Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Surprised no one's been talking about the BU tie from tonight. Looks like both the teams we played against are from the same league - Atlantic University Sport... and neither performed very well...

<---Not trolling.

Seems from the scores at least that, besides UNH, Hockey East didn't handle itself very well anywhere tonight... And SFXU was advertised as a "middle of the road" atlantic university sport team... BC is playing the same team we played tonight tomorrow, so I guess there's more info to come...

Were the Canadians as hard hitting tonight in Matthews as they were in Agganis?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Yes, they were quite hard hitting.... and pretty dirty (especially for an exhibition game)

I suppose that's just how the games played over there... but we had a few confrontations/fights as well

Looks like Xavier did a little better than St. Thomas last year... I'll be interested to see how they do against BC tomorrow.

Another interesting note- both teams had very few shots on goal... but still hung in there...

Hard hitting would be a mild way to put it. They were filthy; looks like several have solid ECHL careers ahead of them. I just hope no one else in HE was hurt, no one deserves that.

Nice pics as always Melissa. Thnks

Interesting to see those clear visors again.. i don't think i've seen them at the college level personally, for a while (if ever?). I was thinking last night, every time a shot is blocked that might come off the grill .. (ouch, in their case)!!.. They like to take it on the chin.. & they did dish right back.. puck & more. G'luck

Binnington looked.... poor, Rawlings's 2nd goal was very very soft, how it got passed him I may never know. He did look better than Binnington, we'll see who Cro goes with at CC. Good god I hope Qualier is ok, that was a nasty hit. The future is bright, we are just experiencing some growing pains, I'm excited for the regular season. Go dawgs!

John Carratu, NU's goalie coach has a very difficult job this year.
Stev Quailer had a MRI today. He is the team's best player.
Guzior, Strathman and Maley did not play. Maley had two operations over the summer and is not in hockey shape. Don't know if the other two are hurt or sick.
Guzior is now a D man.
Our old friend JVR had two assists for Philly last night.
I now know how the Providence fans (all five of them) felt last year when they realized that they did not have a goalie. More bad news, Clay Witt, a NU recruit and Sioux Falls goalie has lost his starting job.

I agree that he has a lot of work to do with these young guys but I don't think that you can totally make a judgement based on what we saw last night. Rawlings faced 9 shots and let 2 in. I know that isn't a great save percentage but it was his first live action in an NCAA game. We haven't even seen Mountain in net and we all knew what to expect out of Binnington. If they are playing like that in four weeks when BU comes into Matthews, then we can start the talk of a lost season.

any update on qualier's status?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Love to hear any updates as well...

on another note... Muse is playing in goal right now for BC... I thought he was out for the first half of the season?

Though he did let the third shot he saw in...

My impression was Xavier was physical but not any more than BU was. Some of the BU players had some pretty impressive hits, all clean, but it left the X-men (their name, not mine) shaken up. There was one small scuffle in front of a net but nothing too bad. Although maybe a bit much for an exhibition.

Xavier had a pretty good goalie if you have not looked up the shots against him. Their defense did a good job of breaking up BU passes too. Would like to see how they do against BC, BC is leading 2-1 right now.

I am curious to know, have these canadian teams already started practice? BU and I think NU only had their first real practice the same day as the game.

On the hockey east site there were some videos of what the all the coaches were expecting for the year. York said Muse healed and improved a lot faster than expected and said he wouldn't rule out Muse playing in the first half of the season.

I'm no expert, but look here
http://w3.stu.ca/stu/sites/mens_hockey/schedule.html

The Tommies have already had 4 exhibition games... One would expect they've been practicing for a while?

Same with the "x-men"

Was our first practice really yesterday?

Collegiate teams in Canada typically start practicing in early to mid september. They are normally 3 weeks ahead of NCAA hockey teams. This might not be the case for all schools but as Choog said, St. Thomas has had 4 exhibition games so I'm sure they've been on the ice for a few weeks now.

Any word on Quailer?

I heard Cronin say that Quailer is going to be "fine". He didn't elaborate anymore than that. I guess we can assume its a sprain. I would say hes questionable for this wekeend's matchup at CC. I have to say that I'm very very glad it wasn't serious

Sorry I took the offseason off. From what I have heard Qualier is out for the rest of the season. I hope it is just rumors of course
