NMU Wildcats @ Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs: 2/6 & 2/7 - Someone start a thread already

Not too disappointed with the loss. Looks like Doan kept NMU in it 'till the end. The good part is Ferris and Bemidji didn't gain anything and the Cats will stay in 4th heading back into conference play.

Doan had a great game. Defensively, NMU played very well. However... they had very little offense. UMD was a lot faster than NMU tonight and that made it hard for NMU to keep the puck in their offensive zone. Vandercook was a standout as well. That blue line goal was a lot of good luck by UMD and bad luck by NMU. Had that not gone in, it would have been a different game.

However, there is a reason UMD is #7. It still wouldnt hurt if NMU could regroup and pull off a win tomorrow.

Additionally... 3 penalties all night. There were a ton that were not called. However, at least the refs were not calling them evenly.

NMU really had zero offense. I can't think of any chances after the first where I was strongly concerned about a goal being scored. The first goal by UMD was extremely lucky, and goes to show you what happens when you shoot the puck. Although one out of a five hundred shots like that go in. That was crazy. As for the reffing...it was a quiet night by them. Perhaps they thought it was over and didn't want to call anything so they could end the night sooner

Attended game and tUMD looked much quicker than NMU. Doan is a big goalie and stopped alot of shots with good positioning, but even coach Kyle thought goals 1 and 3 were weak. Should be another battle tonight.

Much different game so far than last night. NMU needs to tighten up in the next 2 periods.

Yikes. A -82 Corsi rating for the Cats on the weekend.

Tonight UMD didn't take NMU lightly and it showed. They played well in all phases of the game and were able to get another SHG. It sounds like NMU is depleted with injuries and was starting many underclassmen. Easiest sweep for tUMD all year. Sounds like I have a few friends that want to go to Marquette next year...can't wait and hopefully it works out for me to go.

I'm excited to see where this Bulldog team can go, hopefully they'll win some special games in March and maybe April.

I didn't know Corsi went negative....

Last night 12 shots allowed first period. Saturday, 10 shots allowed. Scoring chances were equal.

It seems you really enjoy trying to prove people wrong on this forum. I was aware of the SOG total. However, there were major differences from the previous night. For instance, the penalty total, the amount of goals. Both were much higher. I was largely referring to the amount of goals. Hence why I said they need to tighten up.

NMU held there own at times. They had some great goals. However, with such a large SOG disparity, it would be hard for any team to pull off a win without near perfect goal tending. tUMD is a very good team and I hope this will help the Cats to realize some of their weaknesses going forward. I also hope they can get some of their key players, who are out with injury, healthy.

The injuries are a major problem. According to the coach, it's likely Shine will be out another 2-4 weeks. Neither Dahlstrom nor Eibler made the trip to Duluth and their status is indefinite and the Jones injury remains to be determined pending exam early this week. Hopefully we'll have an update on the coaches show on Monday.

What a strange way to end the season after the hot first third of the season. Go 6-1-1 and then .500 in Alaska, Dahlstrom being injured, have the offense perform a better disappearing act than the movie "The Prestige" and go 1-7-4, the... distraction, Dahlstrom being injured again, and now other injuries to key players.

What's amazing is the fact that for as turbulent as this season has been, they're *STILL* .500 in both overall and conference play. A 19 win season is still attainable. AND, we're still well in the hunt for the final home ice spot for the WCHA playoffs.

What a roller coaster it has been :o

Home ice is a realistic expectation here, although it will take some work... Given that MTU could be looking for the MacNaughton Cup on the final weekend, there should be some intensity there... We'll have to just hunker down and do what we can... Just make it to March... From there on out, just go back to old school NMU and play the crap out of the underdog roll...

Can either Doan or Dun step up and be "the guy" while Dahlstrom is out?

Doan has some great talent. Unfortunately, he has played in some very hard games. In both the PSU and tUMD series, he was peppered with shots. Even though he has more losses than wins, he still has some impressive stats. I haven't seen enough of Dun to say. However, he was good in the Alaska game.

Regardless of who is in net, NMU needs a lot more offense. They also need to clean up their passing and cut down on the messy turnovers.

They have a great group of players. I have no doubt that they are capable of rallyin and securing that 4th home ice slot.
