North Dakota Offseason Thread

Re: North Dakota Offseason Thread

Two more really good articles on Matt Frattin on the LA Kings website:

FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THESE ARTICLES:

"He's not big per se, but from his butt down he's a big boy," Lombardi said.

It's a dream job for any forward who thinks he's ready to take the next step in his career, and maybe just enough to turn Frattin into one of the Kings' most dangerous scoring threats for the foreseeable future.

"He's got some things that are hard to teach," Lombardi told NHL.com.

"First off, he's exceptionally well-trained, which allows him to really utilize his skill set," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "He's got really good hands and he can really skate. Those are three pretty good attributes to have coming into training camp and to start the season."

Frattin constantly is working on his game with Sutter and assistant coaches John Stevens and Davis Payne. He spends a lot of time watching videos of him and Kings captain Dustin Brown, who like Frattin is a right-handed shot playing on his off wing.

"There's a lot to learn from him," Frattin said of Brown. "He has established himself on his off side."

The Kings are giving Frattin an opportunity to do the same. If it works with Richards and Carter, they may have an even faster version of Brown on their second line.

"You can't ask for anything more," Frattin said. "Everybody in the whole organization has been telling me they've been trying to trade for me since college. I'm at a place where they want me and want me to succeed. Any player wants that. I just have to keep a level head, play my game and have my ears open to any opinions the coaching staff has."

I think it's a message that the team is going to look to him for a little grit. We are relatively young, defensively, and have some question marks regarding scoring. This team is going to have to rely upon some grit and solid goaltending, especially early, if they want to have some success. Guys like Pattyn will have to step up and supply it.

I'm a little surprised that The General got the A. But he plays a lot like Lammy, and he wore the C.

I liked Lammy a lot, like most Sioux fans, but he made more than his share of poor decisions that landed him in the box his last year, IMO

Agreed - Pattyn certainly plays a gritty style.

I don't disagree - just sayin he and Pattyn play similar styles. Hopefully Pattyn can do a better job of staying out of the box.

Re: North Dakota Offseason Thread

Simpson seems to have been flying below the radar so far with most sports analysts. He is only 20 but now in his senior year and captain. Some analysts and scouts are beginning to realize that Dillon is a player to watch this season. Last season in his junior year was the most improved player at UND. I hear that he has been working hard to improve his foot speed. Some pro scouts will be watching with added interest this season. Here are two recent articles: http://www.coppernblue.com/2013/9/26/4770664/dillon-simpson http://www.coppernblue.com/2013/8/6/4593804/13-dillon-simpson

As a senior, he's younger than some of the freshmen.
he is younger than all seven juniors and five of the seven sophomores on the UND squad

Having completed a four year NCAA career, Simpson will have the right to wait out a delay period and become an unrestricted free agent should he choose.

with so much experience at such a young age, he's got a lot going for him

Re: North Dakota Offseason Thread

On a positive note, whining from goofer fans would go down dramatically.

Oh, I'm sure the whining from the Whioux fans about the conspiracy against them by the NCAA, the refs, and anyone else, will more than make up for it. :p

Besides you guys are irrelevant to us now in your little league that no one will see...
