Northeastern 2025-26: After Hours at the Old Barn

I'm wondering where Lemay and Zacher were?
No Perkins either. Assuming all three not available tomorrow. Z was not on the bench. Gutcheck win. Officiating was an absolute Greek tragedy.

When the eff are the observing officials going to put a stop to this?
"Gents, maybe the next game you should probably call that. Its okay you cost NU a game tonight, we are striving to improve each week, so go get em next Friday"........unbelievable.

Per the broadcasters, those players are all nursing injuries. No details were provided, as this kind of information is handled ln a “top secret” manner.
We did see the first games of freshmen, Matt Maltais on the third line, and Grayson Badger as the extra forward. Maltais, from Montreal, had been injured. Badger is from Hyde Park should develop into an effective RW/C.

I don't like to criticize officials (try working even a kid's game sometime) but, instead of embellishing, Hajibi was on the receiving end of a textbook sluefoot, which is universally considered a dirty play. And the missed offside on the first BU goal was textbook obvious. And downright appalling that it was upheld after video review.

Just a bad night for this crew. If they didn't get an earful from the assigned observer in the dressing room, they'll surely be hearing from the league.

This is an Andy Moore appreciation post. What an animal. And Q is very good for a backup, wouldn't be surprised to see him starting elsewhere next year.

How we took 4 of 6 pts vs BU is amazing bcuz we didn't really deserve more then 1 or 2. I'll take it. I was at the BC game number 491 for me. Ugly hit on a Maine player who didn't have the puck. No call. Hit itself was legal high hip check that impacted the body, maybe 3 or 4 feet from the boards to the right of the net. Kid crashed head 1st into the low board absolutely no movement. Prayers

The officials always seem to be looking the other way for ….ahem….certain schools that are within a Comm Ave train ride of NU. Making calls similar to that puts a stop to it

Another appearance by Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on Saturday. Hyde doing his best to make life miserable for the first two periods before the nice Dr. Jekyll returned to restore some semblance of normalcy in the 3rd. (let's not talk about the PP or 3x3). Grateful they were able to steal a point (NPI=48% of a win) on Saturday and four of six for the series.

Of note: Q looked like he could start for many other D1 teams. Rebound control and stickhandling apparently what differentiate him from Zacher. Nice to have depth in the net.

Seriously wish the post game pressers were posted somewhere in their entirety. That said, i really appreciated how Keefe didn't make any excuses about injuries, or playing without the best goalie in the country. Conversely, without being asked, Pando was subtly whining about getting some guys back, and missing players, and that's the reason they didn't dust NU. The BC chat board is filled with crybabies about getting so and so back in the lineup. Newsflash: All the top teams have lost some of their best players to injury, you're no different than anyone else.

For years, love 'em or hate 'em, i used to enjoy watching BU games, just to watch the level of hockey, and at the same time, always intensely disliked BC. Things have changed 180 degrees (from my humble viewpoint anyway). Greg Brown always kind of handles himself with class, and its even easy to like most of his players even when they are #1 in the country. At the same time, in the past few years, Pando seems to have grown to despise NU, never addresses them as a worthy opponent, and even kind of scoffed at the topic of Matthews when asked. BU is quickly becoming a very unlikeable bunch. Seriously hoping their 6-7-1 season continues along the same trajectory........

A BU coach looking down on NU? Shocker. Pandolfo has always struck me as a joyless grouch. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if, from their perspective, competing on level terms with NU feels like a step down. Rather than having to acknowledge that the NU program has taken steps forward in the past 25 years.

At some point the records have to mean something. BU is a talented team but how long can you have a losing record and stay in the top 20 poll?

NU weathered the first half storm as best they could on Saturday. They had to kill several power plays, and their outlet passes from the zone were usually turnovers. But they got that goal back right before the intermission. I liked how they took it to them down the stretch.

I still don't know what this team's ceiling is right now. Are they really a conference top-4 contender or do they regress to the mean? Really good goaltending plus big contributions from freshmen have been major factors. I do think the floor for this team is higher than most thought. They seem better than an 8th place HE team.

He's 5-6 against NU in his tenure and 3 of those wins were OT wins, so we've played them tough. I get we haven't won a tournament game since the Reagan administration, but we've become a very competitive team in Hockey East and in the Beanpot. I wonder if the commitment and then decommitment of Owen Keefe plays a part as well.

My final visit to Matthews over the weekend. Lots of memories over lots of years but there's no denying that the grand old lady is showing her age. She will be missed but her offspring will no doubt prove to be worth the long wait.

Brown looked stronger than I anticipated but the NU defense just shut down most of the prime shooting lanes and Q looked more than up to the task on the prime chances that got through. The one goal he gave up looked like a seeing-eye special, coming from a bad angle.

Lots of road ahead but two wins and an OTL with a backup goalie and minus the top D isn't a bad place to be.

Playing hockey in high school we used to play both South Boston and Latin Academy non-league every year when the Boston City League schools were still playing their home games at Matthews, so most years I got to play at Matthews twice, which was awesome. Great memories and I am very sad to see it go.

Well that was interesting. We really need to find a way to protect our leads late. Lucky to take 2 of 3 tonight but a 5 point weekend is still possible and we would move into 2nd. With a game in hand. They have flashes where the they look great but then breakdowns on the rudimentary stuff. Still could win out at the old barn before the break.
