Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

The Golf Tournament will be on Thursday, September 8th. At Framingham; hope to have more information on June 1st.

Join the Friends of NU Hockey for our annual year-end meeting on June 14 starting at 5:30 p.m.! This year, the meeting will be held in the Frost Lounge located on the first floor of Ell Hall at Northeastern's Boston campus. The meeting will begin with a year-end review, followed by next season's agenda as well an address by head coach Greg Cronin on incoming freshmen and the goals for the 2011-12 season. The meeting is free and the Friends of Hockey will provide free sandwiches and light refreshments. We do ask that you RSVP so we can order the appropriate amount of food. Thank you and we hope to see you there!

RSVP for the annual year-end meeting!

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

I'm familiar with this site. The author of the recruiting section has a paucity of "special insight" and depends on stats and puff pieces as a source of his rankings. If bu,bc, NODAK, Michigan or Minnesota recruits someone, that player is a prime candidate for inclusion on one of his lists.

One could make a case that NU had the best freshman class in HEA last season, yet we would have had zero preseason recognition if Jamie O was only 6'3". I'd be more interested in seeing his rankings of this group next March

Where was the source that he was coming in this year?

He's listed on Heisenberg's site as a 2011 commit, and Ryecheers (who knows a lot about these sorts of things) mentioned his paperwork and such were in order. Not to mention we grabbed his linemate Saponari a few weeks ago.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

I mean it makes sense for him to come. He can play next to Vinny again and after a Rookie of the Year, 4th overall scorer, 2nd best goal scorer season, what's left to prove at the USHL level?

Exactly. The only reason for him to stay is if Montgomery convinced him he needed another year of seasoning, but I think Cronin and his assistants have been pushing hard for him to come now. I'm guessing we won't know anything official until the roster comes out or Gaudreau says something

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

We probably won't know for some time....hope the news reports are wrong.....Does anybody know about when rosters are actually posted? Being an avid Debuque follower and having followed CR as well...would still have loved to see a line of Saponari and Gaudreau centered by Kovacs....would probably be a scoring machine! Saponari would bring experience along with an "edge" due to his prior time in HE, Gaudreau is a finisher and Kovacs is a playmaker who excells at working the boards and winning face-offs.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

We've talked about these three recruits being "a point a game" guys....but look at the total of their stats.....combined....195 points in basically a 60 game season.....I kind'a like a combined 3.25 points per game! Dream a little....if the stats held...the combined threesome would have an over 100 point season using a little over a 30 game schedule. Would be fun!

Last time they got posted in August, of course that was influenced by MacMillan leaving and Ferriero coming in late, so mid-July to early August is when I'd look for it. I think those 3 would be a dangerous mix, Saponari and Gaudreau are two dangerous wings and if we can find them a good playmaking center we could have one of the best lines of Hockey East. I think we have a lot of depth up front, especially if Gaudreau does come this year.

Mr. Gaudreau will be wearing a Husky uniform next fall. Please do NOT believe everything you read in the papers!!you oa lot of Ryan Ginand.

His number is already assigned. He'll remind you of Ryan Ginand with slick passing skills.

He looks at least an inch taller than 5'6". Perhaps he is still growing. He might want to spend some time in the weight room over the summer.

Long as he can pass as a bit as well.. will be good for the team.
I loved Ginand..but passing was not his forte :).

Can't wait to see Mr Gaudreau, whenever he does decide.. sounds like a fun player to watch skate.

Ryecheers....sounds Great! Of course, the "silly season" continues and suggest that whatever their reasons...maybe appeasing their fans....this early in the off-season...Debuque continues to be in denial!

see: http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=322637

And GoNus...thanks for the info about the roster release time. Any news on other recruits such as Karlsson or Reid...and the D-men...Haar and Oskroba? Guessing doesn't get us ANYWHERE but it is fun in these "dogdays".

EDIT: the above site listing doesn't appear to be working. Article can be found thru a site called "Finish Your Check". Don't have the link. Sorry.

EDIT: Getting sloppy in my old age! Had originally put an "s" on the word article. Now corrected and the link appears to be working.

Haar will be exciting, was listed as a top 10 person in the USHL for the NHL draft, I've heard he has excellent passing and offensive skills, which will be welcome. Reid is big and got hampered by injuries, but he's a good 3d or 4th liner, scored a goal each game in the U-18 tournament that happenend a little while ago. Karlsson is a PKer, a power forward. Has nice size, probably also will be on the 3rd or 4th line. Oskroba is massive and has a power shot, but I have a feeling he's a depth guy who won't see a lot of time.

We need finishers. I mean MacLeod was the only real finisher we had last year. Reid also but that was only a second half run. We need scorers.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Haar is a strong Dman and he will help out a lot. Really like Olesiak. Question is will he turn Pro? He'll be a first rounder for sure. Great Great player!!!

So who's he likely to be paired up with? A Haar-Oleksiak shutdown pairing?

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Haar will be strong from the start I think, he seems the most ready of our D-men. Not sure where he'll be, my thinking is on the 2nd pairing with Oleksiak. Haar is one of the smaller D-men on our team at 6'0'', and has offensive power, so fitting him with Oleksiak could be a nice fit. I think (and hope) Oleksiak will stay another year, a guy his size needs some time to mature. Luckily he's projected for later in the first, so as long as a team with a drastic need isn't drafting him I think we'll have him for one more year.
