North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

If this tourney survives ten years, we would probably have to divide # of tourney wins by appearances to make any accurate comparions on tourney success.
Correct. For example, if over twelve years the Gophers had won it five times and the Huskies had won it four times in nine appearances, the Huskies would actually have a better tournament record. You wouldn't be able to tell that just by looking at the trophy. An uninformed observer would assume the Gophers were the better tournament team based on the trophy alone.

In the end, the reality probably matters little to uninformed observers though. If they they don't know enough to understand that all the teams except the Gophers rotate out despite the outcome of games, then do their opinions really matter?

I like it! mostly because of the history behind the Minnesota Territory. Plus then sad UND fans who aren't invited to this thing would be appeased.

Haven't even had a single game yet and already begging UND to join so this sham of a tournament isn't a financial disaster.

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Does this mean Grand Forks would be annexed into the State of Minnesota? Not so sure I like that idea :p
Yeah, but if meth becomes legalized, imagine the money that area would bring into the Twin Cities.

Now THAT is funny right there. On a side note: I sure wish your squad was more relevant this year. We miss you.:o

We would but it is very costly to clean up all the puke, holes in the walls (after being punched) and extra crowd control.

True. As of now Barney Fife could handle the crowds that will be at these games. UND would add a touch of prestige to the tournament, but I can see why you'd be opposed to that.

It shouldn't matter, but as I'm sure you'd agree, it's still annoying having to listen to uninformed fans bragging about things they have no right to brag about. Oh well.

No doubt. No argument there. Just take consolation in the fact that anyone who has any idea about what they are talking about will understand :)

Oh Barney...he'll have his hands full with me.

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

tDogs and Gophers have good bands, I'd be pleased if they were there(even though I don't believe I will attend). No offense, but Kato's band has been terrible when I've heard them play in Kato. Never seen a band in Cloud town. Do they even have one or will they just ask that Welcome to the Jungle be piped in before a faceoff late in the game to get the Husky faithful all jacked up?

Just found out the details and the Minnesota pep band WILL be at both games this weekend!! I'll be riffing and rousering it up all night long! And if you hear someone yelling loud and vulgar obscenities and that idiotic and incompetant midget Marco Hunt, that's me! :D

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Another question, who refs and who decides what team is the home team in what match ups?

as it's technically a neutral site game, what is the rule that makes it a gopher home game?

It makes about as much sense to me as it does to you, but I verified at the start of the season that these will be counted as Gopher home games for Pairwise purposes.

I guess they are classifying the games as Gopher home games because of the close proximity, even though the size of the ice sheet is different, etc..

Still leaves some questions, to be honest... what counts as the "Metropolitan area" for UMD/SCSO/Kato? And what counts as being "included in the season ticket package"? Only being automatic (like it is for MN and apparently 'Kato) or does having it not automatically included, but being given the option to have it included before general public ticket sales (like UMD and SCSU)? Can the X count as a home game for MN against SCSU but Neutral against 'Kato (since both have the game as part of the season ticket package)? And, if the number of "season" ticket packages sold through Mankato and the options exercised by UMD/SCSU exceed the number of MN season ticket holders, what then? (No, I don't know that this is the case, but I think it's fair to assume that the vast majority of the non-MN fans will be cheering for SCSU on Friday and whichever team MN plays on Saturday)

As an additional question, what about the B1G conference tournament. Yes, the arena is in the "metropolitan area" for MN, but it certainly isn't part of the season ticket package...

Some good clarification, but still situations that are unclear. Given the clarity and openness that the hockey committee generally operates under, I hope they can issue a little more clarification.

Yeah, it's confusing as heck to me.
