Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Re: Official 2013 Minnesota State University, Mankato Offseason Thread

Yeah, and from all reports I have heard, Toledo sucks.

Not sure where I'd make the road trip to, really.

nah. you've been listening to dimwits. Toledo is underrated.
the Walleye have a beautiful new arena. the Hens play in one of the best AAA parks in the country.
the zoo is great, the art museum is top notch, and the symphony is fine.

but I get ya. I'm not planning on any road trips to West Hooterville, Minnesota myself either. :D

It's hard to get a room at a motel in West Hooterville. My understanding is they are booked solid through 2018.

Team Award Winners:

MVP: Eriah Hayes

Unsung Hero: Josh Nelson

Most Improved Player: Taylor Herndon

Hardest Worker: Tyler Elbrecht

Three Star Award: Matt Leitner

Can't complain with any of the choices anywhere. Completely agree that Herndon improved each and every week he played.

Also, Eriah Hayes was called up by San Jose. Congrats to him, hopefully he gets to play a few minutes.

I didn't realize until just recently that they are going to shrink the rink down to NHL size along with updating the ice making equipment. What say you, Maverick fans? Good, bad or indifferent?

Mike Hastings hinted on a radio interview with Sully last season that this was going to happen. Since he was the one who made that statement, I am assuming that he wanted the smaller rink when he came here. Therefore, I am looking at that as good.

I think it's a good thing. It's going to end up being the future of every new rink around, etc. Scouts like seeing guys play in the NHL sheet too, and while it may seem trivial, we need every recruiting advantage we can get.

Personally, I like the big ice. Players are getting bigger and bigger, and the ice gets too clogged. The extra fifteen feet opens up the game. The Mavs have a lot of speed, and the neutral zone will get more jammed up, negating some of that speed. But what is, is. That's room for two more rows of seats on each side of the ice; will they lower the surface to allow those seats to go in, or will the first row be almost eight feet from the boards?

I also like big ice, but nowadays it just makes too much sense to go 85'. Olympic ice is close to dead. There have even been talks of Mariucci doing it for a few years.

I like the big sheet as well rather than packing it in, but if that's what the plan is and Hastings is for it, I'm good with it. The story that I saw sounded like they were going to add a couple of rows, but I don't know for sure.

I liked the big ice because of the game it produces, but also because our opponents perceived it as a disadvantage for them, whether it was or not. Coach Pearson mentioned it 2 or 3 times in his post-game comments after this year's series. If it had them thinking about it, all the better. But, I trust Coach Hastings, so I'll accept the change and shut up about it.

Huntsville in mid-December? After this winter (still not over) I only travel south.

Come on down! It'll probably be low 50s F or so that time of year. Our little "snow" events start in January.

GFM <— glad to have the Mavs here on a quite-regular basis.

Beware of making any plans based on the schedule. From what I have heard we arent traveling to Vermont, which is too bad really as it was actually not a bad ticket ($350) to fly to Burlington. Right now its looking like Bowling Green for the first trip of the New WCHA. Anyone planning any long distance travel?
