Am I the only one who one month ago never would have imagined us having this conversation?

There's another Hockey East team that also feels that way... just build up your RPI with some wins so it's high when we play you, alright? We'll work on doing the same, then to the victor go the spoils... let's just not tie twice again. ;)

Great game tonight. Vrolyk and MacLeod almost got hat tricks, lots of great opportunities, other than that last goal against us, all around good game. UMass got really sloppy at the end, you could see them fall apart.

NU was fantastic! Very small crowd and no band; very strange and quiet for a key game. BEAT BC!

I went to our Valentine's weekend game last year, it was pretty dead then too, except this time we won

Good win tonight. I thought discipline broke down a bit. Got to keep that in check, especially against our upcoming opponent. Great gm defensively!

I thought the refs let the gm out of hand a bit.. they clearly were in 'make up call' mode couple times, trying to please Coach Cronin.. then Coach Cahoon. 'Toot' almost got thrown out of the gm.. he's lucky to get just a bench minor, he was going ballistic but not sure what more his team could have done tonight.. they had no answer for NU.

My other concern.. we did not score on a 5x3 again. Grant it we were ahead by a couple.. but you have to make those.. not only that, toward the end of one of the UMass penalties, we gave up a weak (shorthanded, i believe), goal. Again, perhaps we can get away tonight because we were up so much.. not going to fly against UNH, BC etc.

Rawlings, again superb. Perhaps better rebound control, but its his 3rd gm in 6 days. What more can i say.... stay the course!!! :) Go Huskies

I was wondering if maybe some students went home for the long weekend (President's Day), rather than anything to do with Valentine's Day.

This team is really coming together. They played very well tonight, had good intensity from the get go, and were working hard.

What happened to our Band? In the past on long weekends a few members would show up. Greg Cronin can not be happy would the lack of school spirit, not to mention his lack of contract after this year.
Getting back to the game; Maley and Hewkin played their best game of the year. UMass forward James Marcou was never a factor. NU's Robbie Vrolyk played a great game. In my opinion Jake Newton is the best frosh D man in HE; and perhaps he is the best D man in the league! He will be NU's next All American. It was not Rawlings best game; had a lot of problems finding the puck when it was around the net. Drew Daniels had a fine game; his improvement is fun to watch; He is playing much more physical and his skating ability has improved; he was flying last night. All 4 lines played very well and if they can produce like that next week then another sweep is possible.

I thought Cronin got a contract extension

And apparently the band every year goes on a trip, and they planned to leave Saturday, because when they originally made the schedule we hosted UMass on Friday, so when they switched the two games around the band was no longer able to play at our home game

Where did they go? The Winter Olympic Games? The bu Lowell game?
The game dates have not been changed. I received a copy of the schedule last fall at a "Friends of NU Hockey" meeting, and it has the UMass game on Saturday Feb. 13th at Matthews!

Even Better: Philadelphia

According to them they made the plans months ago and then the games got switched. Probably some stupid mistake was made

Agreed. Kind of disappointed to see the discipline break down a bit towards the end of the game; Umass should not have scored their last two goals. I don't care if they're up by 10, they still should be back-checking after an offensive rush. Rawlings was great. It looked like the entire team was having fun, which IMO is key to winning games.

Thank god the team did not miss the band that much. Fans (myself included), def missed the band in the crowd though. Would've been nice to hear the Alma Mater when Fernie's Captains were introduced..

On another note, besides his excellent play(Jake Newton on D)... his one timer yesterday was a thing of beauty.. (the set up was awesome as well) :)

I can't say for sure that it's actually been done but as of the week before the beanpot, Roby said he expected Cronin to have an extension done within about a week (and Coen's was done). If Cro doesn't have a contract, it'll be by his choosing. The school wants him back.

As far as school spirit goes, I expect that it'll turn back up now that the team is winning again and the last bunch of games are against big opponents. BU especially will bring a huge crowd, and BC will also have a pretty good showing. UNH might but I can't say for sure.

Great to see them playing so well again. Where has this team been all year? A few of the goals were results of players actually being there for tip-ins which never seemed to happen before, and there were plenty of other great chances that they didn't convert on.

However, we shouldn't look past the couple times that UMass gave up a couple huge chances - two that I can really remember. One was in the first period when Rawlings gave up a rebound just to his left and the UMass skater missed the shot...I think he sent it right into the pad, but if he'd lifted it he would have had a goal for sure. Another one in the third that the puck was just sitting to the right of the net for a few seconds and Rawlings was on the other side. Fortunately an NU player got there first. Otherwise even I could have scored.

Honestly, i'd rather have a team that plays well second half (late), in the season than to peak early, then fizzle out. Of course we'd like to have a winner throughout the season.. but despite losing a good senior class & Brad Thiessen, i think the team has come together nicely at the right time. Not to mention (again), losing Quailer!

Anyway, hope they continue to gel & have a great time rest of the way.

The good news: they're playing with confidence. EV,special teams, goaltending. The bad news: they're facing the toughest part of the schedule. 2 each with BC,UNH, and BU. We'll see how good they really are. As a coach, I can't think of a better way to finish the reg season: playing your best hockey against the best opponents. then playoffs.
