North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

Never seen a band in Cloud town. Do they even have one or will they just ask that Welcome to the Jungle be piped in before a faceoff late in the game to get the Husky faithful all jacked up?

I hope so. Rather have that than 20 dweebs butchering "Smoke on the Water" with their tubas.

Kato's has been bad....real bad. They brought the band back this year and it's getting better. Still not great, but certainly getting better.

I'm convinced the reason for the brawl Saturday night was that the 2 teams had to listen to our band play the anthem before the game.

Speaking of that brawl, who is out for MSU on Friday? UMD played well in a split against Denver last week. Thinking the early game could be entertaining. Is MSU a quick team this year? Looking forward to a fun weekend of college hockey.

As it stands right now, it's Blueger and Stepan out. Pretty big blow to the offense. It's a relatively quick team this year. Margonari and McInnis are probably two of the guys that can fly the most. If the Blueger and Stepan DQs stand, we'll probably see MSU try to slow it down a bit and stay at home a bit more. At least that would be my first thought.

Hahaha....they have gotten better this year. I'll give them credit for the massive improvement.

They didn't. It was embarrassing. The two teams who claim to have the best and largest followings in college hockey and they didn't even open the upper level. I hope they do better this year, but I fear they won't. Everyone complains about ticket prices, but I was able to afford them for that regional as a poor college student(at the time) and I already have my tickets for this years regional as well.

No, they didn't open the upper level for that regional.
Presales cost around $90 for that game, and you had to buy a ticket to the session the day before as well jacking the total cost up to about $200 after all the fees. I can think off the top of my head of 3 different people I know who were planning on going to that regional until they learned how much it cost. And I'm a real misanthrope who doesn't know very many people.

EDIT: My mistake, I was thinking about the cost for 2 people, which is what I bought. Price for a single ticket was $90 for the session, close to $100 after fees.

Tix are $53 a day minimum? That's what I found.
Tickets are being sold as session passes only, correct? (meaning 1 ticket per day)

I haven't even looked at what the price is. I plan to walk up the day of and try to find something on the street for under face.

No band < Crappy Band

College hockey needs bands to make it feel right.

Re: North Star College Cup - MN, UMD, MSU, SCSU

SCSU's band should be banned from the face of the universe. They are a disgrace to the music department and the university.

Note: I am for sports bands (On Wisconsin), but if you are going to be at a game, it would be great if you knew a thing or two about the sport instead of walking in thinking you are going to win respect from the get go.

He does bring up an interesting point. Why haven't I heard any band play Brass Bonanza? That needs to be fixed.

Yup. Plus as a band snob I'm qualified make fun of other schools' bands and how much they suck. Even Wisconsin's.

As of Wednesday, there are over 5,000 tickets still available. Tickets on the street before the game will be around $20 from fans. Of course the regular scalpers will try and get $30-$40.

People were down in Saint Paul watching the Final Five the week prior, and the regionals are dull and dry where the Final Five was an absolute party and a great time. I don't think it's crazy that UND/UMN didn't sell out a 5 pm game on a Sunday.
