Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

listed on heisenberg too...

as a 2013

(That would mean he would never play with our current freshmen class if he came in that late)

http://www.chicagomission.com/teams/U16.htm

There's the team page, can't find any stats though. Hope he pans out. The trend is the premier teams getting recruits from 15 year olds now and if they hit they hit, if not then thanks for trying. Looks like we're getting the same kids now too.

Also just clicked on their calendar, he participated in the tourney this past weekend in Oxford. I wouldn't be surprised if another couple kids verbaled soon too then.

I noticed an interesting line combo this weekend that I hadn't seen yet this season, Camper Wingles C Mac. They didn't net any points, but when they get rolling again that line has lots of potential. Hope they can keep that one intact for two years.

Well he was in town this weekend for the Midget showcase, solid player. Raw talent, but he is 15 yrs old. 2013 is about right, that would put him a year out of high school and atleast one or two years in juniors.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Miami got a commit from a '94 Chicago Mission forward, Ryan Hartman (don't know if he is a relation, but maybe/probably (?) not given he is playing for the Mission). '94

Hope you are right about the team being fine, rhm, but some things are starting to worry me (pp, some invisible players to name two). Coach Blasi did a lot of line shaking up during the Saturday game. I had trouble keeping up (I know, not surprising for me) in the third period. That could get interesting. Should be interesting to see who is together this weekend.

Im not worried, yet. Im sticking with this teams track records for some of these guys. They have proven to be productive and I am hoping it is just a little swoon for some and the pressure is getting to them. But for this team to be where they are without the guys producing like they are expected too is a good sign but I think it will come. If in January we are still seeing this then we can get a little worried.

I kind of like the shake up of lines, spreads it around and can jump start somethings from time to time.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

First time I've been able to post...been a crazy week both in and out of the office.

You know, we pretty much saw what we see against teams like Ferris who simply trap or pack 5 guys in front of their net as they did all weekend. And, once we get our legs going against it, the ice tilts as it did both nights about 30 minutes in. It's just something Rico doesn't coach well against and other squads would be wise to try it against us unlike the Michigan's of the world.

I'm not too worried yet, but would be nice to see some guys that are MIA on the scoresheet show up soon. We're still 8-1-3 and it's still way early.

It was nice to see both Steffes and Tomassoni back in the lineup on Saturday. And, I know Rico likes to bring different bodies in and out, but I'll be happy when he settles on his team as he usually does for the stretch run. Between that and the constant line shifts, it is hard to keep up and I have to believe equally difficult to forge continuity between the guys. One thing that's certain, the defense has played very well and the goaltending has been solid.

I am going to Saturday night's game in Kalamazoo. Lawson is a cool old building.

Also, North Dakota's Hobey hopeful, Chay Genoway, is injured and will likely miss next weekend's tilt. That will help us significantly. But, the Bemidji game will be no pushover as they were in the National semifinal. They look more for real this year than last.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

I have the ultimate respect for Miami's team this year and their overall program over the last 5 years. I will be in attendance for Saturdays games @ UND and am looking forward to watching playoff like hockey. Also looking forward to Fridays rematch as the Beavers are a better team than when we lost to the Red Hawks in the frozen 4. Miami is fun to watch and I expect both games will be 1 goal games. GO BEAVERS!

I agree. Last year's team probably wasn't as talented as this year's Beaver squad. Will be a good test for Miami just add another difficult game to an already challenging schedule thus far for the RedHawks.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

This week in the CCHA said:
As Berenson was leaving the post-game press conference following Friday’s 3-2 loss to Michigan State last week — after all was said and done — he turned to the press to make a point. He wanted us to know why senior Brian Lebler was a healthy scratch against the Spartans in Yost.

Lebler didn’t play, said Berenson, because he stepped on a RedHawk during the Nov. 8 5-1 Miami win over Michigan in Ann Arbor. It was an extraordinary game in which the Wolverines were completely outplayed and became completely undone and undisciplined. The incident didn’t seem especially malicious at the time and Berenson said that Lebler hadn’t intended to hurt anyone, but as he was leaving the press room, he wanted everyone to know that Lebler’s action “was just not something you do.”

"He stepped on a RedHawk"... makes it sound like he stepped on a bug or something. :p

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

If it didn't seem to be malicious or have the intent to injure, then he wouldn't have been sat.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

all in all a good win. Miele and Palmer are playing remarkable hockey right now. Reich didn't get tested but still had to stop the 15 sent his way and he did. It sounded like Miami went through the motions a little bit but had control of the game the whole way.

Side note- Holy batman is Michigan in trouble....lost 5 in a row and 4 in a row at home losing 4-2 at HOME to Bowling Green  . Also hello Ferris St., nothing like taking momentum into the next weeked and putting up a cool 8 spot!!! It got so bad Heeter was pulled after the first three and then came back in after Carlson gave up 4 in the second....things are spinning out of control in Columbus too...

