Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

penalties continue to hurt NU? you were only called for four minors tonight...

now, what did kill you this weekend was your PP. not only by not doing much of anything, but you also gave up some killer shorthanded goals. also, very, very quiet two games for kevin roy. not sure how much of that has to do with BC and how much of it was him simply not playing well.

4 minors, 2 of which were when we were already on the PP, and we were missing a Ferriero (or 2) due to their penalties, so I stand by my statement.

Definitely on the PP and I'm ok with it for regular shifts, but this team need to have 4-5 forwards on the ice at all times. Yes, this is an exaggeration but our defensive players have to be the worst in the nation.

We had more SHGs allowed than we did PPGs this weekend. There are teams that go the entire season without allowing 2 SHGs, and I'm not even talking about top 10 teams.

Your PP is horrendous. You should be happy your team took penalties to negate those chances. Maybe it was intentional.

Our PP is 13th in the nation. 11 for 46 23.91%
UMass who is 1st in Hockey East and 2nd in the nation has only 2 more PPGs in 2 less tries.

FYI, your PP is 4 for 25 and 36th in the nation. Sacred Heart is 4 for 23.

Keep in mind that their PP is 13th and did not play a quality team until they played BC. On the other hand, we have played Michigan, RPI, and Minnesota. So you have to quantify it and BC had a SH last night and tonight I believe. So it's relative, their PP looks good on paper but let's see what else they do when they play better teams.

BC has to take care of the puck better in their zone but it's a learning curve. I was glad to see Doherty playing tonight.

Congrats on that. Maybe you can raise a banner. Nice to finally play a D1 varsity team this season, huh?

You know what they say about those 2 goal leads.. nice comeback BC.

Huskies again.. played well tonight.. When you're up by a couple with under 10 left.. try to cover the lead some instead of over zealous attempt to score # 4.. oh well, we also had the 2 missed breakaways.. not our day; but I like our team effort here. Just as Manson had a bad moment last night.. tonight's goes to Braden Pimm for being extre mely lazy on the PP, then giving up the blue line.. then (in my opinion) single handedly giving up the shortie. Other than that.. good effort & Witt played well. Pimm, not so much. learn, learn.. try again. Nice going NU.. its a long season let's get it together nxt wknd. nice going BC, nice bounce back.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I went to both games this weekend, had great seats and the bottom line is rather unfortunately the same result different year. They generally always play BC hard, but just can't win, and so it goes.

Roy, had no points in the 2 games and really looked lost a lost in fact he is the reason we lost tonight as he completely stopped skating in 2nd OT shift and let the eventual goal scorer, skate bye while he was standing still. I have it on my phone. He was man handled, and looked very average and not nearly NHL caliber this weekend. He looked too small and this weekend was huge liability as he gets back on D wore than Abdul-Jabbar used to late in his career. LOL!

We are going to win some games and the team is a bit better than expected. The issue is goaltending is that is a B+, the Offence is and A- the Coaching is a C- or D+ and the Defense is a F, and those grades together don't add up to much!

So,don't expect Beanpot this year, I say 14 to 16 wins is possible and that's a big improvement and we should be happy with that improvement, but they are not deserving of the top 20 rank, they had no less than 20 or 30 odd man rushes in the 2 games and the tying goal that Witt let up to Johnny Hockey, well my grandmother could have stopped it, granted she played hockey and was from Halifax NS, but she used to put he pads on for me until she was nearly 70 and she would have stopped it.

Otherwise, it was a great time, very exciting, nearly a sell out and the fans were absolutelly terrific tonight! .. and truthfully Clay made tons of great saves all night, we also had 2 breaks but they were by guys without any offensive talent an they put those shots right on the blocker and in the middle of the chest of the BC goalie, each player covered 50 or 70 feet of ice without so much as a deke.

Is Johnny G always that much of a dive artist? He wasn't too bad tonight but last night was despicable.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Not really. I skate each week and it doesn't take much to go down. I can stick check and poke check and bump and I can go down easy or the guy I'm covering. When I went to the doctor the other day, I was weighed at 180 at 5' 6" or 5' 7 " and JG only weighs 160. I have stood next to him at banquets and believe me he is not that big when you stand next to him. So if some dude bumps and pushes, or whatever, it can happen, especially at the speed he generates you can lose your balance or edge quite easy when someone is on you hard.

Ah Christ, here we go. NU fans going with the "your best player hacks and/or dives" right out of the Fanboy Handbook after a sweep.

I thought NU was strong and tough to play against for BC this weekend. They're going to win some games.

Roy had an assist tonight on Szmatula's goal. He stole the puck and set him up beautifully. You are right, that he was manhandled all weekend and the refs looked the other way. I'm not at all sure that he's completely healthy.

OTOH, if Johnny Goo fell down the nearest NU player was in real danger of drawing two minutes. Goo's goal looked like it was meant to be a centering pass. With all the talent BC has, they really don't need that kind of puck luck.:(

You are right about the breakaway opportunities, especially Reed's I suspect that he didn't realize that he had as much time to deke as he did. He had time to text Roy to ask him what to do!

It's notable that Szmats has 13 points and has made the scoresheet in every game so far. Good thing JM forced him to honor his LOI. Anybody know the NU record for consecutive games with at least one point?

Props to Jerry Keefe for finding Tanner Pond. Stats 0f 20-21-41 over three seasons in the USHL give no clue as to how well this kid can play. He's a role player tight now, centering the fourth line. If he keeps developing, he'll play a much bigger role by the time he's an upperclassman.

He knew what he was doing the whole time. Definitely not a centering pass. He's so quick on wraparounds (even without a long reach) goalies are paranoid and leave the post early to get over to the other side. He exploited it tonight.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Refs looked the other way, eh? How many PPs did you want tonight? 10? 12? I didn't notice a single incident where a blatant penalty went uncalled involving roy. He had an off weekend, it happens.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

You're on to something here. For the fifth consecutive Friday, no goals were scored from the corners or beyond the red line. :)

This loss is on you buddy. You have been spouting this nonsense week after week and finally put the Hex on Witt. Hope you are happy now.

Last I checked you were the one coming into an NU thread talking about "raising a banner" and whatnot. If you don't want to get trolled then don't troll. The fact remains that NU lost this game tonight. BC did not win it. Friday was a 1 goal loss with an empty netter. This game was a straight 1 goal loss. BC is not some dominate team and none of the BC fans should have the gumption to come in here thinking you've dominated anything.

This loss is on the coaches for not coaching. Idiotic by the bench in not playing with a more traditional two man points on the PP when up 2 goals when all night long you have been giving up odd man rushes with just the one man on the point. I do not mind the 5 forwards, its necessary with the dmen we have, but not at that point in the game.

Interested to see how they bounce back against UML.
