Official 2012 NCAA hockey regionals SYNDICATED games info thread..

Re: Official 2012 NCAA hockey regionals SYNDICATED games info thread..

Do not add the Ferris TV listing. the guy that reported it from another site, where i doing a NCAA Tourney Commentators thread did not have a link to any info and he just was reporting what he got off of the Ferris St.'s athletics website. Went to that website and found nothing at all on that site. Not sure where the guy was seeing the info.

Thanks for the updates guys. 1st post updated

Hockeymam2000, there is always a nesn+ .....

True, but that's only if it's planned in advance. If they don't go to the trouble -- and I'm guessing they won't because it's not a Bruins/Red Sox conflict -- then it's not as if they can just put it there without having alerted all the carriers. But that's worst case scenario.

I'd just be shocked if they opened up a NESN+ just for a BU NCAA game. Years back they didn't bother and had to pre-empt the end of one of the games they were carrying (can't recall which one, but it definitely happened). College hockey here isn't nearly as important to the mass audience as it is in WCHA land (sad but true!), which is why I have DirecTV :)

Years ago, nesn+ didnt exist

Well, yes and no. They did, even before they branded it "NESN+", send out alternate games to local cable carriers in New England (in the odd conflict between Bruins and Red Sox and/or the HE finals). It was up to the carrier if they wanted to pick up the other feed NESN would provide and put it on another channel. "NESN+" is only their branding of simultaneous broadcasts when there's a conflict, and it's rarely used. It's not a full-time, dedicated channel...Directv might have it listed as "629" but there's hardly ever any programming on it. They only turn it on when the Red Sox and Bruins games conflict, usually in April, and the odd conflict with the Hockey East finals.

If you look at NESN's schedule, the BU-MN game is airing on NESN Saturday. They're not using "NESN+" for it, which is what I thought, so if it does go multiple OT's, the plug will undoubtedly be pulled due to Bruins commitments. There won't be an overflow available.

Again, worst case scenario there...and unlikely we'll have a marathon...but just sayin' it COULD happen.

Fox college sports will NOT do these games
Not surprising. Is this because of the way FCS accesses local broadcasts from Fox regional stations and there is no way ESPN will let Fox join the nation wide party? Thanks.

I just emailed NESN to ask them about that very scenario...I'll let everyone know when they reply.

I think that was BU-SLU 4 OT game. I was at the game but recall those who didn't complaining of that. I also think they rejoined the game as it was still in progress. :D

Re: Official 2012 NCAA hockey regionals SYNDICATED games info thread..

Back then, all Regional games were syndicated. A much bigger chore than now to keep track of it all

Ugh...don't remind me!! DiPietro made 78 saves but everyone was so exhausted they could hardly skate. We were going to stay for the second game (I believe it was Michigan / Colgate)...we sat through the warmups, watched about five minutes and then drove two hours back (during which time we almost fell asleep)...got home around 2:00 in the morning and went to work the next day.

It was Michigan-Maine. And boy, were they not happy with us. Michigan people missing flights, Maine people driving home in time for sunrise...

I was there. I was rooting for BU -- as much as a Maine fan can -- until OT3. Then I just cheered whenever anyone got a scoring chance.

And I missed the beginning of the Academy Awards!!!!

I also remember talking to some Michigan people who didn't miss their flights -- they simply left and never saw the game! I remember being so frustrated at one point I yelled out "someone PLEASE score" which a lot of people got a kick out of. The game started at Noon, ended at 6:05, and the Michigan-Maine game which was supposed to start at 3:30 ended up starting at 7 (if my memory is on). I still have a tape of the end of it.

It's funny, someone in another thread was recently discussing "classic" games and brought this game up. I certainly respect its historic nature, but for me, it wasn't a "classic" game to watch -- more like painful seeing as the teams were so tired, the scoring chances so scant, that the longer it went on, the more difficult it was to sit through. Something I'll never forget, but I'll take some of the other OT thrillers in NCAA games I've been fortunate to attend well ahead of it (in terms of the nature of the game itself).

That's a great point, because many people assume that because it went 4OT it must have been a "great" game. It wasn't..."painful" is exactly the right word. It got to the point where we thought nobody would ever score and we were so drained that we were almost comatose...

Re: Official 2012 NCAA hockey regionals SYNDICATED games info thread..

Ok, back on topic...... Is the first post accurate and complete? Any more stations airing these 4 games?

Re: Official 2012 NCAA hockey regionals SYNDICATED games info thread..

Tried to set up the DVR to record the MN/BU game last night and "not available in your area" came up. I've only ever seen this for pro sports. Anyone know if this will only be available in the home markets?

What are you talking about? Where are you, who is your provider, what channel are you trying to record it on?
