Northeastern 2022-23: Unfinished Business - Great Expectations

If you like a goalie battle, this was it. Commesso was immense, especially in the early going when NU had several quality looks. Ditto for Levi in the later going. And the young NU defense--without Struble--answered the bell. No doubt a lot of black-and-blue marks this morning from all the blocked shots.

Matthews should be rockin' tonight.

Hats off to Hunter McDonald who blocked 8 shots. NU had 24 total blocks compared to just 11 for BU. I think that was the story of this game. NU sacrificed the body and got in front of everything. Should be another good one tonight.

I love being wrong. Great game. Big props to the defense. We had some rough moments but overall a great effort.

I agree that Levi’s saves don’t necessarily look highlight reel, but he was on point all game. We had some nasty turnovers in the slot and he was up to the task, even making some great pokes himself.

I thought we had some good chances, but not as many as I’d like in the third. Power play still needs to figure something out.

I didn't realize BU had that many shots in the 3d. Still liked the NU defense. As for Hunter McDonald, I like his game and loved two things last night: the blocked shots and he stayed out of the penalty box.

Huge crowd got a great show. Would have been nice to have won such an entertaining game. Fontaine, Colangelo and McDonough score. Levi was his usual self. No one to hang goats horns on. Fensore was huge for BU. Many standouts for the Terriers too. NU had the bad break of a freshman forward being caught back on a 3 on 1 in OT.

Question for you NU peeps - when did that huge center ice scoreboard get installed? What is it pre-pandemic? I swear is saw it before last night but someone who goes to as many away games as me didn’t recall it. So of course now I’m questioning my sanity. Heh. And thank you for having it show the score and penalties during the game, unlike UMass, where it’s just a monitor and you have to look at the side scoreboards for that info.

Yes, pre-pandemic (2018 IIRC). The roof had to be reinforced before it could be hung. Not sure if it was the brainchild of then-AD Jeff Konya but it was installed during his tenure and dubbed the Konyatron until he decamped to San Jose State.

Not a perfect weekend but taking four of six standings points is nothing to sneeze at. More importantly, many of us--me included--were questioning this team's spine after last weekend's dismal performance vs BC and thought they might get bulldozed by the BU blitzkrieg. But credit where it's due. They went toe-to-toe with BU all weekend and thought they dominated the OT. From my ESPN+ vantage point, it was indeed a great show--the kind that makes people want to come back.

The Beanpot first round should be awesome.

I was thinking the same thing, 4 pretty good and pretty even teams going into it. Assuming teams continue to play well it will be goalies and match ups to decide the winner.

Some gaping holes to fill in our defense against the #1 offense in the country. Allowing way to many good chances on Levi who, despite a 41 save shutout Friday, may be mean reverting a little this season. Maybe Struble should have sat an extra game. For such a hyped prospect I was expecting more from him by his senior season.

Is there really know way to watch this thing tomorrow?

The game is on. Reportedly moved to Ford Ice Center, the Pred's practice facility. Puck drop moved up to 6:30 p.m.

Bridgestone arena apparently is a mess. Today's Preds game vs Colorado is cancelled. Tomorrow's scheduled game vs Columbus in jeopardy.

A new level of hockey weirdness.

Update: Puck drop now at 8:15 EST at the Ford Ice Center, Bellevue. A gussied-up version of the old JAR in Watertown.

I think all the business is going unfinished this year. We’ll be very lucky to make playoffs this year.

Can’t win against a good team unless levi is fire and this season has been a bit of a return from the moon.

blowing leads with late penalties is a joke.
