Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Witt just had maybe the best goaltending season in NU history, he deserves to sign a pro deal.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Sucks to be NU. #1 dman and goalie gone.

In the same day too. Can't even let a wound heal before opening it again.

Guess we'll be spending a lot of time in the offseason questioning which goalie will emerge and how the D will look. Sounds awfully familiar.

The defense was not good with him. It can continue to be not good without him. Honestly, how many guys do we want back from this defense? Alot of this I also put on the coaches. Having three ex-forwards as coaches without one guy who used to play defense on staff is an issue. I dont think the coaching for the d-core is up to par, and that does not help the guys we have get better.

I'm not that concerned that we have former forwards coaching our D. There have been former Ds who directed several offenses. The coaches are students of the game, not just of the position that they played.

With these signings, we will have the scholarship $ to bring in another goalie and to accelerate one of our defensive recruits. If we do, I'm guessing that Duschesne in Sioux Falls is the most advanced.

Do you think there are any chances of a high profile goalie like Weyrick coming to Huntington Ave this fall?

I know we had him in for a visit before he committed to Brown. I don't know why he decommed, but if he wants to go to college next year, he certainly knows our situation. There's also a very good goalie in the north country, who we have been following and, who might want to come to school.

Of course you blame them. He was the best one they had, if it was Saucerman leaving I don't think anyone would care.

I thought it was that his financial aid did not come through

His financial aid at Brown wasn't approved.

You suggest that I am hung up on statistics, then you complain about McMurty's stats.

The difference is I am looking at his COLLEGE stats. Its apples to apples. He has two seasons under his belt now, and we now know what we have with him. A 4th liner, no matter what the position, who has to play on the 2nd line.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Just found out from the schedule thread that Minnesota @ Northeastern is happening next year. I'm already excited.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

i'll be more excited when I know we have a capable 'tender that can handle that type of offense.. :)

on a related note.. g'luck Clay.. all the best to you. Would've been great to see you in the NCAAs.. would be even better to see you (hopefully) on the National stage.

When is the next NLI signing period? Sometime in April, if I'm not mistaken? Hopefully that time frame will give us an indication regarding who is coming in and who is being delayed. I have not heard of any NLIs being signed up to this point. IF anyone else has heard different, please share.

Cotterill signed during the November period. Gaudoury also signed, but couldn't get through the clearinghouse and went to the Q. Those are the only ones I know about. there may be others.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

I just want to point out to all those who are getting in a tizzy about Manson and possibly Witt leaving, the last time NU made some noise and went to the Garden for the Hockey East playoffs, they started three freshmen dmen. Not saying that whoever the three will be can live up to that, and we know that the coaching they get will not be up to the same level that those 3 got, the coaching job for those 3 might have been the best i have ever seen from September-March, but it does not mean last place either.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

And two years later they were all gone.
Are you saying Cro was a great defenseman coach? BTW, the Toronto Globe and Mail is calling for the heads of the Leafs' current coaching staff after the team, which started out like a house afire has turned into more of a mudslide.

Yes they were.

I say whoever was coaching up the three of them, either Cro or one of the assistants did one of the best jobs i have seen of getting three freshmen to play at a much higher level from September to March then I have ever seen. The jump Olesniak made was amazing, along with Bitetto. Yeah, they were talented guys to begin with, but they were different players by the end of their freshmen year. Type of coaching I wish Benning would be getting here now.

And yeah, Toronto has fallen to pieces. Same way our team did down the stretch. Lots of similarities between them and us. Both teams have a few high end forwards and then grinders who really do not add much of anything. Neither team have any quality dmen to speak of. Both are over reliant on their goalies. Neither team play with the puck. Both historically never win anything and when the team starts to do well the fans start to puff out their chests just a bit to early to see it all fall apart.
