nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

uaafanblog

AKA - "Drop The Puck"
UAH has been dicked over for far too long as far as conference membership. I don't really wish upon them that they be saddled with having to play in a conference who's Athletic Directors have collective integrity equal to the U.S. House of Representatives but they want to be in a league.

UAA and UAF are way way way far far away. It's always been too far for anyone in college hockey.

What really is the downside for the nWCHA? They'd take a hit reputation-wise for causing the sport to contract? So what? They don't give a crap about that.

Barefoot versus Mukluk's. Zero sum game in my book.......... ;)

Here I was thinking this was going to be a boring off-season, glad you're off suspension.

May as well. It's not like the Big 10, or the Nacho conference gives a crap.

Re: nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

I think it's something that pretty much everyone can get behind. It solves pretty much all the problems for the new league.

UAF and UAA have done an outstanding job in supporting their places in the CCHA and WCHA. But like those schools, if UAH wants in they cannot expect the other members to support their entry and position in the league. No one in this group is writing a check to save UAH or to save UAA or UAF for that matter. It's not a matter of integrity. It's matter of dollars and cents.

Oh ... so saying one thing and taking opposite action isn't a lack of integrity. Thanks for defining it.

This is funny. It used to be about student athletes and opportunity. Hell, Title IX is entirely based on that fact. But, according to you it's about money.

In a perfect altruistic world, money wouldn't play a part. But, unfortunately, in this day and age that isn't the way it works. Money is why Minnesota and Wisconsin left to play with Penn State and Michigan State. It's why Denver and North Dakota left to play with Miami. They don't get their TV contract playing Alaska-Fairbanks and Lake Superior. Nor does Notre Dame get its TV deal playing NMU and Ferris. They have to play BC and BU. And now the smaller school with far fewer dollars and without a football team that sells 80,000 tickets 8x a year to help support athletics have to find other ways to play D-I hockey and remain solvent. We can talk integrity. We can talk what's best for college hockey. But that is no longer the reality.

Re: nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

This actually would be for the good of college hockey. Not for the good of UAA and UAF, but for college hockey as a whole... possibly. While losing two teams would be bad, would it be all that bad if it were these two? Plus, they would be saving UAH. With travel being so difficult and expensive (even if the Alaska schools foot some/most of the bill,) it makes sense to consider this proposal.

Once everyone got over the initial rash of hatred coming from those fans, in five years people would be laughing about how great it is they get to go to Huntsville in the winter instead of Alaska.

Then we should just dump all non-revenue sports and be done with it (women and men). Jettisoning UAA and UAF isn't going to solve the financial woes of college sports.

But that is no longer the reality.

So you then understand what I'm talking about. Reality. None of the pigs running these sports programs at any of these schools have any intention to live up to their talk. So since it's all about self-interest then start living up to that and kick UAA and UAF out.

But it will fix the nWCHA's problems.

Re: nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

I am in no way in favor of dumping anybody. I would hate to lose Fairbanks or Anchorage. Their programs are first rate and the people that are involved with them, from the fans, the players, the coaches, Dave Shyiak and Dallas Ferguson on up are first class all the way. The same can be said for the coaches, administrators and fans in Huntsville. I am hopeful that Huntsville finds a way. But like UAF and UAA supporting their position in their leagues in the past and in the future, UAH will have to find a way to do likewise if it wants inclusion.
