Lawler is in a state of disrepair, from the warriorrinkrat.....

"If you've been to Lawler Arena lately, you've noticed that the current scoreboards have not been cooperating during recent home games. During wins over Boston College and Boston University, time clocks and penalty clocks were both failing."

Merrimack, 6-1 at home this season, has sold out its last two home games

Really? Will we have to make sure to get there early on Friday if we want to get in?

Yes. They are expecting a sell-out due to cheap tickets and a give-a-away.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

What.. we dropped Football !.. didn't see that coming.. :)

Jokes aside, glad they're honoring the 'full ride' part. Geez, lot happens when you go away few days.

Read the gm notes from Vermont, sounded like we did not play our best. Merrimack is playing great at home, it'll be a tough contest again for Rawlings. Its a small arena.. prob the smallest he has played in this season so hopefully that does not affect him adversely..

I saw Mack play BC there.. they outplay opponents often at home. Good thing is UNH just beat them at Lawler so it can be done.. but not sure we have enough to do it Friday.

Saturday i think we can bring it home. If Merrimack gets on the board first Friday.. i do not think it'll be a close gm. Its important we get that first goal this weekend. Go Huskies :)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I've seen both teams three times this year already. I'd guess a split for the weekend. Based on standings right now, either team would get a huge boost from a sweep heading into the last weekend before the break. The Mack offense is not the offense you saw the last few years where everything seemed to flow thru Rob Ricci. They will probably put up a minimum of three goals at home, if not four so you can see the difficulty in winning there. Each of their first three lines is a threat to score. Sort of like the Huskies last year except their D, supposedly their strong point coming into the season has been weak at times. Bobby Butler gave them fits on both the forecheck and on a rush or two last weekend.

As northeastern said, it could get ugly on Friday but I think Saturday could go 4-2 or 4-3 the other way. You'll love watching DaCosta, best freshmen I've seen all year although he doesn't skate as well as Vermeesch.

Sadly, at least for a little while, I'll be in Ft. Liquordale for the Pats-Fins matchup on Sunday and will miss both games.

DaCosta is an amazing player & play maker. He is from Paris, France (good find for Mack).. so we know hockey is not just for Canadiens.. :) Anyway, it'll be a solid feat if our D can keep him quiet this weekend.

(hockey unrelated), but NU related with our recent announcement..

Hofstra announces it too is dropping football. Prob more schools in our league will study the economics closer.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Anytime you score just 1 goal all gm & don't score on a 5x3..doesn't matter who the goalie is for us, its difficult to get the W.

Let's see if we can earn the split tomorrow.. with or without factoring in who is goal for us :). BTW, i just hope Rawlings was being rested tonight & there is not much else to it.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Word is he got a puck to the dome yesterday and was feeling woozy today. But you're right, even with Rawlings, we would have lost.

Wasn't expecting a W tonight, but I'm disappointed after tonight.

0-2-1 in the last 3 games. Forget the NCAAs, we won't even make it to the HE tourney at this rate...

HOT DOG HOUSE

It seemed like there was only one that actually figured it out, and she waved her towel back. We weren't chanting for her.

See, when playing Merrimack, you always expect a win. Even in the 3 win seasons. Always expect to beat MC.

I also agree about Rawlings and losing that game regardless of goalie. ANY goalie. Even great ones. 1 goal is just embarrassing. Especially with the icings, offsides, and especially with 2 5-on-3s.

I am trying hard to find something good about tonight. There is just absolutely nothing. We were slow. Didn't skate. Shots were all on the ice, nothing high. PPs absolutely were horrific. etc. etc.

The unique thing about MC is that the players walk past the fans before they get on the ice. It allows you a brief glimpse of their facial expressions as they enter and exit the ice. EVERY SINGLE one of them had the same expression all game. DEFEAT. Leaving the ice in the first and then entering in the second, every one of them knew the game was loss and showed it on their face. Not one of them was fired up to play this game. That is the single most important and scary thing I got out of tonight's game.

The fact is we lost 2 VERY important points tonight. I just hope this game isn't one we look at in March when 8 other teams play in the HE playoffs.
