Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Honestly, I think you're in the minority on the MN Cup. Most people that I've talked to are excited about it. Maybe I haven't talked to enough people, but that's been the impression that I've gotten.

I also agree that as the on-ice product goes up, prices will go up. It's a chicken or the egg argument. No one knows the correct answer.

I see your point, and I hope we can become a perennial contender in the nWCHA, and if that means a price increase, good for us. But the Mavs are already making one trip to the Twin Cities this year, and I was trying to decide whether to get MN Cup or Mariucci tickets, but I guess the school has decided for me. The MN Cup likely means a hotel in the Cities for the weekend in addition to the premium tickets. It's just not exactly how I wanted to spend my money.

That said, I am looking forward to the Cup, and I hope we get St. Cloud on Saturday night, whether that means win or lose, because we don't get them otherwise. But as far as in future years, I'd rather not get hit for "home" games that are not in Mankato

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Yeah, the guy in the athletics office trotted out that line. If the other team doesn't matter, why do they have "premium" pricing for some games and not others? By the way, neither Duluth nor St. Cloud is including the Minnesota Cup games as required in their season ticket packages, just making them available. Why only Mankato?

MavsFan. While I can see your point, I am OK with this. Personally, I have planned all along to go to the MN Cup. This saves me the hassel of buying the tickets separately.

Also, our tickets are quite a bit cheaper than either St Cloud or UMD. St Cloud's season ticket package (which does not include the MN Cup) is $400.00. UMD's season ticket package (which does not include the MN Cup) is $383.25. Maybe, we might be getting a bargain.

Also, it appears that the price of a ticket for the MN Cup is $80.00. That is what St Cloud and UMD are charging and it is what MSU is charging if you want additional cup tickets.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

If you don't want your $32 MN Cup tickets, sell them. If you get $50 a piece for them, Now you've paid for nearly a third of your season ticket total.

Otherwise, who cares? It's 32 lousy freakin dollars. You're gonna cancel your tickets over 32 bucks? Lame.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

I am reluctant to tell anyone how to spend their money. It is, however, obvious to me that WCHA teams are going to have to make up for decreased media revenues with some price increases on tickets, and I'm sure that the Minnesota Cup has been selected due to perceived demand. I'm afraid that this is our new normal. I'm sure that we'd love to raise ticket prices, but we've been so bad for the last half-decade that no one would come if we did.

Okay, apparently I'm the only one who's not okay with being forced to buy tickets to games a 180 mile round trip away as part of a home season-ticket package. I'll discuss it no further.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

How much are season tickets at MSU-M? I've always thought UMD's prices were very fair (and cheap compared to UMTC)

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

$320 per seat and if you want to be part of Blue Line Club it's a $375 donation.

BSU actually lowered their season ticket prices to $275 this year, which IIRC on the date span, is the lowest it has been in 10 years. That is for 19 home games (and maybe an exhibition), including two with Minnesota and one with North Dakota, but then again, the Beavers are not part of the Minnesota Cup this year. If you want better seats, that will require a donation to Beaver Pride, but $275 gets you in the door of the Sanford Center.

I really becomes a question of which way to approach the situation. Do you raise ticket prices to try and offset the money lost from the "marquee" matchups of the old WCHA, or do you lower ticket prices to try and get more people in the door with guaranteed revenue? I guess we will see, but in BSU's defense, season tickets have been on the decline since moving into the Sanford Center, but then again, people were spoiled by the success in the CHA, and the lack of success in the WCHA drove the casual season ticket holders away.

Anyone know who the captains are yet? My sources all say nothing decided yet.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

I like the big sheet as well rather than packing it in, but if that's what the plan is and Hastings is for it, I'm good with it. The story that I saw sounded like they were going to add a couple of rows, but I don't know for sure.

I love move to the small ice sheet, all of the playoff games other than the first round of the WCHA are on small sheets. Get our team used to playing on the small sheet.

Since you guys are talking season ticket prices, providence college has a family season ticket (4 tickets) for 200 total

Ummm, mine's more than that. My ticket is $320. My daughter's ticket is $17,000/year, although admittedly, there are some "secondary benefits" she gets with that, like an education.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

We are #10 in the CHN Preseason Top 10. Pretty high regards for the Mavericks.

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Why would I want to drive 180 miles round trip, plus pay for parking, for a non-conference game against Duluth? Then do it again the next day against either St. Cloud or the Gophers. .

Oh I don't know, maybe to support your team? Maybe you need to change your user name to HomeMavsFan. I'll be flying up from Texas for the North Star Cup and am excited for it!

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

I'll be putting together my season preview and starting the new thread this week.

Two weeks from now they'll be playing!

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Any of you guys traveling to Providence to the opener?

Yes, you are clearly a better fan than I am because you're excited about the Gophers' tournament (yes, it's the Gophers' tournament; they're the only ones who don't "rotate out" of the tournament, and they're listed as the host) and I resent being REQUIRED to buy tickets for it as part of a HOME season ticket package. Congratulations.

I had more issue with you complaining about a 180 mile round trip. I guess I forget how driving is in a little town like Mankato when it only takes 5-10 minutes to get anywhere. And not saying I'm a better fan than you, but I am a huge hockey and Mavs fan. If I were still in MN I would make it to every game that I possibly could. I still watch as many streaming games as I can down here of them. Also, despite being in Texas I've made it to every Final Five since 2001 and was at the Mavs playoff games vs Omaha last year. So a 180 mile round trip seems pretty easy!

In other random former Mavericks news, I got to see Travis Morin in a Dallas Stars uni this past Friday. He's been in their training camp and played in a pre-season game vs. the Panthers in San Antonio, TX. Played a few shifts and got an assist, so was pretty cool to see. Have watched him play quite a bit for the Texas Stars AHL team. As of right now he's still on the Dallas Stars roster and hasn't been assigned back to the AHL Stars. Wonder if he'll finally get to play more in the NHL?
