Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Yeah, just my opinion, but neither of the Daniels did anything for me...

And it's a little early to start talking about this admittedly, but with Quailer missing the whole season...does he come back? Does he get this year of eligibility back? I'm not sure how that works, since he played in an exhibition game. We still consider him a raw talent, and somebody who would probably benefit greatly from returning next season, but does anybody have any really premature thoughts on this? This is the part where somebody chimes in to tell me to "just focus on this season" or "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
What did you not like about J Daniel's goal?
Steve Quailer is requesting a medical red shirt. Garrett Vermeersch will make up for Quailer's absence.

I'm sure he will be granted a redshirt if he requested it, as roma just mentioned. I don't know what the requirement is in terms of a max number of games played to still be eligible, but a few seasons ago, Scott Thauwald for CC had a knee injury after playing in a few games (I don't remember how many), and he was granted the red-shirt. So I'm sure the one exhibition game won't hurt his eligibility. Although I do not remember who said it, one NU poster had a good point last week when saying that Quailer may not be here for all four years anyway.

..actually #11 (that's Justin Daniels).. looked pretty good to me. He seemed to win almost every faceoff i saw him take.
I thought he played well, too, so you are not alone. There were a few times that I noticed #11 making some good plays out there.

Also, Greg Costa deserves a TON of credit for his efforts in the last minute or so last night. He had at least two blocked shots, including one that would have been a very tough save for Rawlings, and was all over the place.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Really enjoyed the game last night. Bentley showed more than I expected but so did NU. Although it's obvious Rawlings isn't as quick as Theissen he looked like he was comfortable. As others have said, Cronin is probably going to go with him almost exclusively. I was extremely impressed with Vrolyk and Vermeessch. They looked great although I thought there were times Vermeessch could have parted with the puck after creating space for himself. Cronin's comments after the game seemed to point at that issue. BU is going to hate those guys.

I thought the Daniels twins were decent although they seemed to get less time later in the game. As northeastern mentioned, JDan seemed to win every faceoff. I'd guess Cronin will use him in those late game situations often as the year progresses. Driscoll looked solid as always and it was nice to see Newton play well.

Loved the arenas new look but didn't know about the $500 Varsity Club fee

Sometime in the 3rd period I think it was, I saw 2 paper airplanes on the ice. People need to learn to cut the sh*t, I was really upset with that. Other than that and the fact they didn't play benny hills during the timeout, I had fun atmosphere wise. Freshmen won't be loud until they get comfortable being in a loud atmosphere, so I'll give them a pass for not being loud.

That has always been on the books, sounds like they are starting to enforce it, even though I can't donate that much I think it is a good thing to have, gives me something to shoot for...need to reward those who donate high levels somehow

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

In order to be granted a hardship waiver, a player must have played in no more than 30% of his team's games (computed as 0.3*[number of games] rounded up, and counting all playoffs as just one), none after the midway point of the season. Quailer will qualify very easily. In point of fact, where he only played in the exhibition, I'm not even sure he needs a hardship waiver. I think the exhibition doesn't count against a normal redshirt—I know that's true in basketball, ND played a guy in an exhibition last season and then redshirted him.

For real? I must have just tapped something on my iPhone or something and not realized it... Im not big on the feedback giving or whatever it is. But feel free to give me negative rep and well call it even.

To be honest I remeber that comment and laughed at it...

Lol choo choo... Guess I didn't think that one through. First name starts with a "c", last name starts with at "hoog", but we can stick with choo choo if you'd like

I wondered if it was something like that on both, honestly. Neither you, nor the person who did it to me seem like the types to do that for no reason...

So I think the general concensus is that Justin is going to be a better player, and is more talented that Drew. Having said that, I think I would be ok with Drew being an average two way player this season, putting up a couple goals here and there for NU. However, I actually think Justin Daniels played pretty well. He had good positioning, and was very good on faceoffs. Our team needs a strong center (we were horrible on faceoffs at CC w/o Daniels). I thought that his goal was a good shot, with a quick release. I think we really have to evaluate these guys with the understanding of what type of players they are. I feel like the Daniels brothers can be more of a power forward type of player. I was most impressed by Vrolyk and Vermeersch. Vrolyk split the D multiple times and almost had 2 or 3 breakaways, he has great speed and acceleration, but most importantly, he is a great forchecker and always in great position in the offensive end. I really think Vermeersch is going to be the next big offensive player for this team. When was the last time we had someone who looked to shoot? I love having him on the point on the PP although I think someone is going to have to remind Muench that he is playing the point with a forward and should play a little more conservatively in case of a short handed breakout.

To address the Quailer issue: He can obviously get a red shirt, but the bigger question is whether Montreal decides to pull him out of NU. My gut says that he stays, you really don't see many kids leaving early, and to be honest, Quailer has a lot of development left. I'll put it this way, If Bonino decided to stay at BU for this season (which he did), then I'd say there is a good chance that Quailer stays (If he likes school and the program).

Also, who negs fellow NU fans on our season thread? I mean I only neg people when they make personal attacks or make arguements that are irrational or supported by stats that are biased. Just my 2 cents . . .

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

let's start talking about hockey...

UNH had a nice rebound game against a very strong team in "Dah U ....of Ohio". Lowell is a very dangerous team, strong defensively and in net with enough offensive production to get by. This weekend will tell us a lot about our team, tough start to league play, at least we've played 2 games already on that 200x100 ice sheet. Foster hasn't had particularly good stats so far this season, so hopefully our forwards can get to him early and often. UNH has some studs on offense with Blake Kessel on the point, Peter Leblanc and Mike Sislo so Rawlings better be ready to face a lot of pucks. Also, shouldn't the game start at 7 30 as it is on NESN?

And keeping with the game time note... the Lowell game starts at 5pm? Any reason why? Convenient for those who cant drive up and can now commuter rail up and down without having to leave the game early like they would if the game started at 7.

Hoping for 2 points this weekend, I'll take 1, zero and I think it would be a disappointment.

Night (gm) 1.. will determine night 2. If we do well up in Durham.. watch out Lowell.

If not, its going to be a long weekend.

Anyone left beating the Mountain drum?

Thought Rawlings looks pretty solid for most of the game...granted Bentley ain't an offensive force but I think if the season hits the tank it won't be because of him.

And my god are those freshman good, think we've said it every year but this is without question Cro's finest class....

Not sure anyone was really beating the Mountain drum, but I wouldn't have complained if he saw the ice in any of the games the Huskies have played so far. Now that we're into the Hockey East schedule, it looks like Rawlings all the way. He just needs to not allow too many rebounds - there were a few times on Friday night that I think the team got lucky that there wasn't a Bentley player there to pick up a rebound and bury it.

As for the freshman, it's good that they've improved every year and we'll continue to see that as long as the program is improving as a whole. I'm sure it helped recruiting this year (and will at least for the next year or two) that they just renovated, so the freshman are playing in practically brand new facilities - even though it's an old building.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I can't wait to see the UNH game in action... Both of these teams are looking strong so far, and we won't be able to get away with much. Either way, it'll be a great weekend of hockey.

We can't afford for Rawlings to have another shaky first period... That said, he has been infinitely better with each game he has played so far. Love to see where these freshman are going this year and beyond...

I'll be happy with 2 points, but optimistically expecting 3. Close win against UNH and a tie with Lowell.

So what's the story with this game on friday. Any Husky action taking place anywhere before the game? Never been to UNH before...
