Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

That's one hell of a virus you have there. I'd get to scanning your computer/phone ASAP. Maybe buy some anti-virus software to go with your new suit.

I scanned and scanned but I think the virus doveaway from it. I'll try again later.

You sound like a whiny baby. You make our fan base look bad. UMD came into our territory and man handled the gophers. I am thankful for the tie! The shootout win means nothing to me.

Given how the Gophers manhandled the Bulldogs in the shootout I can imagine how it means nothing to you.

BTW - and to be clear - all of Minnesota is Gopher territory.

Gopher fans complaining about another team getting all the calls? I swear this place is always good for entertainment.

You might want to rethink and rephrase this assertion. They profit $4+mm per year which can't hinge on a few games overall.

Sorry I had meant 22 home games, I was on my 26th beer. That only leaves two away non-conference series on their schedule. The administration told WCHA teams when the league disbanded that they would consider still playing them but the gophs would get 2 home series to 1 away. Needless to say that aggravated a lot of small schools who need the revenue from playing at home. This especially irked the teams like UMD and SCSU who have very good programs and fill the seats when they come to town. It was a show of disrespect for the team and an overlook of the smaller university's finances. At the schools that play D-II in all other sports, men's hockey is the only program that generates revenue. By not trading off home series that takes out one sell out game a year, which generates approximately enough money for skates for the team that year.

Plus all the whining and complaining about a "win" is fabulous.

20 home games. It's always been 20 games that the administration requires, I believe.

And the Gophers have agreed to give up two of those to play in the North Star College Cup annually. This season they will play 20 games at Mariucci/TCF Bank because they hosted the Ice Breaker, but moving forward it will be only 18 games at Mariucci.

And if I'm not mistaken, the teams are splitting this revenue, correct? Weekend gate of 30,000 at higher ticket prices. Who would do better with a home gate?

I'm not sure what the split is. Maybe it is an even split and that's why SCSU and UMD agreed to it. If it is a 25% split for all teams involved then I think it is a great solution. I know for a fact that before this tourney was they were going to have 2 home to 1 away. Regular season gates are not a 50/50 split. The away team usually gets a bit more than what it costs them to be there.

And after the WCHA split I believe the gophers increased the home games by two per year. I could be wrong on that though. I left Duluth about the time that scheduling for this season was taking place. Now when I get a chance to see the guys I still know that are with the team, finances are never brought up.
