Yep. Michelle Bachmann for the win.

Be careful what you wish for. Princess Wackadoodle may look like a sure loser, but, well, you know...

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

That is very much interpretation...and not at all the way it was interpeted and handled under the country's first administrations (ie those of the founding fathers).

I'd be interested in seeing the normative text. I'm a little surprised it was interpreted differently, but if that's the established precedent, that's the established precedent. I think we can all agree that the precedent doesn't always agree with a strict reading of the text.

This is why commas are so important.

Just a warning for those who want to buy Rumsfeld's new book: The list price is $36 but you end up paying $3 trillion.

Do I get my own predator drone to carry out assassinations?

No, but you do get an Arnold figurine that keeps saying "Do it! Do it now!"

The view of the first administrations was that Congress could exercise spending independently to benefit the general welfare, such as to assist national needs in agriculture or education, and as advocated by Hamilton. And as Wiki states, to date the Hamiltonian view of the General Welfare Clause predominates in case law

I know you said little on this but...I still see no grounds for the claim of the unconstitutionality of healthcare.

Well no kidding, considering the precedent you have established is that anything you have deemed constitutional per your own interpretation of acting on behalf of the general welfare is...in fact constitutional.

You walk a fun line. Amusing, in fact. The problem is that you operate on the assumption that your interpretation is the correct one. You know, the same way the judge you have such a beef with did.

How are things in Georgia these days?

Are we using the general welfare clause again? You know, that clause, in its three year history as a principle in constitutional law, has become rather well traveled.

edit: I think in the era of food security, we should be asked to raise chickens in our domiciles.... or else have to pay a fine. Its for the good of you and your nation.

So, another week, another back-stab delivered to the British by the president. Its almost like his administration has a pathological problem with the Brits.

I'm going to throw a very expensive party for Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday and let my grandkids pay for it. You're all invited!

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

I'd rather fund the party with illicit arms sales to one group of thugs fighting another group of thugs with whom I don't agree politically.

You're late to the party. Obama did that last year for his birthday.
