NWHL Announcement Event On Tuesday In Saint Paul

Re: NWHL Announcement Event On Tuesday In Saint Paul

From today's Star Tribune:

"Maplewood native Allie Thunstrom has signed with the Minnesota Whitecaps for the 2018-19 season, the National Women's Hockey League has announced. The winner of the state's Ms. Hockey award in 2006, Thunstrom scored a school-record 228 goals at North St. Paul High School before playing for Boston College, where she finished her college career with 86 goals and 138 points. Thunstrom, 30, played for the Whitecaps in 2011-12 before spending the past few years as an elite speedskater."

Thunstrom and Coyne...

Terrific championship game this afternoon between the Whitecaps and the Beauts that is tied at the end of Regulation 1-1. That means bonus hockey!

Congratulations to the Whitecaps! Um, are there really a lot of tall waves in MN?! I'm a little perplexed by the team name. Anyone able to shed some light on the subject please?

Larger lakes (plenty of them) where strong winds will create...White caps. :)

You're messing with me, right?! Can the white caps on a lake in the midwest be so significant that you name a sports team after them?! Aren't the lakes out there frozen most months of the year? ;)

There are quite a few lakes where you need to pay attention to the wind if you're out in a small boat. Or in the case of Superior, even an ocean-going vessel.

Aren't the lakes out there frozen most months of the year? ;)
That's only so hockey can be played on them. :)

By gosh I can tell you've never been on either Winnibigoshish or Leech on a windy day.

A lot of the lakes have Native American names.

I grew up by the ocean. Minnesota does NOT have whitecaps!!

Years ago I was sitting on the evening Maui beach with some native Hawaiians enjoying the beautiful view. When they said "I bet you have nothing like this in Minnesota" my response was "no, but some pretty nice lakes".

Of course they scoffed. Understandable, but little did they know ;)
