game

match

2-4 final

NU had some good chances in the last couple minutes, especially after they pulled the goalie. No finishes though...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

I can't be too upset about this game. Ultimately, we didn't play poorly defensively. Newton looked good in his own end, Element and Student were very good in the offensive end, and ultimately I think we outplayed CC for most of the game. Our forecheck was decent, again, better in the second and third than the first, and our freshmen forwards (especially Vermeersch and Vrolyk) looked good overall. Rawlings looked as bad as a DI goalie could in the first period. In the second, he looked okay, in the third ,he looked as good as I could have expected.

I can't imagine Chris looks this bad tomorrow; if he can build on today's third period, we'll be alright. If not...oy.

I'm still cautiously pessimistic. I expect us to look good in a loss but am open to the possibility of a win.

Welcome back to 2006-07; expect a good loss.

Dear Thiessen,

I miss you

Love,
every single one of us

On another note, we've had a LOT of icing/offsides/other stupid calls against us in this game.......
Just keep in mind that CC took some boneheaded penalties tonight, and also lost a star goaltender along with many key players after last season, so NU isn't the only team in that situation this weekend.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Tomorrow night Cronin will finally show his hand as to how he is going to handle the goaltending situation this season. If Rawlings starts, you can count on him riding Rawlings game in game out just like he did Thiessen during his fresman year. Otherwise we are going to see a timeshare between the pipes this season. I will say Rawlings looked promising after the first period (once he settled in). Thank god these arent league games, I still hold out hope that Rawlings' play this year will be a pleasant suprise for NU fans.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Rawlings did have his mometns in the 2nd and 3rd...

He needs to spend some SERIOUS time in the gym, with a trainer, working on explosive movements. He needs to get up quicker, and move from one end of the post to the other quicker. I still think he has a lot of nerves he's dealing with now. We have to stay optimistic and hopefully he'll come through.

But what about Mountain? Anybody have any thoughts about this guy? I'd like to see him play... would have loved to see all three goalies in the exhibition game... but oh well

Yeah, CC this season does not equal CC with Bachman in net

I agree with 90% of this. I'd hesitate to say that Cro's going with Rawling or Mountain tomorrow reflects on the rest of the season. I think you have to go with Rawlings based on the facts that he did look decent in the second half of the game coupled with the fact that it would be unwise to give him the impression that he can't make a mistake without being replaced. We can't tell guarantee him complete job security, but replacing him after one sub-par outing sends the wrong message as well.

Aside form that, I'm with you completely.

I hear ya JS, loud and clear... We had every opportunity to take the lead in the third and we didn't take it. Your new goaltender seems to be holding his own in there, though...

I guess i'll be feeding B2 my $7.00 again tomorrow night.... hoping for the best...

Its definitely difficult to get three goalies time in an exhibition game. I understand Cronin giving some time to our quasigoalie in Binnington because of seniority, but it hurts when Mountain gets no playing time. I don't think a period each is really enough either so it really became a catch 22. Although we can now count on never seeing Binnington in the crease for NU ever again.

I agree withn 90% of that. Rawlings will continue to give up soft goals all season if he does not learn how to move quicker and get in position at all. He would have given up more goals tonight if he wan't six foot six inches. I am optimistic about our freshman skaters. Our defenseman looked good and Vermessch and Vroylk looked very good tonight. However we might have to outscore our goalie all year long. I would give Mountain the start tomorrow to see what he can do. Either way, lets go Huskies tomorrow!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

So if NJ2NU agrees with me 90% and Thiessen's Better agrees with him 90% does that mean Thiessen's better agrees with me 81%?

yes, that would be a correct assumption

I wish Ellement well, but that was probably #21 Drew Muench that you saw with Student not 2 who wasn't in uniform. I didn't see the third period because of a feed problem, but we seemed to improve as the game progressed. The team had to get over Rawlings' debut. At times he looked stiff and unsure of himself. At other times he seems floppy and sloppy. I wouldn't care if he looked like a wooden native american if he keeps the puck out. So far, not so good.
One player who impressed me last week failed to follow up. It seemed that each time I noticed Drew Daniel (hereafter referred to as DDan/JDan), he was being pushed off the puck by one of the CC defenders. Perhaps an extended visit to the weight room and a nastier disposition is needed. We can't have nice kids playing for us.

We're all about the grit factor here at NU

I wish I had been able to make it home for the series this weekend. I always enjoy the early season games as we start to unravel the unknown. I truly don't know what to expect from either of these teams this season.

Just for the record, this is the only series of the season that I'm not cheering for the Huskies!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

some noteable quotes from today...

"two shots, two freshman, two goals" <---ouch

"a quiet crowd here in colorado. a full crowd, but a quiet crowd" <-- that's no doghouse...

"and that's six consecutive power plays for northeastern" <-- how did we only get two goals tonight?

also it looks like BC played all three of their goalies in both of their exhibition games so far... Including the supposed-to-be-out-for-the-first-half-of-the-season Muse....

I'm just echoing the fact that though I still think Rawlings can be our man, Mountain deserves at least a period in between the posts

No Doghouse, either. :p

The CC fans show up in good numbers (over 6000 per game) but it is far from the most energetic crowd from night to night. I will say that there are a lot of good, knowledgeable hockey fans, just not necessarily a wild bunch. There are a lot of families and local "townies". Also, CC's student section is somewhat of an embarrassment in that they don't cheer much, but CC is a school of just 1900 students.

And that is good proof that it is time for sleep...

thanks

Glad to hear the numbers are up, even if the energy isnt. I sure hope the NU fans represent this year. This will be a huge mental season for us. We seem to have the talent, we just gotta get everyone's [Rawling's] head in the game...

We'll see you in 19 hours....

Haha, I agree with you in that we will see how much confidence Cronin has in Rawlings tomorrow. Personally, I would start Mountain tomorrow but I wouldn't argue with Cronin if he stats Rawlings. I also am very happy happy that these are not league games and I feel like the most important aspect of these out of conference games is to get our goalie situation worked out before HE games start.