But how about the University of Michigan being in 11th place in the conference???

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

we go through a rigorous part of the schedule and come out 8-1-1. we go into a Ferris/Western swing and come out 1-0-3. I'm not sure if we're ready for North Dakota anymore, hope I'm wrong, but definitely need to start lighting the lamp. only 7 goals in the last 4 games, 34 in the 10 before that.

Happens, better to be 1-0-3 than lose a game or two. Ferris is A LOT better than most gave them credit for. There is also something for teams playing desperate against the top team in the country. Next weekend will be a good test and we will have a target on our back again, especially since UND got swept this weekend....

and boy UND fans whine and cry worse than any others I have ever seen lol....

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Yes, Miami definitely is having trouble finishing; let's hope that changes soon. And it hurts in the league to get only 7 of the last 12 points with two home games in there. I think if someone had told us just one win in the next two weekends after UM, no one would have liked that. But, on the other hand, it's an eight game unbeaten streak and one loss in the first 14 games is pretty amazing, IMO. And, defensively and goaltending-wise, MU seems to be playing well (without seeing the Western series, but one goal a weekend usually works ok).

Camper had 11 shots on goal this weekend compared to 3 in the previous 4 games. Obviously he got the one goal last night, so let's hope he gets going. Seven d dressed last night with B Smith and Hetland. Not sure how that was rotated, but that's an interesting decision.

Sooo, the next stretch is again difficult. BSU is 10-1-1 and UND is UND, and then ND and OSU. It's a long season, and hey, at least we won one of those stupid shootouts.

my best bet would be we see the nations #2 goalie suiting up twice this weekend, or if anything the rotation gets swapped so knapp gets leave it to beaver and reich gets the sioux.

also according to the way too early numbers, we have the #4 strength of schedule

Ill do it one better, they have yet to lose in regulation!

But you are right the last 4 games make you scratch your head a little. With UND getting swept this past weekend they will be gunning for us and they are very talented. Eidness is solid in net, but one thing I hope we can take advantage of is their temper. They take a lot of penalties (usually all the refs fault and not their own) but play extremely physical. If Miami can get their PP going and not get sucked into the crap, I think we match up well with them.

There is a lot of talent on this offense and you would have to think it turns around at some point wouldnt you??

I believe it. Cudos to the athletic department and coaching staff for putting this schedule together. We won't have any questions about this team being tourny tested come april.

As for the goaltenders, you pose an interesting question. Knapp played well last night and you may hinder his confidence if you switch things up or sit him. I wouldnt be surprised to see Coach leave it the way it is.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Yes rhm, one would think this is a good bunch of forwards, but they sure are having trouble scoring goals lately. Maybe some are slowed by nagging injuries, I don't know. Also, I am sure things will settle down in the second half, but think about Miami's fourth line last year that usually had Lacombe and Loupee and somebody else (sometimes Vaive?). That gave Miami more depth than they have demonstrated this year, IMO. Was Tommasoni a seventh d or a forward last night? If Tomassoni was a forward, I think that tells you something.

Noticed Jay Camper committed to UNH.

Tomassoni played on the 4th line with heatland and B. Smith. For me it adds to my thought that there is something going on, I know steffes hasn't performed but he had a good soph and junior year and hasn't had regular time all year. For me you don't just yank a senior out of the line up who has performed in the past unless something is going on. I actually think the depth is better on this team this year than last, but thats just me.

As for Jay, I would assume Miami didn't go after him hard. Unless he made drastic and I mean drastic improvements over the past year and half he couldn't of cracked Miami's line up.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Not to get too far ahead here, but for those interested in coming up to Columbus for the December 11th game against OSU, the Columbus chapter is putting together a Miami section. Here are the full details...

Join the Columbus Alumni Chapter as the #1 Miami Redhawks take to the ice at Value City Arena in Columbus against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday, December 11th. The puck drops at 7:05pm. We'll be gathering at Varsity Club just down the road from the arena around 5pm for food and drink. For those who buy their tickets through the Alumni Association, there will be free pizza at Varsity Club.

Tickets are $6 and must be purchased through the Alumni Association via this link. You can pick up your tickets at Varsity Club during the pregame reception or inside the south-east entrance of the arena 30 minutes prior to puck-drop.

We need the Miami section to be larger and louder than the OSU fans (which really shouldn't be too difficult...), so spread the word!

If you have any specific questions, please contact Doug Cutler at douglascut1@gmail.com.

Love & Honor!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Yea agree on J Camper, he didn't develop enough over the past few years for us to give him much interest of anything more than a practice player. Curious as to why he picked UNH though, their older bro played at Cornell I believe.

Well I believe it could be because of the NCAA issues they are having they werent allowed to continue to recruit those players where infractions were committed so they had to go after a whole new class. They might of been the only offer he got from a big time program. All just my thoughts, don't know anything for certain.
