Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Any good places to eat around Matthews?

Connor Larkins is the main bar frequented by NU students and fans before games, right on Huntington Ave. That'd be my suggestion, their buffalo chicken nachos are on point. Punter's Pub is also an option, up closer to the MFA. A new burrito place opened near BHOP...don't go to BHOP. That pizza is terrible. Barely can be called pizza, IMO. There is also an UNO's a short walk from the arena. Basically head to Huntington, and between the Marino Center and the Symphony T stop, you'll find a ton of food options.

The 1st PC goal was on a bad change on the PK that you don't see in the Super 8. I wish I had a gif of the 4th goal so I could show people when they ask what its like to be an NU fan. When 15 plays a full 60 minutes, it'll be the first time since his freshman year. At least Szmatula tries.

Jim, I know you love this University, do the right thing. Step down before it gets more embarrassing than it already is.

Well that was a pretty inspired rant/history lesson by Rossi. No idea why, but sure, its a message board. Cannot wait for the book to come out.

All signs point to low scoring. So first team to two goals wins?

Cant go again. Hope to watch some on the inter-webs.

Yeah low scoring for us and high scoring for them..They were so bad that I left in the 2nd intermission and went to Our House East for a beer. Nobody was skating and that physicality from Sat. translated into a lot of bone head penalties tonight.

However, Huskies 01 I am sure you will spin it as the glass is half full as you usually do, even when the reality is the glass is totally fing empty! Oh and BTW when I do write the book I will be sure to send you a signed copy!

Watched most of the 2nd and 3rd from the comfort of my own home last night. The difference between this game and the Minnesota one is that one team came prepared to play us, PC, one team did not, Minnesota.

You could tell PC did advanced scouting, they were in every NU passing lane last night. They knew our breakout better then we do. Great example is on the third goal they gave up. Our guy went to make the typical cross ice pass out of the zone, the PC guy was waiting there, took the pass, went in and made that great cross ice pass through the entire NU team for the goal. Same thing kept happening over and over again in the 2nd. Our guys could not figure out how to breakout of the zone, our coaches were to slow to help the player adjust, game over.

The only line that could sustain any kind of pressure was the Jersey Boy line last night. Collier to me still sticks out as a guy who is playing well, and whatever line he is on typically puts together good shifts, or at least Collier stands out on them. JM still is trying to shove the three Ontario forwards into the top 2 line though. Does not work. Hedges maybe leading the team point and assist wise, but does he look like a playmaker out there? Is his line, the #1 line playing like it? Sikura still thinks he is playing in Juniors trying to stick handle through every one and ends up taking weak shots from dumb spots on the ice.

The main issue I see is that Roy and Szmatula have not grown their games any over the last season. Teams adjusted to them, and they have not adjusted their games. You can get away with beating guys with speed for only so long. Unless you are Patrick Kane and have an extra gear nobody else does, you need some more tricks in your book. But the book is out on those two, and they have yet to write new chapters.

Biggest challenge now will be the coaches having two days to actually coach. I love watching the bench during time outs. JM yelling at the refs, the new guy standing there doing nothing with a smirk on his face, and Keefe trying to figure out what is going on. They have two days to come up with some changes to the breakout, and figure out how to adjust it mid game when PC starts tightening the screws.

Witt continues to look good though. Not much he could do about the last 4 goals.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Look for JM to be out after this year and Scott Gordon to end up there/
Would be a great fit, very good teacher when at Providence Bruins and a quality+ coach/guy

Much as I like JM on a personal level, this is one time I hope you're right. NU has, regrettably, reached the point where it needs to do what's best for the players and the program.

Shocking watching the neutral zone play and turnovers..... Get it in and get to work. dozens of stickhandling moves at center ice, 86%+ dont work

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

This is amazing.. if true. hoky.. thanks for the early xmas gift (no returns no exchanges! ) :)

Scott is a solid hockey person & stand up guy.. long as he understands the college model with the student athletes.. (can't beat his hockey pedigree & experience.. on par.. heck better than Cronin).. he will make the hockey player so much better!!!..

this a guyI would love to skate for!
Thank you JM.. they will find something for you.. you know it.

If you are a hockey player & get contacted by NU hockey now.. !wow!.. what an opportunity..

Thank you Northeastern!!!

Competitive; solid hockey ..something to look forward to..
Go Huskies!

My guess is this information on Scott Gordon and his tenure with the Providence Bruins is as "insider" as it gets, so NU fans can probably take it to the bank.

As much as I'd like to see this for the future of the program, until it is officially announced, I'm assuming JM is back for a fifth season. I really, really want to believe Hoky, but just can't bring myself to until this season is at least over.

i know.. i know..
and hoky has been wrong on several occassions. just want something positive.. something solid in place for NU Hockey.. moving forward.

as evidenced when Acciari smoked Roy. Knew exactly what he was going to do.

Let's not count any chickens before they hatch. This is Northeastern, after all.

Unless you believe "Hokydad's" post is wishful thinking and/or pure speculation, it implies that one or more decision-makers at NU has already reached out to Scott Gordon.
