Mr Roy has some competition for next year. Wonder which one of these 2 is the scholarship goalie?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Has anyone seen or heard anything regarding Witt officially signing a pro contract? These recruits may be an indication, but I have not seen any formal declaration of Witt signing.

I honestly think the competition going into this year is what drove Witt to work as hard as he did. Hopefully all 3 tendies go into the summer with the same tenacity and work ethic.

I have not seen anything official at all about Witt leaving NU prior to his final year of eligibility.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Can someone tell me if we lead the nation in short handed goals allowed?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

I would like to know if we're the only team to allow two shorties on the SAME POWER PLAY though. That takes a special kind of suck.

Decided to take a look at the projected team for next year, to see both the amount of depth we will have and how the team looks overall. It looks like, without cuts/transfers/early departures, we will have between 29 and 31 players as a part of the 2014-15 NU team. There are currently 20 skaters slated to return and one goalie. For incoming recruits, I went off of Heisenberg's list, bumping anyone who was listed as unsure between '14 or '15 into purely '14 to see what our "maxed out" look could be. This is also assuming we do not pick up a late recruit. This is how it breaks down, by position:

Forward
Adam Reid (Sr), Torin Snydeman (R-Sr), Ryan Belonger (Jr), Mike McMurtry (Jr), Kevin Roy (Jr), Zach Aston-Reese (So), Dalen Hedges (So), Mike Jameison (So), Will Messa (So), Tanner Pond (So), John Stevens (So), Mike Szmatula (So), Jason Cotton (Fr), Nick Hutchison (Fr), Ryan Rosenthal (Fr), Dylan Sikura (Fr), Nolan Stevens (Fr)

Defence
Dax Lauwers (Sr), Dustin Darou (Jr), Jarrett Fennell (Jr), Mike Gunn (Jr), Colton Saucerman (Jr), Matt Benning (So), Gus Harms (So), Jake Schechter (So), Garrett Cockerill (Fr), Josh Couturier (Fr), Trevor Owens (Fr)

Goaltender
Derick Roy (R-So), Ryan Ruck (Fr), Jake Theut (Fr)

I expect there to be a handful of cuts/transfers, as we cannot possibly carry this many players through the season. In addition, I expect there will be redshirts handed out to players who did not play much/at all in order to retain the year of eligibility. Regarding incoming freshmen, I expect Hutchison to be pushed back a year, and possibly Stevens, though most of what I have seen indicates he is matriculating in the Fall of 2014. Cotton is another '14 or '15 listed, but I am hoping the coaches bring him in next year.

Overall, I see depth at the three positions, uncertainty between the pipes, and some promising young blood coming in again. If anyone else has comments, please feel free to share.

Others are saying Cotton and Hutchison are being pushed back another year. That would get you to 15 forwards. Which is about right. Figure Messa/Jameison only play if we have an emergency.

I think they may actually look to carry more dmen then they will actually use due to health reasons. Keep in mind Gunn has yet to play a full season. I think that helps the group of DD/Fennell/Schechter. I figured all three would be gone, but now with Manson leaving, they may choose to keep 9 dmen, especially since a few of those guy are probably paying their own way.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Schechter had the highest average plus/minus per games played of anybody on the team, offense or defense. Among players who played at least 15 games, it wasn't even close between him and the next person. He went from sitting in the stands for 3 months to leading the breakout on the first PP unit, even when Manson and Benning returned. I assume that the coaches saw something in him. He was plus 3 on the BC weekend because he was the only Dman with BC speed. Don't understand why you wouldn't want him back.

I should have clarified my stance better. I actually like Schecter, its nice to have a d-man who can skate very well. I'm certainly fine with him playing, but what I meant was the only d-men I would really be upset with leaving was Manson and Benning.

Hard to comment on any incoming freshman, I have never seen any of them play.

Are you 100% sure Witt is gone? I did not see that he signed anywhere but maybe I just missed it. Thanks.
