Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I despise that the Opener is on VS. But I can live with it.

Been wearing Bruins TShirts all week. I am SO ready for the season. Copied from my post in the other thread:

Ference will wear the 2nd A during Home Games, Kelly wearing it for Away Games for the Bruins. Both good choices.

Predictions for the season....

Boston's Record will be 48-23-11, for 107 points. They will finish 2nd in the Conference.

Tyler Seguin will have a monster year, scoring 28 goals.

Krejci finishes the year with 25 goals and 58 assists for a total of 83 points.

Rask plays much more than last year, playing 34 games. This isn't because Thomas does poorly, but just because they are playing both goalies more.

Boston beats Buffalo in 6, New York in 7, and Pittsburgh in 7 to advance to the Stanley Cup Final, but loses to the Sharks in 7 games.

Buffalo over Vancouver in 6.

Washington isn't playing for anything until they fire Boudreau.

I really thought of picking Buffalo. They're gonna make a good run..and could possibly win it..I just think they're a year away.

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I hate myself for what I'm about to say, but Crosby returns by Christmas, and leads the Pens over Sharks. Burns is not quite SJ's missing piece, but they are closer than ever.

Caps lose in the second round. Boudreau can't coach playoff hockey, and I don't think he has been able to motiviate Washington's star players when it counts.

Wings win the Central, but lose in the second round or conference finals, depending on their second round opponent. Howard will finish the regular season with something like 35-40 wins, a 2.60 GAA and .910 SV%, and the Detroit sports media will spend the entire month of March running opinion pieces questioning whether or not Howard can be a playoff goalie.

EDIT: Though it would be awesome to watch Vancouver pull off consecutive chokes. I like bronconick's thinking. :D

And Howard will get blamed for Detroit losing in the playoffs.

If Wingels turns out to be the next surprise rookie for SJ, I like their chances, but with Pavelski, Demers and Couture recently, they've got to be running out of luck on that front. A 10-12 g, 20 assist speedy forward for the 3rd line would add just enough pop with 3 pairings with puck moving D to match their offense last year with better D this year.

How big of a year do you see Couture having? I think the kid is poised to explode this year.

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

Part of my prediction was that Bodreau gets canned a quarter of the way through.

Also, I want to punch Barnaby for picking the Flyers.

Depends on how well Havlat meshes with Clowe/Couture. The only thing I'm sure of is that I don't expect a sophomore slump because he was already facing the same level of competition he'll face this year. He went 32g/24a last year. Possibly around 35 goals this year, 30 assists. If Havlat opens things up more than Heatley did, 40 goals from him isn't out of the question. Clowe's a half-wall kind of guy, so 25/35.
