It's not acceptance, I wrote a post on DHD scathing them earlier, but that's neither here nor there. It's that what you're saying defies common sense. Matt Benning is at a completely different defensive level than the guys who aren't playing PK right now. It isn't even close. What you're saying is the defensive equivalent of "Kevin Roy hasn't scored on the power play, we should take him off the PP and put someone else there instead." It has some basis in fact then ignores all logic in an attempt to fix it.

rough going (thus far).. again tonight. kudos to the Falcons..
opponent displaying what good goaltending looks like (both nights). Coaching staff got work cut out.

Your move.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

"D. Roy is not the problem. The problem is the other NU player who has been on the ice for all 4 of the opponent goals this year. Coincidence? Not. He can't move his feet. Watch the video of the games. It's much clearer on the video than in person. Until he is replaced on PK and PP, we will be a bad team."

Now that it is up to 8 for 8, your point is even more interesting. Perhaps Minnesota fans next week ought to be more excited every time Benning steps on the ice.

After the first loss to Bentley I would like to have seen Ruck get a start in a non-conference game. After yet another loss to Bentley, I still feel that way. And since he replaced D. Roy in the third period, maybe he is a step closer.

Perhaps D. Roy is not the problem, but I don’t think he is the solution either. Despite the Benning factor, whatever it means or doesn’t mean, I would like to see if Ruck has Div. I skills.

This weekend was a complete embarrassment and totally unacceptable. Question is, are any of the alumni, boosters, fans or students going to say anything to Madigan, Roby or anyone else in the Administration? I'm not holding my breath....

Saying anything to Peter Roby or anyone in the upper echelons of the administration is like talking to a wall.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Roby was in attendance for Friday's game against Bentley.

Roby does not care and really neither does anyone of marginal importance in the administration or in the alumni organization. This isn’t BU or BC. If the stands were filled like they are at BU Roby might care a little bit, but not a lot.

The fact is that there is simply no fire for hockey at NU aside from perhaps us morons on this Forum. We all think of the program in more lofty perceptions that it actually is and it generally deserves to be exactly where it is from a coaching, talent and recruiting perspective.

That said, I still believe that the program had it’s best shot in history for movement to be a contender under Cronin. Let’s face it year in and year out it’s pretty much built to be a .500 squad, but don’t let 2 losses with Bentley make you think that can’t happen this year. They will figure some stuff out but if anyone thought they were going to be a top program or contend for anything other than 5th to 7th place I would say you were crazy. They don't have the depth on D and they don't have the G this year. The O which has put up monster shot numbers this year will eventually start to click.

I am happy with 4 players on the active rosters in the NHL, 1st time ever! The division is more competitive than ever and it is what it is.

Madigan has enough rope that it would take a near mutiny in the administration to have him removed. In 4 seasons he is .456, .259, .550 and .500, that would get you fired at Michigan, Notre Dame, BC or BU. Today, those kind of results might even get you fired at a place like Quinnipiac and that’s the issue with NU hockey in a nut shell.

..always some good points Rossi.. (and ouch!). What a fiasco.. thanks Madigan. Another season starting DOA.. hope in my lifetime they can figure this thing out again.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Vitale did a good job of starting a fight with Kevan Miller and then getting his azz kicked Saturday night.

well.. going six+ yrs now, he's been earning his time.. and paycheck.. in the nhl. not bad. he is doing just fine.

Question for curiosity sake: are you all here so convinced Ruck is a better player than Theut? I'm not. Jake is larger and had better numbers in juniors, albeit in a 'lesser' league. And he's been #2 on the line chart all four games this year. Why would Madigan not try the guy he's seen in practice for a year, and instead go with the unknown rookie?

For me, the issue is you need a very good goaltender to accomplish anything significant in college hockey. After the weekend disaster against Bentley, maybe D. Roy is not that guy. Plus, after next weekend’s games, the Huskies play 9 straight HE games that are more important.

As for Theut, he has yet to play and Madigan chose not to play him at all last year. That leaves Ruck who did play on Saturday when Roy was pulled. Also, as you noted, Ruck previously played at a higher level -- in the USHL. How good is Ruck? Time will tell. I think it’s better to have his first start in a non-conference game even one this early in the season.

I am looking at it this way, we lose tonight, you have to change something and the goalie is the quickest solution. However, not scoring on 40+ shot nights is a terrible way to lose and changing the goalie may not help us. We could be 1 and 5 before you blink, even though these Gophers are 0-3 they are the hands down favorites both nights at home then we have VT and they are never a cake walk, even at the barn. Thoughts?

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

we have got to try & least come home with a split.
take it a gm at a time.. compete hard tonight.. go from there.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

First line and D will break through tonight for some goals. Time for a big win.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Jim we need a goalie

They say that you need to build from the goal out. Goaltending was the biggest question of the year coming in and is proving to be a major problem. Time to give Ruck or Theut a chance to start.
