Obama 7 - now what?

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

The variance between polling and actual results is way off. And again, these aren't people who refuse to answer the question. These are people that answer and LIE on their answer.

It doesn't matter what the polling is about, there's a 50/50 chance I'll lie to a pollster just to screw with them. Especially if they call during dinner.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

You might want to run that one by medical science some day soon since they don't seem to have the same information you do.

There have been twin studies and the research appears to point in this direction. Or are you asserting science has determined sexuality is principally a "choice"? At best research suggests that human sexuality is a scale, that has people clustering at various points. Sure could environmental factors play a role along with cultural pressures? Of Course, and that hasn't been ruled out. But the American Psychological Association notes that individuals almost never expereince or feel any sort of choice is involved in their sexual orientation (Paraphrase).

I wasn't seeking your approval, so your sarcasm is being wasted.

Well its sad that you're going to be joining our profession when you feel proud for being dishonest.

I mean usually it takes a few years in the business before you become so comfortable with it.
:p

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

If he every really blasted me, it'd resonate more than if someone like rufus does. And of course bothering me is a long way from having it impact what I believe or not.

I don't expect anybody to change their beliefs based on what I think of them. I'm delusional -- but not quite that delusional. :)

The closest I'd come to "blasting" you is this: I disagree with your view of gay marriage (of course), I'll work really hard to make sure your view doesn't prevail in the realm of public policy, and I think the result of it currently prevailing is the suffering of a lot of people unnecessarily. Is their pain to be laid at your feet for your beliefs? No, not in the slightest -- your beliefs are your business. Is it to be laid at your feet because you insist on mandating your belief as a public legal standard? Um... that's where I think I'd like to change the subject. :(

Legal systems are reified, collective moral codes. Even if we think we deduce them from general "laws" such as the Bill of Rights, those laws are themselves somehow induced from the ground of public sentiment. That's why such things as scriptural authority are never legitimate sources for legal systems. At bottom, the thing that makes laws legitimate is, paradoxically, that they are negotiated. The reason the majority can't vote away a minority's rights isn't that they wouldn't like to, but that they have a trump belief that the concept of a "right" is higher than the question of whether any given right is attractive, or even beneficial.

Bob is an Arsenal fan and therefore a gentleman.

See, I can find the good in people I disagree with.

The birth/choice argument is the most pointless one of all this, to me. Common sense and common experience indicates that we all know plenty of people who were "born that way".
But "being gay" can be defined in a number of ways.
And (this is true) I was born an alcoholic, but I never drink alcohol.

That's what I like about this board, I get to learn things routinely here. I thought dishonesty was a prerequisite. My bad.

I think it's probably easier to give up alcohol than sex, love, and companionship.

Just saying.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

I think he's trying to say that being born gay is no excuse for having teh buttsecks. Cuz he was born an alcoholic and is strong enough not to act on that, you see.

I was more confused by his assertion that he was born an alcoholic. I know you can be predisposed to the disease, but I've never heard of any being born with it.

No, I don't really care what other people do, excused or not. It's not my argument. I was just advancing another view of birth/choice.

this is confusing how?
I certainly wasn't getting drunk in the crib. But you know what I mean. I was born "predisposed" to alcoholic addiction in the same way that some people are born to be tall, and some people are born to be gay. Excuse me. Some people are predisposed gay.

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Mr. Prez is speaking right now at Wright Middle School in Madison. If you want to catch part of it, try channel3000.com or NBC15.com, which have live streaming video. Other places too, I suppose.

He's touting his Education reform package. One of his biggies is Merit Pay for teachers, and the Madison School Board pres. is REALLY opposed to this. Makes it difficult for him to support Obama being here today.

Ok, settle down. I was just trying to understand the argument. I'm a little sensitive about it cause I was born predisposed as well.

Mr. President along with the Federal Government should meet their responsibilities to Special Education before ever doing anything else.

Once they meet that responsibility they should dissolve the Dept. of Education and never touch education again.
