Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

FYI for Laker fans that watch WTOP10's stream on the athletics website - this weekend's games - starting with men's and women's hoops today, women's and men's hockey Saturday and women's hockey Sunday - the station installed and will be testing new advanced streaming server that should improve overall quality and reliability whether you have a slow or fast broadband connection. There will be some tweaking for sure, but if you have feedback - other than "it's great" or "it sucks" - please post as that information will be helpful as we analyze the distribution stream from campus to your computer. There was an amazing quality improvement watching last night's news and studio shows, but we all know it real test will be following a puck or a basketball this weekend. I expect success, but if the video and audio quality is lacking, please provide feedback with as much detail as you are comfortable sharing. Go Lakers!

Gilbert btwn the pipes????????
I think it will be Gilbert unless Zawadski was super human in practice. He bounced back after a less than stellar first game with a superb game last Saturday. Some of the saves he made were stellar and I think he gets the start in all the important games unless he plays his way out of the job. If Eddie goes against his MO and has a goalie rotation then it is Zawadski's turn. Either way I think the goaltending will be good which is nice considering the tough time the Laker's have had finding the twine to this point.

I'm certainly thinking so. He made some incredible saves last weekend in Cortland when the team really needed it, or else the score could've been a lot different than 4-1. The only goal he was beaten on was a quick shot right off a draw and through traffic, nothing he could do on it.

Agreed, Gilbert kept Oswego in the game last week. I assume he gets the start again.

Definitely agreed. It's good to know that we got someone solid like Z backing him up in case he needs a rest or gets injured though.

I still feel like we know almost nothing about Jasmin, though. I'm assuming by the fact that he hasn't started a game yet that he's not performing in practice at the same level as the other two, but we really just don't know. Maybe this year isn't his year, but does anyone have any idea about what his potential looks like for years to come?

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I had a discussion about him last night with a father whose son played with him last year in prep school. He told me he is a good goalie. He played a competitive schedule against the best prep teams in the east such as Kimball Union which was loaded with d1 players. He was described as solid standup keeper. He also told me he gets down on himself if he gives up one or two. He was described as probably not ready yet for this level. Time will tell.

Thanks Buck. I look forward to see what he'll be able to contribute in the years to come.

Really liked what I saw from Galati and Neil tonight. Gilbert probably wishing he had one of those goals back. He wasn't tested much of the first half of the game but looked good, not great.

I think tonight really served to extend the goaltending question in Oswego rather than answer it. Two in-conference games next weekend game will have serious consequences for the SUNYAC. Do you stick with Gilbert or give Z a try? Genny won't roll over like some of the lesser teams in the SUNYAC. They're feeling pretty good after taking down a team like Hobart yesterday. Geneseo will be a good test for Oswego against a team capable of slaying some giants. You want to put your best guys forward. Is that Gilbert? Maybe. What do you guys think?

Wasn't that a win for Oswego???????

Are we back on the "we didn't beat somebody bad enough kick again"?

I guess the question is whether or not Gilbert is solid enough to stand up to the top offenses in D-III. He's looked great at times, and let in some goals he probably should have had. As a sophomore with 2.5 games experience coming into the season and two other freshman goalies on the roster the question becomes is he the guy right now, or should the Lakers experiment to see who their true number 1 is for the season?

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

You guys all thought Hare was a god and to me he looked great at times but let in some really awful goals. The first two Elmira goals, I'm sure he wants back but he also made some really nice saves. The timing of the bad goals you give up is really what is important and when the game was in the balance in the second period he kept the puck put of the net. I still think he is the guy for the big games.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Wasn't able to watch the game for I had to work the SUNY Canton game last night. It is to bad the Elmira isn't the gold standard in the ECAC West anymore for they seem to have issues. But still the Elmira game was still a good test. It looks like the Lakers needs some work on the specialty teams. With the goal tending, let Gilbert go in net until something terrible happens and lets see how he handles adversity. The 2 questions I have for those who saw the game is how did the team chemistry look and how was the hustle factor?

Not having seen this team in a couple weeks, their improvement was noticeable. They are buying in and fighting hard for pucks against the boards, and winning many. The fore-check for two periods was relentless. A lot of hustle and a lot of speed which was wreaking havoc last night. The chemistry is getting better every game. You caught some glimpses of the Oswego quick transition out of their zone, the passes are connecting more, and even had a highlight reel odd man rush goal last night. It definitely is coming together, and it's fun to watch

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The compete level with this group is very high. The chemistry is coming along with Neil, Botten and Galati leading the way in that area, they are really fun to watch. I think the new line of Bonner, Adams and Badham has some potential as Badham looked the best he has offensively in a long time last night.

The Powerplay is not great to say the least, they possess the puck a lot but don't seem to get much to the net. They did have one really good play last night but Hulshof hit the post. The Penalty kill is good, the 5 on 3 goal was a tough one because I felt Gilbert should have had the initial shot. The second one they over played to guy with the puck and left the goal scorer all alone, but if they had gotten the block on the pass which they had all night it would have went unnoticed.

They did seem to run out of gas a little in the third which is to be expected with a young team and some of that was due to the penalties that were called on them. They have a couple of tough tests at Geneseo and Brockport coming up so we will really start to get an idea of what these guys are made of in the coming weeks.
