Northern Michigan University Wildcat 2021-2022 Hockey Thread

NMU Floor Hockey Champs 87-88
I kept waiting for somebody to get this going, so I guess I will. I have heard nothing down here, any updates on the Cats? How we looking this year?

Don't know much myself as I live 8 hours away. Just looking forward to seeing NMU at the February series down in BG - provided schools don't start severely limiting the number of fans in the rink (see RPI).

I guess I will make one last attempt to get the Cat fans back on board. We have those guys to the west this weekend. We are coming off a couple good games with Boston U, but it didn't really help us much, so this weekend is pivotal. GO CATS!!!

Dec 28-29, 1984; NMU won 4-2 & 6-5 in OT and Jan 8 1988; NMU won 7-3.

NMU is 3-2-1 in Boston and the teams are 1-1-1 on neutral ice.

I am not saying I remember it, but I was at that game in 84. I had season tickets and never missed. Probably don't remember because of the Donor Room.

My daughter, a grad student at NMU, went to the game last night and relayed this exchange:

We sat next to this tech fan probably in his 30-40s and when they score their first goal he leaned over to us and asked if we were okay. So when we scored our 2nd I said back are you okay. And at the OT game winner he just looked at Haley and I and said this is what is whiskey for

Should have had 6 points this weekend. A little bad luck with some less than stellar defense cost is a point. All due respect to Ferris. They are better than their record shows.

Ultimately, I prefer the overlooked roll, but I'm really hoping Northern can jump on Duluth & make some noise & surprise this weekend.

Northern went 6-1-1 in November, is 5th nationally in Goals Per Game, 9th nationally in Power Play Percentage, and has 2 of the top 10 national goal scoring leaders (Vanderbeck with 12 & Colella with 11). Half of their losses are to top 8 teams (2 to #2 Minnesota State & 1 to #8 Notre Dame). The other 3 are to teams just outside the top 20 - BSU (which were close) and Tech.

Duluth is not a strong offensive team, averaging just 2.79 GPG to Northern's 4.07. Defense, which is the biggest concern (Duluth allows just 1.57 gpg to Northern's 3.73) has to step up this weekend.

I appreciate the information. I was just jumping on to see how Duluth was doing this year, and you certainly summed it up. I know what I am doing Friday night. Hoping for a great series.

I see where college hockey news has said that the reason you won last night is because duluth played the backup. I only saw about ten minutes of the game so from someone who saw it all, is that an accurate characterization?
