I think that the media placements were pretty fair. You lose three of your top five scorers, and Tolvanen's been injured in the past (which totally wasn't his fault). It's a lot of turnover, but you have a solid foundation in net to build from. NMU will be one of those teams that may start slow but finishes strong. I'm very interested to see how this works out.

Tolvanen played 38 games last year. His Freshman year he played 25, plating most of the games in the first half while Mathias Dahlstrom was injured, then getting a little less than half the starts once Dahlstrom came back. No extended injury trouble for Tolvanen.

Sitting here at the Berry at first intermission and this place is pretty packed! Not sure if it's the home opener, excitement for the new coach, Comley night or a combination of all three but it's really great to see this place full outside of a Tech game!

Top NMU Hockey Performances From LSSU Series This Weekend

NMU's Robbie Payne has (4) Goals in 1st two games vs LSSU
NMU's Troy Loggins has (4) Assists and (13) SOG in 1st two games vs LSSU
NMU's Atte Tolvanen gives up only (1) Goal vs LSSU on Saturday nite
NMU's (5) Freshmen all played well and held their own

Two more power play goals given up though. Point of concern? 7-for-13 on the PK through three games.

Looking at shots Tolvanen stole one. Good to see the team respond after giving up those goals too. Always nice to start conference play with a W!

My favorite was how the FSU guys were talking about how the Bulldogs were dominating when NMU was up a goal. Did FSU have a pressure advantage? Yeah, a bit, but you gotta score.

From where I saw it, Ferris had a big Advantedge in shots, quality shots, puck possession and turnovers forced. Ferris also missed the net on a number of Grsde A’s. Tolvanen was the difference in the game.
