Probably not, normally kids put up points like that before they are 18 end up getting an early pay day.

Actually I'm completely wrong, I found this clip of the two brothers and apparently "they share the goal of playing NCAA hockey". They talk about their chemistry together so we will see what happens.

How about Adam Reid commiting to NU! As far as I know this is the first USNDT player to commit to NU. I think this is huge for the program.

..that was awesome to hear! Hopefully it pans out for us. Regardless, it'll spread the word & bodes well for the future.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I think Cronin has shown that he is a very very good recruiter. He had to build up NU's brand to be able to sell it to these more traditional prospects. He has done that through non-traditional avenues like the BCHL. The last few years, we have all gotten really excited about Quailer, Veermy, Justin Daniels, but now we have 4 or 5 guys on that level that are comming in next year, then another couple the year after that. We have a very young team right now and I think next year will be more like 08-09 than 09-10

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Word around is that BU was very high on Reid and wantded him for next year, but Reid wanted another year before starting college and BU had no scholarships left for 2011. So NU jumped in and got him. I think Cronin has done a incridible job, lets not forget how bad things were here when he got here. That first year was all Crowder's players. Thank god he is long gone.

IIRC Willie Levesque played for the team or a predecessor.

If we can get Mark MacMillan, we can claim to have three sets of brothers. It'll make the broadcasters a little crazy.

Let's hope lil bro' doesn't get drafted too too high in June.;)

You are correct.

He played for the national junior team and the under 18 team.

Mark Macmillan (Mitch's brother) has his rights claimed by a WHL franchise, though that doesn't mean he won't go the college route, it seems a bit more unlikely.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

He sat in the stands during the 3rd period against Merrimack. He didn't look seriously injured. Perhaps that's why he failed to pick up his usual 3rd period penalty minutes.

Silva took a shot to the head in the second at Merrimack. That's probably why he sat out the third (and the Harvard game).

Steve was a very healthy scratch (physically) for the Harvard game. It's Greg Cronin's way or the highway.

I think it matters where they're picked in the draft more than they've been picked. I know a kid drafted by a major junior team who could play there now at 17-18 years old but he's more interested in college so he continues to play prep hockey. Most of the major junior teams know these things ahead of time and use the later rounds for flyers on kids they may or may not get.

You can believe that if you want. Or you can look at the fact that a) he sat out the 3rd against Merrimack, 2) Cronin has a history of resting players in the Beanpot Consolation Game anyway (see 2008 against bu, with Linard, Maguire and Wiwchar dressing) and d) he did nothing in the Merrimack game to warrant a benching...if anything he deserved it earlier in the season, yet remained in the lineup.

Great shutout 'W' for Rawlings & NU. Team played disciplined.. scored on the PP, almost scored SHG ( i know penalty just expired as Vrolyk scored on that beauty of a 2 on 1..).

Let's go for another tomorrow. Well played team! Enjoy the Olympics everyone :)

We are now 20th in the Pairwise. A win tomorrow would probably put us around 18 or so. Tough road ahead but our next 7 games are against TUC. If we play well we still have a real chance to make the tournament.

Right in the thick of the race for home ice in Hockey East, too.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

The remaining gms.. all of them (including tonight's), are tough gms no doubt. I will not even begin to contemplate home ice yet. One gm at a time, but certainly excited to be in the thick of things.

I will say this.. when we skate 5 on 5 (like we did most of the gm last night).. we serve ourselves well. When we skate a man down, i do worry.

Fact is, if we can skate disciplined.. perhaps capitalize on opponent mistakes, be it via PP or even strength... we have a shot with anybody.

Yesterday we gave up just 3 powerplays i think. That is pretty good. Let's skate like that. Do the same or better tonight. I remember in the Beanpot gm.. we gave up our first goal on a PP. Several times this season we've kinda let other teams jump on top by taking weak penalties versus just skating 5x5, playing the gm. UMass will be fired up tonight.. skate 5x5 with 'em!

Huskies, do not defeat yourselves.. play with discipline, continue the strong defense (look what you did yesterday.. similar, Lowell did yesterday v/s BC).. let the result take care of itself.

Sustain the effort! Go team :)

It will be a tough road to move up much more in the PWR. NU's record against TUCs is really bad right now, so they lose that comparison point with most other TUCs. The good news is that they play TUCs from here on out, so they can remedy that. Rawlings has picked the right time of the year to begin playing great, and the team seems to be finally playing with more discipline. This will be an interesting few weeks.

Here's hoping for a strong student showing tonight! This is an important game for comparison points against UMass, not to mention the positioning in HEA.

Am I the only one who one month ago never would have imagined us having this conversation?
