Ohio State - 2014/2015

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

This is old news (came out yesterday), but I just saw on the Ohio State athletic website that we are losing Max McCormick. He signed with the Ottawa Senators and will forego his senior year.

Will be interesting to see if they bring in one of the very young kids to replace him. Of course they may have expected this and won't need a replacement. The two kids from Alberta may have to contribute very early.

Losing Max is a big blow but the next man as they say will have to take its place.

Looks like we are going to find out right away how well Rohlik recruited as some of the youngsters will need to step up and fill the void left by the early departures of Dzingel and McCormick.

Re: Ohio State - 2014/2015

Let's see - the season ended on March 22 and it took until June 2 to figure this out and announce it?

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's hockey team has voted on its annual team awards, with junior First Team All-American Ryan Dzingel leading the way as the squad's MVP.

Senior Curtis Gedig, a native of West Kelowna, British Columbia, was tabbed the team's Best Defensive Player for the second year in a row.

Nick Schilkey, a Big Ten All-Rookie Team selection from Marysville, Michigan, was named the Buckeyes' Rookie of the Year.

Nick Oddo, a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, was tabbed the team's Unsung Player.

Sophomore and Faribault, Minnesota, native Anthony Greco was voted the Most Improved Player.

Sophomore Sam Jardine, a sport industry major from Lacombe, Alberta, received the team's Scholar-Athlete honor.

5th place looks like a reasonable ceiling for the hairless nuts.

I don't know how good Guelph is going to be in the CIS, but Ohio State defeated them in exhibition play yesterday 7-1, not a bad start to the season. It gets quite a bit tougher next weekend when #3 Providence comes to Columbus. We'll find out more about our team then.

Oh, I wouldn't read too much into an exhibition game. Sound familiar?:D;)

That said, it was an excellent result. I especially enjoyed going 3 for 4 on the Power Play. We looked positively lethal with the man advantage.

Again, who knows if that will be the case in NCAA play, when the numbers actually count. But it was very nice to see.
