Ohio State - 2014/2015

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

I'm looking more at how we looked last year at this time compared to now.
The first half of last season we were very porous on defense, our passing was poor and we lacked chemistry on where to anticipate where the puck and our teammates would be. Now that certainly changed later on and I think the improvements carried over to this season.
There are SO many little things that the team executed well yesterday that shows the retention of the team they were at the conclusion of last season so that I have quite a bit of optimism for this season and it's not solely based on loyalty to my team.
I also think the freshmen showed they meshed quite easily into the team and our system and show great promise and potential.
Yes, I think this season may well be the one we've been waiting for, for so long now.

Here is your brief PC scouting report...

Huge goalie that is 6'6 and could have went pro after the 2013-2014 season. Was a freshman all-america. Two years ago and was the usa wjc goalie last year in Sweden.

They return Jankiwski who was a first round pick by the flames three years ago...he is like 6'2-6'3 and can be taken off the luck. Elite hands in the open ice and just needs to get stronger on the puck.

Best returning scorer is Mauermann who is an undersized senior that has outperformed his recruiting stature as he was a preferred walkon at PC.

PC returns their top four dmen plus a freshman in Jake Walman is expected to start...he was the top prospect in a Cabarian leagues last year and is an offensive dman.

Feel free to ask away and I will help as I can

Oh, I wouldn't read too much into an exhibition game. Sound familiar?:D;)

That said, it was an excellent result. I especially enjoyed going 3 for 4 on the Power Play. We looked positively lethal with the man advantage.

Again, who knows if that will be the case in NCAA play, when the numbers actually count. But it was very nice to see.

Haha, you got me! Love it! Um, yes, that definitely sounds familiar! :) :D

Hey Ohio fans. I'm planning on visiting for my first time to catch the game on Saturday. Is there a bar / restaurant / food that is a must try? I'm talking campus wide iconic, signature dishes here. A true Ohio experience. Any assistance is appreciated!

For what's unique to campus it's all on High Street but a younger forum member would know more than me what exactly is there these days. What I do know is Tommy's Pizza east of the arena on Lane Ave is known for their Italian subs.
If you want good food at the arena don't buy the stuff at the stands in the concourse. A entrée is $9.00 not including a drink. at the bottom of the arena at the ice level in the north east corner of the arena is a bar/lounge called The Boardroom. For twenty bucks there is an all you can eat buffet of GOOD food and it's there for you from pre-game through the beginning of 3rd period and you can keep going back all game long with the wristband they give you. You can only use the NE elevator to it BEFORE the game. After that it's dedicated to pressbox staff only. You can also access it by going down to the glass at the section 124/127 entranceway and entering the tunnel there. Any usher can direct you.
Have a safe trip here and glad you can make it to support your team!

Eddie George's restaurant on High Street appeals to visitors, particularly sports visitors. I've only been there a couple of times, but both times the food was good.

Lennox Center is actually closer to the Schott, and has good options. Unfortunately most or all of the restaurants are part of chains, as opposed to anything uniquely Ohio.

For better or worse, the kind of places slowe is talking about tend to be out in neighborhoods beyond the immediate campus area. Grandview Heights, German Village, Short North, etc.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Finally game day is here. I am not able to make it down this weekend but will be following from home. Go Bucks and show the country you guys can play with one of the top teams in the country.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Good luck this weekend against my Friars...should be two good games. I hope PC sweeps them but lets hope no one gets injured for either team!

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Wow what a game and start to the season. Greco with the gwg hatty and 2 helpers from Fritz. Hopefully carry it over to Sat but nice have one w on the board!

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

The problem for us was breakdowns on D letting them get easy goals. We had to play catch up to our mistakes.
The other troubling thing was we were allowing them to work their rotation and cycle routine too often uncontested in our end. Such things don't usually end well. We need hits and bodies taken off the puck instead of trying to play stick to stick!

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Not going to win many games PC giving up five goals...disappointing to give up that many with Gillies in goal.

Don't want to leave you hanging; for a truly outstanding burger try:

The Thurman Café
183 Thurman Avenue
Columbus, Ohio 43206

This a German Village location, but is worth the relatively short drive from campus. FWIW, the Thurman Café and its burgers have been featured on Food Network. Let us know if you go.

While you are correct, we need to acknowledge that this is a really good Providence team, with both size and skill. I was proud of the way our guys kept coming back stronger each time PC took the lead. Perseverance, to say the least.

Good win by you guys...I am more disappointed in PC giving up five goals which I don't think has happened since more than once in the last two years..

OSU just may very well sweep #3. Boys were strong tonight and fought back at every chance. When Greco came out of the box he was like a laser, focused on the puck and scored less than 8 seconds later.

PC may have a gargantuan goal tender, but the OSU boys have grit and determination. Don't think for one minute you are going to come to Columbus and take us for granted. These boys took down #1 Minnesota last year, twice if I recall.

OSU has some things to work on, but for opening night this was a huge win and a great start to the season. Can't wait for more!

I never took you guys for granted but the expectations are really high for PC so got to play up to expectations and giving up five goals with that goalie who has been inconsistent is not getting it done....

We certainly understand your frustration, we all have been there. We felt last year that if we got the conference berth to the NCAA's we had a strong chance of going all the way.
Even after some impressive wins against the traditional power programs we received no love at all in the preseason rankings and I think because of that we really felt we had something to prove and Providence provided that coming here with the #3 ranking.
I can tell you from experience with our football program that when you're ranked high it puts a target on your back for the other teams!

Expectations are really high for the Buckeyes as well. Looking forward to the sweep tonight.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

A very good start to the season. Agree that there were too many defensive lapses, but part of that is the fact they were playing a very good and experienced team in Providence.

Understand Shilkey will miss tonight's game per Rohlik's presser after the game. Hope he's not out for long.
