored late to escape in that one. ;)

Hindsight being 20/20, Michigan was in no danger of losing that game IMO. But in the moment, I was really sweating there.

BTW, any word on you guys getting a Hockey-specific arena? When that game started with the first puck drop, I was literally shocked at how quiet it sounded. Maybe it was just FSN's audio, but that was almost surreal. I'd think your old rink would provide a better and more intimate atmosphere. But, of course, the dollars dictate it all.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

This team just refuses to play any kind of defense. 7 of the 9 goals with a goalie in net were scored either on the side or in front of the net with no one attempting to impeded the Michigan player. I do like the fight they showed in making an effort all night long it was just the opposite in Ann Arbor in December. Michigan has scored 18 goals in 2 games now against Ohio State and 7 of those have been PPG and 4 of the PPG have come on 5 minute Majors. Playing without 8 regulars (5 injured and 4 sick) didnt help but the defensive lapses have occurred all season and seem to be getting worse. Like i said before this team has no on ice leader and it shows terribly. Coach can show they where things are wrong and show them how to fix it or where to be but the players on the ice have to take the bull by the horns and do it themselves. We have just over 2 months left in this season and if they dont fix the defensive zone its going to be a very long rest of this season.

It was very weird watching in person as well. This team just flat out will not play defense and its hard to watch at times. Your team is fast and moves the puck so well. I like that line of Hyman, Larkin and Kile they were all over the score sheet last night. As far as a new arena its been talked about but nothing is in the plans right now i think they even have blue prints somewhere as to what the arena is going to look like. They are tearing down St. John arena soon and to do that they must tear down the ice arena where both the mens and womens team practices so they will have to get moving on that arena sometime soon. As i was sitting at the game when Ohio State scored the 6th goal i thought if they can get the 7th they will get the 8th to tie but of course a short time later another Michigan player left all alone for a tap in and that ended my thought of a tie game lol.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

It looked like Steckel-Umberger-Kesler out there last night with how easily OSU sniped many of its goals.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Did you guys know we had some key players out due to illness and others not at 100% playing ill as well.
That's why Michigan scored many times especially from the back side of the goalie. Guys were having to play positions that weren't normally theirs and it threw off their defense.

I was not at the game, so I probably shouldn't comment on it, really. I will just say when you score 6 goals, you should win a hockey game. I was at our women's game against North Dakota Friday night. In regard to a hockey-specific arena, I sincerely hope I live long enough to see it. Our facilities are hurting both programs. As you alluded to, the Schott is a horrible atmosphere for a college hockey game. On the women's side, the OSU Ice Rink, along with Minnesota State's All Seasons Arena, are the two worst facilities in the WCHA. The only persons on this planet who don't realize how much these facilities are hurting our programs are the ones in the OSU Athletic Department. Klbaum1077 is correct, eventually St. John Arena will be torn down (although I am not holding my breath), and when that happens, OSU will have to replace the Ice Rink and also the French Field House as the infrastructure for all three buildings is located in St. John Arena. The women's hockey locker room is actually in St. John Arena. The players walk out of St. John, across the breezeway separating the two buildings, then into the OSU Ice Rink. I used to be of the mind that we needed an 8,000-9,000-seat arena, but at this point, I would totally settle for a 6,000-seat arena like Penn State built. As some have said in the past, we could still play some of the bigger men's games in the Schott if necessary (Friday's game drew 8,156 according to the box score).

Yes i did know that and it really doesnt matter this team hasnt played defense all season long. Missing players is not an excuse for leaving guys all by themselves at the side of the net. If your on the ice then do your job and play hockey they way its supposed to be played. What you posted is a losers mentality and if this team thinks that way then its going to be a very long 2 months.

I disagree. Having to change everything around for players with no chance to prepare for it throws everything off.
Don't forget, if that Bullsh*t 5 minute major wasn't called, how close would the game have been?
FOUR times this season, last Friday, last weekend at Penn State and December at Michigan and at Miami we had 5 min major contact to the head calls against us on legit shoulder to shoulder checks.
Any time we put a hit on someone that would by normal in an NHL game we get called for it. Something very wrong with this season's officiating!

so did the net move spots on the ice? none of the players changed positions besides Brevig and he did that last week. These guys have played hockey for a long time and should know what there responsibility is on defense. Clark cost them 2 goals by just being him and not knowing what to do. Lampasso cost them a goal in the 2nd period because he stopping skating and let his man just stand at the side of the net. Those mistakes have been made all season long and has nothing to do with guys being hurt or sick. This team dont have a leader and until they get one this season is going no place and fast.

I tend to agree with Klbaum1077 on this one. It's way too late in the season for guys to not know where they are supposed to be on the ice. Having said that, we have a big series this weekend! Would be nice to sweep, but I'm probably dreaming on that one. Six points this weekend would be huge. The light bulb has to go off for these guys eventually, doesn't it? I know we lost some scoring from last season but there is still a lot of talent on this team, way too much talent for them to be playing the way they are. Let's Go Bucks! See you Saturday, Klbaum1077!!! Road trip!!!

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

The Buckeyes drop game one of this series 4-1 in East Lansing. A bunch of us are taking a bus trip tomorrow to the game. Obviously hoping for a better result.

This is the only time that I'll be rooting for you guys. I actually hate sparty more than you. I've met klbaum on person before at Yost in Ann Arbor before. Nice guy, but I still dislike ohio state...

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Sparty was anticipating what we were doing while we were not as ready for them and spent too much time chasing. Hopefully tonight will be better and a decent Ohio State contingent will be present as well to boost the team.
And Umich, we don't like you either but we do respect your team. Besides, we will always dominate football if nothing else. LOL!

I wouldn't be so sure about that although you pretty much have since 2001. Two words, John Cooper.

Seriously, Harbaugh v. Meyer has the looks of a Bo v. Woody 2.0 but it doesn't seem realistic.

Michigan Hockey is on a hot streak right now but I'm still not fond of our goaltending or defense. They can score, but hockey is about more than just scoring...

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

New week and same old team both nights. The season is starting to slip away if it hasnt already. The passing on this team has not gotten any better since the season started and that concerns me. You might say well they have guys out and that is a fact but what also is a fact is the passing has been off from the get go this year. They have 2 weeks to get ready and hopefully healthy for a trip to Minnesota. The Gophers havent been nearly as good as they were early in the year but the Buckeyes havent been good all year long either. The 5 minutes penalties have got to stop. Last night two penalties were just plain stupid. Wiess nailed the guy with his elbow in the head and Healey took 4 steps before hitting the Spartan in the back. Those penalties ended any chance they had a coming back in the hockey game. Self discipline is a major problem on this team. Maybe once those guys come back Coach will sit a guy who gets a 5 minute major that is the only way i can see it changing.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Klbaum1077, I saw the exact same thing last night. Our passing has been suspect all season and continued to be subpar last night. In spite of the poor passing, we were still in the game. Then late in the third period, inexplicably, we take two five-minute majors. That is inexcusable, plain and simple. This season is definitely slipping away, no question about that.
