Northeastern 2025-26 Part II: Road Show

Split-N

All Hail
The old barn is finally gone and now starts the longest road trip ever. Which doesn't start well, with a disastrous loss at Army. Brave new world.

Welp! Looks like it's going to be a long, cold winter. Dropping like a rock in the NPI.

Brrr! The offense is making ordinary goalies look like all-stars. After the first game win over Holy Cross, the haven’t Scored more than 3 goals in a game (not counting ENs). The team has players with solid scoring histories from the juniors (mostly USHL), but they can’t seem to help each other to convert the grade A opportunities available. It might help if they’d shoot more. The Defense is decent, but if they give up more than two goals, the game is probably lost. Tonight would be an ideal time to score 4 or more.

Not just the paucity of offense. Defenseless is, unfortunately, not an overstatement. The continuing absence of Joachim Lemay has been disastrous but can't be the whole story.

Lemay would help if he can return and go full tilt. In early December, we were told that he was week to week. Apparently, the coaches were misinformed.
Since the break, the first minutes of each game have told us what to expect. Lemay can’t do much about teammate’s missed passes, the lost board battles, or the slow motion approach to retrieving loose pucks. The forwards need to display more speed if they want to play dump and chase. Without it, they are just giving the puck away to their opponents.
We’ve just seen the softest part of the schedule and discovered that we are the softies! Something’s gotta change.

First win at the Whit in several years (!). Nice to see a W after the inexplicable losses at West Point and Burlington. I thought they finally looked like the team we saw at the beginning of the year. A long, steep, uphill climb ahead but at least a step. We'll see how they look Sunday on the first of their "home" road games.

Yeah, it’s been a rough watch so far. The lack of finish is really glaring — plenty of chances, but no killer instinct. You’re right that the defense is holding up reasonably well, but this team just can’t afford to chase games if they fall behind by more than a goal or two. Shooting more and getting traffic in front might be the simplest fix, even if it’s not pretty. Hopefully tonight they finally break through and put together a complete offensive game.

An absolutely hellish end to an absolutely hellish month. Devastating to watch what could easily have been a shutout win turn into another soul-crushing loss. Only thing more depressing is reading the BU thread.

I had no quarrel with the performance last night. (Maybe shoot the puck as time was running down on the OT PP?) While we've had teams with more offensive pop, this team is pretty deep with guys that can play hard hockey. I wish they could play 3x3 until somebody scores.

Ditto. Normally i find myself muttering about the biased officiating after any game against the Comm Ave schools, but despite the loss, had absolutely no issue with officiating. Yes, maybe there should have been something called on Eiserman crashing into Zacher that way, but they let the players decide the game, and i can live with that. Losing in a shootout when the shooter fans on the shot wasn't fun either, but all in all, within the rules, and it was a great night of hockey.

Is there a link to Keefe postgame? Those videos are becoming like fluffy unicorns........

1000% agree. Unlike hoops, officials decide very few hockey games, and that's the way it should be. The Eiserman thing was 50/50 at best and the no-call was totally consistent with the standard set for the game up to that point. FWIW, Billy Jaffee on the telecast also agreed with the no-call. All of that being said, my soul still aches.
