Gotcha.. they scored on Donovan's penalty, right? His size usually works against him. Overall this yr, he's been quite a disciplined skater.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

A few things I'd like to bring up...

What's the Mike Powers story? He has yet to play, though they seemed to make a big deal about how he was in the lineup now. Also, is he the son of Professor Mike Powers? (Heard some noise about his lack of scholarship need due to a parent on the faculty)

How many people are planning on heading to 'Mack? We need a huge presence there... they're tough at home and we can NOT afford a loss against the team with whom we're battling for 8th place.

And I hope Cronin is getting them to practice finishing the **** pucks. I lost count at the number of breakaways we had that resulted in absolutely nothing.

Anyways, great game. Painful at the end, of course, but we put up a good fight against a team that always manages to find their stride in the Beanpot.

I also agree with Rossi on several points. One 25-win season doesn't do **** for us if we can't put together multiple years of relevance. It's fun sometimes to play the underdog in this conference because everybody can get behind that, but sustained winning is the goal. Eventually as fans we get tired of hearing that our team is "hard to play against" while we watch the losses pile up.

I'll be at Lawler on Friday night. It will be a very, very tough place to pull two points out. Merrimack has lost once all year there, 5-4 to UNH.

Thnks Craig. How's the new arena coming along down in South Bend?

They're still doing the design right now. They'll break ground this spring.

Great.. would love to see some pics if you get a chance to post Spring/ Summer, as/when you can. I think from what i've read in the past.. they want to incorporate the old with the new.. should turn out nicely for ND.

As for NU.. we need least a point Friday.

Rawlings has to shake off Monday night & continue playing like he has. He looked great! The rest of the team has to do a better job killing off opponent PP. We can't stare at pucks as if we're watching a passing clinic.

As for our own man advantage.. we're cycling well.. just shoot on net!

It's NU's most important game of the year. A loss and NU will be watching the play offs with Providence.
We play bu at least 2 more times; 5 games with them are possible, so get even don't get mad! The NU fans last night were fantastic; Coaches are fair game, but criticism of our players bothers me. The team wins as a team and they lose as a team.
Who was wearing Mike McLaughlin's uniform last night? Did Cronin borrow a forward from the Islander's organization? Number 18 was faster than the bu small forwards and more physical than their big forwards.

100% agree, I tried to tell people that the game friday is more important than the game monday (obviously this was before 8 pm last night) but I was mostly not taken seriously. The way I see the beanpot is that once you boil off all the "fat" off of it, yes there is a lot with all of the history and what not, but you get down to it and it is an exhibition game that affects your OOC record. An at large bid is not walking through that door, so I took it as an opportunity to see what our team can do in the spot light of big media coverage and big time implications. They played well, I just hope they didn't feel like that was their "super bowl".

On another note.. i noticed Cornell cracking the top 5 this week.. & i know they lost a few guys, but even though last season they came in ranked lower than NU in the NCAA.. they were a solid team.

This yr, they're continuing playing strong hockey. Good for them. I'm just saying.. we had a pretty strong team play against us, that 1st rd last season.

Can't take anyone for granted. Show up, play 60 minutes. That goes for the 'Mack gm as well this Friday.

Congrats to the Lady Huskies for their W over BU in the Beanpot. Gm went to OT, then a shootout. NU led 4-1 before the Terriers mounted a comeback (nice comeback by them in the 3rd..). NU was missing few players out to the Winter Olympics.. (namely our primary goaltender), well... an exciting finish.

They had about 1400 in attendance at the Bright Ctr, Harvard.. (that's almost 50% cap.. decent crowd), compared to most home gms.

here's the video of the GWG..

So I was talking to a few of my fellow CC fans. We need some NU Doghouse members to fly out to Colorado Springs one of these days and teach the CC students how to cheer. Come on, it's a great compromise. We get some great student hockey fans at CC and you guys get a winning team who may be in the tourney this year (#10 PWR as of right now). So it's a win/win!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I think NU is playing pretty good hockey and will give Merrimack everything it can handle on Friday. I was impressed by their effort on Monday and thought they were the better team everywhere except the scoreboard (unfortunately).

The Lawler is a great place to see a game and I don't think anyone who goes will be disappointed. Merrimack has been playing pretty good lately but hasn't figured out how to win (away from home) - they will definitely bring their A game too. If you go you need to check Da Costa (#24) - the kid has some talent.

I predict a barn burner 4-3 Warrior win... Go Warriors...

PS - I thought the NU fans at the Beanpot were great...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Good post jackieg, i agree.. you have to give the edge to Merrimack at home, no question. The last time we played you guys.. (both gms), our 2nd goale Bryan Mountain played.. & we split the weekend.

I thought he played well & i wonder if he (since he already knows a bit of your team) or our #1 Rawlings, gets the start.

Rawlings has not faced you.. (allthough he did watch from the stands @ Matthews, while he recovered from his concussion over the Dec holiday period).

If Rawlings gets the start & plays like he did Monday.. we have a chance. If Mountain gets the start.. our offense better put up more than 3 goals.. because i know the 'Mack will.

Last time we played the mack I thought our D did a good job of disrupting their offensive transition game and I thought we did a really good job of disrupting their scheming in their offensive zone. Hopefully that continues, I think you have to go with Rawlings here, what does it say to your team if you go with Mountain? Rawlings has played well enough these past 2 games to warrant a start, let's see what he can do, the mack has a good offense, let's see how he does against Barton and DaCosta. Hoping for a point here, the mack doesnt lose at home often, this year anyway.

They're 9-1 at home..

0-12.. (/0-13)on the road... (counting 1 neutral site gm).

C'mon NU fans.. come down in bunches & take that home advantage away. Might be the kryptonite that's needed :)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

The Goaltending might be a mystery for Merrimack this weekend. Braithwaite has been playing spectacular and has kept the talented Cannata on the bench the past few weekends. I'm up in the air on who I think Dennehy will play. One side says you stay w/Braithwaite until he loses the job while the other says you need to get Cannata back in the fight, you don't want to have him get stagnant or down on himself... Braithwaite plays Friday while Cannata goes against UML on Saturday...

Go Warriors...

I'm pretty sure I saw Rawlings in uniform on the bench for the game at Lawler too, so he at least got to see both games.

I don't think there's any question that Rawlings gets this start. It's not like the beanpot is adding extra games in a week (since they only play one over the weekend), might as well keep him going for Monday night.

We pretty much did that last game too. Didn't work out, but it was fun.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Overall, this translates to 63-84-22 .432 which is fast approaching the mean of our historical mediocrity over 8 decades...of hockey.

Not to pick nits....but I'm going to pick nits:

His record is 68-84-20. That's .452, not .432.

Second, that includes a 3-24-7 with the program decimated by the end of the Crowder campaign. Since then his mark is 63-60-13. And while I don't mean to sound like a complete Kool-Aid drinker, I don't see any 3-24 seasons in our future under Cronin...come on, this is a "down" year given the expectations, the injuries, etc, and the team is still hovering around .500. This would have been considered a good year under Crowder or any number of other coaches...but the bar has been raised.

And while they've struggled with bu, the mark against bc has been very good (for NU). 6-8-2 against a school that has dominated NU...and 6-5-1 since that 3 win season.

If they tank down the stretch this year, and are under .500 next year, i may be joining you. But until I'm given a reason to, I'm not jumping off the bandwagon.
