Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Last year there were three halts per period. I only noticed one halt per period on Saturday night, near the middle of the period. Perhaps some kind of compromise was reached. I can live with that.

I agree with this. It sucks for the 90 seconds it happens then it's out of mind

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

I saw over in the Bentley thread that Saturday's game is sold out so heads up to anyone who was planning on making the trip and buying a ticket there. They're a team we should handle but a packed house and a questionable ice sheet could certainly provide a test.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Questionable ice sheet? It's a disgrace. In certain conditions you literally can't see thru the glass, it fogs up. I watched Army play there in an Atlantic play off game and it was so bad, Army coach offered to movie series to West Point, which they of course refused.
Total joke and it is a garbage MDC rink that was built to open up after Thanksgiving. Should be torn down

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

I was curious if anybody knew anything about Thuet? Is he the backup, and is he any good? I haven't heard much about him. Big kid.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

I was under the impression he was the perennial third goalie who technically knew how to play if it ever came down to it. Not sure how or why he's ahead of Ruck, but if he plays in Minnesota, especially with certain members of our defense, it might be a massacre.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Bentley has sold out tomorrow. Going to be a great test for the team, first taste of a hostile environment this year

Despite controlling large parts of gm thus far.. Falcons been very opportunistic backed by decent goaltending. Three Huskies standing around on first Bentley goal. Roy playing most selfish I've seen him in a while. Then PK breakdown.. down by couple now with 2nd period almost done. Not pretty.. nice job Bentley thus far.. Wake up Huskies!

Terrible execution or lack thereof.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

That was the most undeserved win I have ever seen. But, the only state that counts was ours tonight.

Is Roy that fast on the wings, or are we that slow? He passed our defense like they were standing still.

Actually the ones that were standing still were our players in front of our net on your first goal (#dontoverlookanyopponent). We don't give up something like that.. & it's still salvageable next period on..

We got what we deserved. Congrats on the W.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Time to consider giving a Ruck a chance to start tomorrow and see what this recruit can do. Derick Roy in goal does not instill confidence.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

That was one of the strangest games I've ever watched. NU outshot Bentley by 40 and still lost. On the season NU has out-shot their opponents by 66 shots and have scored 4 and given up 4. I actually thought NU played better in the 1st and 2nd period; despite not scoring it seemed like the entire periods were spent in Bentley's defensive zones. Both Roy's need to wake up.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

..more than any home crowd.. the 'hostile environment' will be that rink's ice..

Cold night tonight so they should be able to keep the ice in decent shape. If you're going, pray that they run the stand heaters or you'll freeze your butt off! Best view I've found are the last two rows of the bleachers unless they've replaced most of the glass.

D. Roy is not the problem. The problem is the other NU player who has been on the ice for all 4 of the opponent goals this year. Coincidence? Not. He can't move his feet. Watch the video of the games. It's much clearer on the video than in person. Until he is replaced on PK and PP, we will be a bad team.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

For everybody else who is going to read that and have no idea who was on the ice for all 4 goals, I'll save you the time of looking it up like I had to. The answer is Matt Benning.

And in actual response, it's not exactly a big surprise that Matt Benning has been on the ice for all four goals. Considering we've given up a goal to Colgate's top line and three to the NCAA's leading active goal scorer. Our best defenseman plays against the other team's best players. Our best defenseman plays the most minutes on the team. Neither of those facts are exactly shocking. Who do you suggest we use in his place on the PK? Your options are Cockerill and Schechter among the guys who currently dress, and I can't imagine you really think Garrett Cockerill is a better penalty killer than Matt Benning. He's going to have some goals against, but the other lines are too, and replacing him with literally anybody else is going to result in more goals against, not less.

Two other areas of concern--

1) The first line: Although featuring a presumed Hobey Baker finalist, this unit just isn't producing. In fact, it's almost invisible. There was some comment on this last week and, indeed, ZAR replaced McMurtry. No matter, they still looked lost.

2) Finiishing: The ice surface is ~200 feet long. Offensively, NU seems to have the first 175 feet down cold. It's the last 25 feet that's galling. The guys can't seem to deal well with defenses that like to clog the slot and, as a result, too many shots on goal are either directly into the goalie's pads or or get slowed down by the defense. Bottom line: Four goals on 94 shots isn't going to cut it.

Yes, please try anybody and everybody. Kids with quicker feet and a better stick may do better. Or, we can keep losing to powerhouses like Bentley. Glad you've reached the stage of acceptance. I'm still in the anger stage. I've got a way to go.
