Never Forget!
Official "My Team Got Screwed!" thread of the 2024 Men's Ice Hockey D-I Tournament

Before starting your own thread, please view this PSA

Allow this thread to serve as your place to complain about the PWR, the committee, the smoke-filled room or your misinformed views about why undeserving teams like Michigan Tech and RIT stole your team's spot. This is also a good place to complain about your coach, the referees, the RPI formula, KRACH and the entire process. Special welcome to all the new North Dakota fans. No, we can't do anything to alleviate the insane pricing on StubHub. Sorry.

This version of the thread even promises entertaining topics such as Joe Thornton being traded, Giada's Melons, Merrimack being kicked out of Hockey Rast, #26 Union, the playoff chances of St, Clooud, a symposium on the many hackings of Freddy Meyer and the always-popular college hockey video game. And what about airline food!?

We have the Waambulance standing by and extra tissues handy.

We also have several types of cheese to go along with whatever whine you prefer. We promise you'll get your just desevrings!

I'm just going to say it this way.

There is something inherently disingenuous about only using non-conference games to determine the tournament field...and then bracketing conference rivals in the field.

What exactly is involved in "hosting" a regional, and why does that team (who squeaked into the tournament and are going to be unceremoniously dismissed after their first game anyway) claim a spot in the nearby regional when another team from the same small New England state who had a much better season has to travel two-thirds of the way across the country?

Once again the NCAA shows its anti-WCHA bias and refuses to invite even a single team from the greatest conference to ever grace the sports world.

Maybe the Ohio State women's team can be added to the field. A play-in game with UMass. That's a worthy opponent for the Minutemen.

From the 2027-28 NCAA regional site selection informational packet:

Guarantee – A minimum financial guarantee of $100,000 is required to host the Men’s Ice Hockey Regionals. After gross receipts are determined, the NCAA will receive the established guarantee, followed by the host/LOC receiving the budgeted expenses or actual expenses, whichever is less. Once both of those obligations have been met, if there are any remaining funds, the NCAA and the host/LOC will split those 75% for the NCAA and 25% for the host/LOC

So like, literally "a bag of money" is required to be declared a host and get the perks that follow.

Also bonus points for the use of Hockey Rast. Haven't seen that meme and associated team spellings and meme-rumors in a good while.

Let the SENANICAN's begin!

If the Waambulance and tissues aren't enough, there's always a hammerpunch available

Huh? Conference and OOC games are weighted exactly the same. There are nuances that place importance on performing well OOC, but the PWR has no comparison for OOC record and almost perfectly matches RPI rank...which is straight math applied to all games whether in or out of conference.

I'm not gonna attempt to post a Twitter link but you can find Kris Mayotte's thoughts on the PWR. Obviously comes off as sour grapes but I think he has a problem with team X getting into the tournament over them. He rambled on a bit and I lost interest. I am assuming he has a problem with a formula that puts Western in ahead of them.

If there was no such rule about host teams needing to stay in that regional, what would the regionals look like?
