Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

I've been wondering the same thing. Lauwers has probably had some leadership training during his freshman year at West Point. I have no idea if he has the makeup and ability to monitor and motivate. I've met Adam Reid several times. He has some excellent qualities, but I don't know if he has a "kick-arse" side to him. He's bright, and if he can step up, he might make an excellent captain and represent the program well.

Perhaps well get the answer to this question at the Banquet on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, I have Grandpa duty that night and must miss it. Is anyone here going? Huskies01, this would be a great opportunity for you to actually speaking to JM and to get a better understanding of what is going on. Hopefully one of our posters will attend and update us.

I will be at the banquet, first time for me. I believe the banquet last year is when JM declared the captains for this past season, so I would expect that announcement again. If I were betting on the C, I would put my money on Lauwers. As a plebe at USMA, in addition to cadet basic training, they do receive some leadership training. Lauwers also would be the team rep in the pregame captains/officials meetings at times when Manson was hurt..he and Pimm both had that role. That may mean zilch, just an observation. My best guess would be Lauwers gets the C, with the A going to Reid and Snydeman. I don't see anyone from the rising junior class stepping into an A role.

I have the impression that the QPac games would be in CT this year, with a return in MA next ('15-16) year. They had some serious losses to graduation.

Lowell played a home-and-home with Quinnipiac last year and is doing the same again this coming year. Wouldn't be surprised in the NU/QPac games are the same.

I think today starts NLI day

This is correct.

I believe HHound said a few weeks back that Cockerill had signed a NLI during the early period, so we know at least one recruit coming in for sure

2014-15 Captains:

C Dax Lauwers
C Adam Reid
A Torin Snyderman
A Clay Witt

I can't imagine they'd name Witt a captain if he was leaving, right? I guess we have ourselves a goaltender then.

I spoke to him after the banquet as people were filing out. He said he's coming back, he's going to take CPS courses online. Allows him to focus solely on hockey. JM also announced Clay would return before giving him the team MVP award. We do indeed have a goalie. Clay, Dax, Szmatula all reiterated that the guys are pumped for next season, they're hungry. Next year is going to be fun.

Smart move by Witt, why leave college hockey to play in the ECHL. That will be there April of 15

It's nice to have good players back.. wanting more.

This team will have the players and skill to win next year. I personally would like to see better puck movement up the ice and to cut down on opposing team shot totals each game. We can't continue to just let teams rack up 45 plus shots a game. What would you guys like to see improve.

Ditto. He apparently got good advice and had the good sense to see past whatever might have been there in the short term in order to set himself up for bigger and better things this time next year. From what I can tell at this point, everyone but Manson will be back so it should be one heckuva year.

Now, with the personnel situation more or less settled, it's time to fix whatever was wrong with special teams.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

And like that, next season is looking bright with Witt's return.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

Still need better D men. That was the problem that only got worse with Manson leaving. Sounds like the better d men are all '15.

Personally I think the corps will be fine even with the loss of Manson. Experience + talent coming in + forwards doing their jobs on D, I think we'll be alright. As for the powerplay....that I'm not so optimistic about at the moment.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

as has been mentioned several times.. too many shg given up. too many opportunities missed on pp. emphasis on special teams should be priority for coaches & players alike.
