Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

Why would an NMU fan support MSU at a pep rally? Unless I'm missing something...

I last chatted with him around 1990, but if I recall correctly he attended Michigan State and was a cheerleader there. If anyone who knew him better can confirm or correct, it would be appreciated.

Confirmed. As we gathered to celebrate his memory yesterday, the story was related of how, at the CCHA Tourney at Joe Louis Arena, NMU & MSU were playing in different games and how he had the full set of gear for both!

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

I believe it looks something like this. No dates yet.

Home: LSSU, Tech, UAA, Bemidji, Ferris, Bowling Green, Minnesota St, Cornell

Away: UAA, UAF, UAH, Tech, LSSU, Bemidji, Bowling Green, St Cloud, Michigan State

Will try to get tickets to Cornell and Tech at home, and then down I-96 to see the Cats at Munn.

BG, UAH, and MSU look promising.

I need to get some NMU shirts and stuff. All my old shirts shrunk.

When will the schedule be released?

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

When will the schedule be released?

There's often some juggling/finalizing of schedules going on at the annual coaches meeting in Naples FL at the end of April, so anytime after that seems likely.

Thank you Ralph.

The Wildcat family is once again struck with tragedy.

Interesting of note, his six games, or even his name, don't show up anywhere in the official all-time player records.

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

:(

This is a connection I don't want my school to have :(

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

Also, NMU forward Joe Nardi was teammates with Humboldt Bronco defenceman Stephen Wack in 15-16 (on the Whitecourt Wolverines, AJHL) and worked out in the summers with Bronco Logan Hunter.

I'm sure there are other ties to the Wildcats as well.

I'm sure there are other ties to the Wildcats as well.

Current SCSU Assistant Coach (and former NMU Assistant Coach) Mike Gibbons with some added trivia:

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

Couple items I'll break into different posts. First, Dave Shyiak shared his Humboldt Bronco's jerseys with the Twitter world:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">What an unbelievable community to play for and represent. It has been truly amazing to see the world wide support for these families after this horrific tragedy. Like the Board of the Humboldt Broncos said: “The power of healing is in the Game” # HumboldtStrong <a href="https://t.co/SiBJuwKtrm">pic.twitter.com/SiBJuwKtrm</a></p>— Dave Shyiak (@david_shyiak) <a href="https://twitter.com/david_shyiak/status/984901250847264773?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 13, 2018</a></blockquote>

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

Second item, moving this thread forward for the summer is our own DavyD who said this on Twitter:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The 2018-19 <a href="https://twitter.com/NMUHockey?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@NMUHockey</a> schedule will be revealed on Wed. May 9 on 100.3 the Point & <a href="https://t.co/m5B1Igx5ZA">https://t.co/m5B1Igx5ZA</a>. The broadcast will get underway at 1:45 pm with Coach Grant <a href="https://twitter.com/potulny?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Potulny</a> <br><br>We’ll also have info on season tix & promotions for the upcoming season for <a href="https://twitter.com/WCHA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@wcha</a> finalists! GoCats!</p>— David Danis (@Wildcat_Dave) <a href="https://twitter.com/Wildcat_Dave/status/992024556641669121?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 3, 2018</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Great news!

Schedule will be released next Wednesday! I know I'm going to try to work to see what weekend would be best for an Alumni weekend (or at least an Alumni Saturday).

Promotions for the upcoming year! It seems that after well over a decade of ideas drummed up on this forum, on Facebook, on Twitter, on the old CatHockey.com, over AOL Instant Messenger, e-mail, and repeated marketing questionnaires from the University, the University is *FINALLY* doing some things to promote the team. They really missed the boat on the 40th anniversary of the program, so it's nice to read that they're investing more into their crown jewel sports program to draw fans in.

I'm sure I'll have some snark to say once the schedule and promotions are released, but so far this is promising!

How far Sparty has fallen 🤣

Re: Northern Michigan University 2018 Offseason Thread: In Memory of Goofus

Viewership numbers are in for the WCHA Championship Game on FoxUP.

The pregame show opened at 6pm with a 5.0 rating and steadily grew to 7pm when the game telecast started. The game itself drew a 16.4 rating and just short of a 50 share.

(Editor's note: Rating is calculated by dividing number of viewers by the total # of viewers available in the market. Share is calculated by dividing number of viewers by only those people watching TV at that time. So with a 50 share, 1 of every 2 active viewers in the Marquette DMA was watching the game.)

Additionally, FoxUP brought in as much revenue from the pregame and game telecasts as they did for the Super Bowl.
