November 1 start date????

Re: November 1 start date????

I am guessing that if the NESCAC does not participate in the NCAA tournament they could switch it back to Lake Placid or on campus. Or is this going to happen with or without the approval of all Conferences?

Based on NESCAC and ECAC East success a Nov 1 start date would not be that bad. Dragging the championship out until April that could get old.

Why not add 1 game or a scrimmage to fill up some of the down time with games!
Conferences? I think it's the school presidents that vote and I am not sure if single sport conferences get a seat at the table. The multi-sport conferences are the MIAC, NESCAC, SUNYAC, MASCAC and the WIAC.

Would a conference that doesn't qualify for a Pool A bid get a say?

Re: November 1 start date????

Yes
From 10/15 to 11/1.

They ARE NOT proposing to change the date for the first practice (Oct. 15) - they are worried about the "pink bunnies" not scheduling enough practice before the first permissible contest.

One from the Council’s playing and practice seasons subcommittee recommending Nov. 1 as the first permissible contest date for men’s and women’s ice hockey. The Division III Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Committees have supported the change. Currently, the dates for the first practice and first contest are the same (Oct. 15), which has raised health and safety concerns. This proposal puts the first contest date about two weeks later.

How are the DI championship sites chosen? Is there a chance Denver could host? Then I might be down for the change.

I would agree with that, but only that concept. I could even embrace that, although I have a feeling we could be the only two people in the Pepsi Center if that were to come to pass

Right now 2014 is the last site on the list. The NCAA will announce future sites this winter(?).

Also of note -- there are no D-I regional sites for 2014, lending speculation that the NCAA is going to change the tournament format.
