Official 2013-2014 Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks Season Thread

If I understand the tiebreaker rules correctly, two wins next weekend would also guarantee the #1 seed for the WCHA tournament. If the tied teams haven't played four games against each other, the next tiebreaker is conference wins, so the Mavs would have that.

You're correct. So basically, win two more games, and you get your first conference title, as well as the 1 seed or the playoffs.

Yes, presuming that the Bulldogs also get just two points. Having that extra win really is the hammer.

You misread my post. I said "two wins next weekend..." i.e., four points, guarantees the #1 seed.

How will attendance be this weekend? It is the start of spring break on Friday..

I won't hazard a guess, because I've been wrong about attendance a lot this year. I'll be there as always, and my grandson will be playing in the Little Chippers game between the first and second periods, so I'm looking forward to that.

I generally do the State Tournament in St. Paul, but if we have a chance at the MacNaughton on Saturday night, I'm not missing that.

That's a great question. I would guess non-students show up pretty well, but students are going to be thin, very very thin.

I'd count on little to no student support this weekend. Attendance may also take a dip thanks to the State Tourney. Had Mankato West beaten New Prague, attendance may have seen a considerable drop.

Chart.

A sweep this weekend likely puts MSU in the 12-15 range, depending on how much help they get, which is still in position for an at-large bid. Win the series in three and they have to win the Final Five. Lose the series and obviously the season is over.

Also interesting that giving MSU two wins this weekend while changing nothing else moves MSU to 13th in the PWR. If they had lost last Saturday's game, those two wins(again, with no other results added), they only move up to 17th.

As far as other rooting interests go, it would really help MSU if Minnesota swept Michigan, and New Hampshire, St. Lawrence, and Clarkson all won their playoff series this weekend before bowing out gracefully next weekend.

Back to Back Final Five trips!! Pretty awesome feat for this program, and hopefully they can just keep on winning!

With that said, they've gotta clean things up for next weekend. Too many penalties this weekend, and they weren't consistently good in the transition game. Two wins, nonetheless!

Too many penalties? They had eight penalty minutes all weekend. They have averaged just over 16 penalty minutes PER GAME this season.

Penalties weren't the problem. Killing the few they took was the problem. I'm not too worried about that. They have one of the top penalty kills in the country.

Northern Michigan played well this weekend. They have some talent and their goaltender was very good. Gotta beat BGSU to keep at-large bid hopes alive!

Just win the next 2 games and we are in. Can't be looking for help from others.

On to the championship game. Ferris and Anchorage are going to overtime. If they'd like to go double overtime so the survivor has dead legs tomorrow night, that would be fine with me.

Did anyone ever think they'd see us hoist the Broodmoar?! Congrats to this team. They're on an absolute roll right now; I'm highly anticipating next weekend, and I'm hoping this can become one of those post season runs everyone can get behind!

Beautiful! And the way they did, with the goal scorers being who they were, shows the depth of this team as well as how much those guys have bought into their roles! Congrats, indeed!

How crazy is it that we were talking about how good that fourth line has been lately and boom. Huntebrinker and Knowles with goals tonight. Beautiful.

I'd be willing to say this team is as dangerous as any in the tournament. If Huggins is as good as he was this weekend, they're a darkhorse.

I meant to compliment you on the Huntebrinker prediction, but I couldn't remember what thread that was. Any predictions for next weekend?
