Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Its Nick with usual rant before our series.. still keeps harping back to NCAA, violation blah blah even though BC landed Gaudreau precisely because of Cronin's 'textgate' departure.. & of course he himself is no fan of Johnny hockey :)

..pls ignore him.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

In regards to the ECAC refs, I plan on accosting and berating Mr. Roby in the luxury suite at Matthews on Saturday night and then writing some letters to the President, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus about it on Monday morning when he laughs at me.

Why would you think that you will be admitted to the luxury suite?? The original plan was to grant open access to the room and to the bar. Then we realized that we would be allowing fans, and even students, from places like BC and bu to come in, pollute themselves and to spoil the family atmosphere. No, no, we can't have that!

If your need to stir up a conflict continues to dictate your boorish behavior and comments, please feel free to email P.Roby@NEU.edu.

You deserve each other.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

After you've been posting for five years (and are from Sharon;)), you are a known quantity.
You should be allowed in if you are a season ticket holder or contribute a a certain amount to the program. If you have trouble gaining admisson ( or think that you may) IM me so that I can try to bring you in as a guest.

BTW, are you active on DHD?

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Hello everyone,

I am a Coventry Blaze (UK) hockey fan and am wondering if anybody has a Ryan Ginand Northeastern University Huskies game worn hockey jersey that they would be willing to sell? If so please contact me - craig_s96@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Great road test & national stage tonight.. come out strong team, play your best. No more slow starts. 2pts or better this wknd.. G'luck Huskies!

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Demko in net tonight for BC, as expected. Billett will likely be between the pipes at Matthews tomorrow. No word on the NU goalie, though I'd expect Witt tonight (and hopefully tomorrow too). I unfortunately cannot make the game tonight, and likely won't get the pleasure to watch on TV. Looking forward to hearing a recap from those there/watching.

Side note- congrats to Kevin Roy on being named the National D1 Player of the Month!

Go NU!

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Madigan changed up the lines a bit tonight, flipping ZAR and Pimm onto Lines 1 and 2 respectively. Kind of interesting considering how well things have been going.

Where is the line information published before the game?

Pimm and KRoy lead the team in shots each and every game. I guess the thought process is that you split that among two lines you'll have 2 productive lines. Hopefully that's right.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Here's my thoughts on tonight's game:

Defense looks slow. They are getting caught flat footed and are giving up breakaways like its their job. And its everyone. There's no strong point at the point. Hopefully it's just BC being faster than the teams we've played and we just need to adjust. Hopefully.

Manson is a disaster. He's dirty, in a bad way. He may be the flattest footed of the Dmen. He gave up a stupid penalty at the boards when all he saw was numbers, thought about it, and still drille the guy into the boards, in the 2nd that directly led to a PPG.

Practices should only cover PK. Its all we'll do in HEA. We lead the conference in penalties(I wonder if you take out all the 10 mins the Ferierros gave us if we're lower). The good news is that our PK is actually good. The bad news is that we're close to spending half the game there.

You can clearly see the skill difference between the teams. But its nothing hustle can't overcome. Are we the bottom of HEA? No. Are we the top? No. Would we make the playoffs if this was HEA in 2010? Yes.

The good news.

Clay Witt is the starting goalie on this team. He's won the job in my eyes. I don't want to see DRoy out there for any game against the top half of the conference.

The one clear thing that Madigan has done with this team so far... Conditioning. We play our best in the last 10 minutes of the game. This now is the 3rd game in a row where the other team is absolutely gassed by the end.

This team has an image. We know it. And its only a matter of time until the rest of the conference does too. We are everything that makes NU NU. This is a hard working, tough, no frills team. We'll get in your face, and we're not afraid to start the fight. Scrappy hard nosed team.

...Just got to stay out of the box while doing it.

Overall this was a good loss. Yes, a tie is better. Yes, you always want to win. But this was a learning loss. We learned that we can hang with a top team in the nation. We learned that Hockey East is much faster than the crap we played. We learned that Witt is our #1.

I'm not happy, but I'm not going to bed mad or upset.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

As green as some of our frosh looked during parts of this gm.. not a bad watch, especially for tv. That first penalty by Josh Manson, resulting in the first Eagle goal for the 1-1 was useless & unnecessary. Other than that.. let's try again tomorrow.. nice effort on the road team, way to hang in. Oh.. & I think we have a starting goaltender as well. :-)

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Ditto - good loss. Need to re-tool PP a little bit. D got burned multiple times. Stay out of box. Tomorrow night should be great.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Caught most of the game on TV - you guys have a much improved team this year, if tonight is any indication. Good speed in transition, good stickwork and on the boards too. Much more of a team this year, versus one guy last year, in my opinion.

Where is the line information published before the game?

Usually at Twitter GoNUmhockey, often they will post a picture

Benning had a wakeup call tonight, hopefully Gunn can jump in,Benning looked totally outmatched,Yes BC was fast, but not that fast,so happy for Witt,I knew Rawlings was terrible sometimes, but Witt is making Rawlings look horrendous

You're on to something here. For the fifth consecutive Friday, no goals were scored from the corners or beyond the red line. :)

Defense looks slow because it is slow. And the majority of them cannot make a simple pass either. Roy passes better on his backhand under pressure then most of our dmen can do on their forehand
with no pressure. The amount of pucks into skates or out of reach of our forwards is mind boggling. One of them cannot even wrap the puck around the boards!

Manson took one dumb penalty last night. But other teams know he is out there after all the open ice hits he delivered last year. He also double shifts consistently, due to lack of talent on the blue line.

Benning had a tough night, but will get better.

Hustle will not win many games. Skill > Hustle the majority of the time. Really, look at the forwards outside of 15 and 19 we have little to no skill up front. The rest of the guys are grinders who will only score within 4 feet of the net. If they can get the puck there.

I said in another thread that once we got past the weak teams on our schedule, the NHL 94 goals this team was scoring, were going to dry up. They did, as every time they tried to skate off the boards and into the middle for a shot, they either lost the puck or their shots got blocked. Learning lesson.

Witt was good last night and should start again tonight, but he flops, gives up rebounds, and really over commits at times where if the puck goes wide and back to the other side he leaves the whole net open.

Conditioning being better? About the same. Cannot compare it to last season due to them only playing about 6 forwards and 4 dmen by the end of the season due to injuries, that team was gassed. Also, we will look more conditioned when attacking at the end of the game due to being down then sitting back and protecting a lead like BC was last night.

No such thing as a good loss. Well, not entirely true, we did keep them under 7 goals at home for the first time this season. Hopefully at home tonight gives us a bit extra tonight so that come the third period, we are still in the game with a shot at some points. Rather not lose out on all 4 HE points on the weekend, with UML up next.

How to Win the Starting Job and Lose it in a Single Weekend: The Clay Witt Story

Disappointing but not surprising end to tonight's game. Not sure what to take away from tonight, other than penalties continue to hurt this team. Is there a reason the younger Ferriero was out tonight? Glad to see Benning made it back out after a fairly scary hit in the third.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

penalties continue to hurt NU? you were only called for four minors tonight...

now, what did kill you this weekend was your PP. not only by not doing much of anything, but you also gave up some killer shorthanded goals. also, very, very quiet two games for kevin roy. not sure how much of that has to do with BC and how much of it was him simply not playing well.
