John Picking (local kid) to NU.

Nice pickup. It's been a long time since we had a player from Wellesley. He's the top scorer on a very strong Jr. Bruins Premier League team. For some reason, the players from this program seem to take to the D1 college game much faster than most. If you google him, you will find several videos of his highlights. Appears to have pretty good wheels and stick skills. Might help with the PK.

By my count NU is set to return 25 players from this year's roster next year and now has 7 incoming players. Are y'all expecting a bunch of early departures, a bunch of cuts, small number of both, or a massive roster next season?

How thoughtful of you to point that out.
I expect that there are 3 or 4 roster players who have been around for a while yet rarely, if ever, touch the ice. If they were to vanish, few would notice. There may be a deferral or two, and the possibility exists that an underclassman will turn pro or that an under-utilized/disappointed freshman will be encouraged to leave. It's a bit of a juggling act as you know from watching DQ & Co. culling his flock each year.

Making the trip to Matthews tomorrow. Can anyone provide insight on directions, parking, places to eat and drink, etc?

The Camden parking lot across the RR tracks from Matthews is the best place to park and is free. Entrance to the Camden lot is through the entrance to the Columbus parking garage, located directly across from 716 Columbus Ave. (look for the NUPD HQ sign on the front of the bldg). Bear right (toward the lot) instead of going straight ahead (into the garage). The entrance attendant usually waves everyone right through to the lot but it you're challenged, just tell him/her that you're going to the hockey game at Matthews. Access to the arena is via a footbridge over the railroad tracks at the far end of the Camden lot.

Eateries are plentiful along Huntington and Mass. Aves., within a block of Matthews. Best overall (IMO) is probably Uno's on Huntington. Hope you enjoy yourself (to a point).

Thanks! I'm hoping we really enjoy ourselves! ;)

Kevin is a big academic guy and I don't believe he's graduated yet, so I don't think there's much risk of him leaving. I'm more interested to see whether he leaves for Anaheim in March or stays until April and signs as a UFA over the summer. That's the only legitimate question regarding his future, and I'd imagine having Manson over there will help swing his decision for or against them.

He was presumably expected to be out for a while, considering they gave ZAR an A before his first missed game. But I agree with what was said before, I personally don't care whether he came back for a meaningless game against one of the few teams more pitiful than us.

I doubt Darou will RS, they probably need every dollar they can get this offseason, especially if Derick stays and wastes a scholarship that we could have used somewhere else. I feel like that situation is something to do with why Theut didn't RS last year even though he never played, he could create a logjam when Primeau is here and we're presumably looking for a roster spot for the next goalie of the future.

Derek Roy will not be back next year

Do you have any insight on which Freshman? Also, has Madigan been extended yet?

It appears that Madigan was given an extension this past summer. Roby did the same thing as Mark Hollis did at Michigan State giving Coach Anastos an extension going into the final year of his original contract and probably regretting it now. Actually, Roby probably doesn't regret it at all.

Good, I know that is not the popular opinion right now, I still think that he will turn this around.

Huskies looked good to me tonite. Deserved to win the game, I guess we take the tie.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Huskies almost pull off the W.. (actually with a bit of discipline we def could have pulled it off)..
Q showing why they have lost just 1 gm all season. Take the tie. Quality opponent.. & came back to even things up.
That call in OT with a minute left was pretty unwarranted. Well, ..New Year.. let's get something going here team!.. g'luck in NY.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Signs of life continue.

But marginal penalties in the waning minutes of one-goal games continue to haunt these dogs. The late call tonight was eerily similar to the one that put them down 6 on 4 with a minute to go in Belfast in that it was one of those that was not clear-cut and probably could have been let go. That being said, the Too Many Men penalty with 3.5 mins left was blatant and totally inexcusable.

Gotta be honest...1st time in the 10 years since I've been an NU fan as a student and then an alum, I followed the basketball game more closely than the hockey game. Seemed like a good tie against a very good team, where was Roy? Not a surprise that we've started playing well in January. It's certainly our month.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

John Picking who is a family friend and skated between my younger and older sons on the WHS, Advantage and SS Kings team for a year has selected NU, the younger brother is also on the WHS team this year. He will be a fine addition to the team, he isn’t a NHL draft cal. player and that may be a good thing! I know the family and even attended a meet and greet a few years back when the PENS were in town to meet Joe Vitale who has always promoted NU as a great place to play college. Let's face it, we usually lose the local tallent, nice to see this one sign, BTW John is also a top student and so smart with puck! However I think Madigan has no idea how to coach a NHL quality player. The recent guys who have made it during his tenure had fathers that were in the NHL that guided them far more than JM. The program is in big trouble its been a disaster season and one of the worst in school history so far. Yet it seems a lot of you are sugar coating and seeing a ½ full glass. Newsflash the f ing glass is ½ empty and on the way to a talent drought of epic proportions . We don't have a Hockey East win and it's January 4th, given he talent on the team and despite recent ties this is totally unacceptable !

I have my ear on the tracks and the blow up is on its way. Thank God!

always enjoy your posts Rossi.. there is truth to them.
I for one do not have any rose colored glasses far as NU hockey at this stage. My feelings about Madigan & Co are well known. However.. when you have what we have (with the injuries, coaching issues & all) and the team played the second ranked team the way they did.. (coming from behind).. then I have to call it how i see it. Too bad we did not get the W.. but it was a good effort much like the BC series. Hopefully this team can get back on track.
Blow up or no blow up.. i'd be very happy if NU admin shook things up with the hockey, no doubt. Long overdue.
