Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

After the first two games it became clear that there is a scoring problem - Szmatula’s transfer and K. Roy’s slow start again this year have not helped. After the Bentley losses, it became obvious that there is a goalie problem. After D. Roy was given the start at Minnesota, add a coaching problem.

Right now - this team is in disarray. Maybe Ruck can save the team and the coach’s fifth season.

Now that is a nice save.. thanks for posting.
& God help us.

If we found a real goalie tonight, the loss was a valuable exercise in discovery. Sooner or later we'll face a mere mortal in net.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

First, the bright side, Ruck looked pretty good and he did have the highlight reel save on the big empty net, so I really believe from watching the stream that he is more athletic and solid from a positioning perspective in the net, hopefully he can keep things close. Do you wan the bad news too? The D is spotty and we all know that coming in, but the O can't score goals and that, I was not expecting. To make matters worse, KR has 1 point in 4 games and is looking like a bit of a puck hog, which could be an issue. He certainly does not look like the Hobey lock that I was hoping for. Iif you add in the mediocre at best coaching of Madigan and his bench cronies, this is what you get. Bentley is not a good team and the Gophers are not a great team either, so I sure hope they can fix it and somehow get a split tonight. If disappointment were people I would be China. They seem actually so much worse than I had anticipated. Going to UCONN v BU tonight.

Probably shouldn't dis teams. living in the past. D1 hockey is now all about parity. almost anyone can beat anybody every night. The players all come from basically the same leagues, all know one another and their games. The talent is far to evenly dispersed. CC could have easily beaten BC last night. Norhteastern could lose 20....or not.

I feel pretty good that we found a goalie. I like what I saw.

Any chance we can find a coach? You know, one who plays players within a given game based upon how well (or poorly) they are playing within that particular game?

Quinn sat MacLeod for the second half of the Championship Game (even though he was the starter) when it was clear that he wasn't having a good game. BU played much better without him. Quinn had the expertise and guts to sit a draft-pick stud to try to win a game.

JM? He has the expertise and guts to sit fourth-line O and third-line D based on a single bad pass, while the pre-ordained "studs" stinking up the place and taking the horrible penalties just keep on digging the whole deeper. It is painful to watch.

And how about some changes to the O tonight? Please give us Rosenthal and Pond for some grit and sit the finesse guys, Gaudette and Griffin. Please give us at least that. Why have those two been anointed untouchables? So sad.

FYI, NU at Minnesota is listed for a 9 p.m. (EST) start on Fox College Sports (FCS) Atlantic. It's channel 300 on Verizon FiOS. Don't know about other carriers.

.. I feel it & feel it with you. Right on.

Also.. did he (JM) miss something when (besides last night) ..where Roy gave up 3 goals on 4 shots.. had already given up 3 goals on 5 shots to Bentley last wknd. Had two terrible outings under his belt.. Is this guy for real?!.. D1 HC.. Roby are you kidding us..! what a joke..

You got your wish. Pond at C3, Rosenthal at C4, in for Hedges and Collier. Ruck in net. Other lines same

Yes, excited for those guys. They aren't the smoothest players, but they give their all and are fun to watch. I hope they do well. And we need a change. Go Dogs!

So true. Excited about Ruck. He showed athleticism and confidence. Now, he has to show consistency, which is the rarest goalie attribute.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Big troubles. Did anyone listen to Madigan's "deer in the headlights" interview between the 1st and 2nd period of tonight’s game recorded prior to the game. We are so screwed. I saw BU and UCONN tonight and I have seen NU 2x, once v Colgate and once v Bentley, and in my onion, they need to play more physical to win. However, part of being a coach is to prepare a team for the start of the season not needing 6, 7 or 8 games to get warmed up. Not figuring stuff out in the off season is a reflection of the coaching not the team. Madigan squads are never ready at the whistle. I think we can win some games, but if like last year it is mid November before we figure it out the season will be quite lost, yet once again.

after shaky start.. least they're putting in much better effort tonight.. (new goalie included)
..making a gm of it.

was a big hole to dig out of.. still hoping for a split ..lot of hockey left to be played.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Agree with the color guys.. best period of the yr thus far for NU.
End of two.. 4-3 Minny.

Ruck with a great save on breakaway at end of 2nd period.. then caps it off with super save on ensuing penalty shot awarded.. keeps gm within reach. Not bad for first start. Let's go guys!..

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

great gm by the Minny tender (Schierhorn).. especially in the 3rd preserving the 4-3 final for Minny. NU played another good period.
Far as NU .. like the intensity guys!.. hopefully we can bring it to Hockey East.. we'll need it..
