OHIO STATE ( 2013 summer talk , The Great & Powerfull Coach OZ. )

Re: OHIO STATE ( 2013 summer talk , The Great & Powerfull Coach OZ. )

I like Chris, a very intense young man on the ice. The only negative is that intensity caused him to commit some ill timed penalties a number of games this season.

I will be shocked if Hjelle does not get drafted or at least gets a tryout with someone. He was obviously one of the top goalies in the country this season.

he is not eligible to be drafted. he is too old. he was passed over in each of his eligible years.

it appears there is very little interest at the nhl level. everything I have seen is that the nhl feels he is too small to be a big time prospect. you would think there would be a little more interest than what has been shown so far - but every list I have seen of top eligible UFA college players - he isnt on it.

WOW , I'm sure some ECHL OR European team will pick him up. Maybe he's done & doesn't want to play anymore?

If it weren't for bad breakdowns by our defense this season hanging Brady out to dry I'm certain his stats would have been the best in the country.

Thanks for the info. Hard to believe no one is looking at him after the numbers he put up this season. Hopefully someone at least gives him a tryout. I think the size thing is overrated, at least with goalies. If you can stop the puck, you can stop the puck, whether you are 6'5" (ie. Pekka Rinne), 5'11" (ie. Tim Thomas), or 6'1" (ie. Jonathan Quick). Obviously I am not comparing Hjelle to those guys at this point, just a height reference as Hjelle is listed at 5'11"

Smurf Hunwick is playing in the Coast, so I am certain Brady will have an opportunity there at least.

Been on vacation and out of the loop for a bit. Just wanted to say good luck to Chris Crane. I had high hopes for him this season just didn't seem to click. I'll miss hearing his Dad in the crowd.

Crane officially signed with San Jose today and Brady signed with the Florida Everblades/

I was trying to confirm this. I didn't see a release from the Everblades just twitter talk.

Re: OHIO STATE ( 2013 summer talk , The Great & Powerfull Coach OZ. )

I was just on the Everblades site trying to find something and didn't have any luck myself.

Cal Heeter will be on the Flyers bench tonight backing up Bryz until Steve Mason arrives. Wild day of trades by the Jackets

Anyone watching the Frozen Four this weekend? I'll still be at work for the first game, but will try to tune in the second game. I really like this year's Frozen Four just because of who is there and the fact that someone will come out of it with their first-ever National Title (at the Division I level). However, my question then becomes, if UMass-Lowell, Quinnipiac, St. Cloud State, and Yale can put championship-caliber hockey teams on the ice, why can't Ohio State put a championship-caliber hockey team on the ice?!?

Good point. This year has some diferent names in the tournament. Alot of the regular big names got beat out early. Crazy that not one Michigan team is in it. I think that's a record that goes way back. Ohio State needs to find a Head Coach that is in it for the long run & has a BIG hockey heart for the program. :)

I have hope that Oz is in this for the long run. The other side of that coin, though, is if the university is not going to show that they are 100% committed to the sport (you show that by building the hockey program their own building), then why should a coach be 100% committed to the university?!? I guess I can see both sides of the debate. It's up to Gene Smith and the athletic department as to what caliber of hockey program they want to have. If they want to have one of the best programs in the country, they'll get off their butts and get it built (new hockey arena). Otherwise, we continue to be a third-tier program that ends up with new coaches every five years. Hopefully we make some noise this coming season and Oz decides to stay in it for the long haul.

congratulations to Brady Hjelle. First team All American - the third one in OSU history (Pooley and Boisvert).
