NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Does anyone know what happened to NMU Senior Forward John Siemer (5'9" 175lbs) and NMU Junior Defenseman Zach Urban (6'3" 205lbs)???? Both of them aren't listed on the 2016-17 NMU Hockey roster from the NMU website???? They were both top line players for NMU the past two seasons!!!!!!!

Siemer failed multiple drug tests after being warned. Too bad, as he was a really skilled player.

Ouch. I remember when Tech went through this with Eric Kattelus (plus the final straw with him - stealing team equipment).

He was never your guys' best player, but he was one of the better ones. That said, his numbers trended south after his promising freshman year, despite often being a little b-tard against Tech. Hope he gets help - if he really did blow more than one drug test, he clearly needs it.

That said, I'm still amused that you guys have a player named "Purpur". Seems he can only score against us though. Bleh.

Ah yes, the kid whose grandfather is a Hall of Famer.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Former star player Justin Kinnunen was killed in a vehicle-pedestrian crash this past Friday in Jacksonville, Florida.

Most of us may remember Justin from his days in the green and gold from 2000 to 2004. A few others here may remember him earlier than that from his days with the Sault Sainte Marie Indians and/or the Marquette Electricians.

Thoughts and prayers to his family with this news. :(

I really hope the team does a patch in his honor for this season. What a terrible way to kick off the 40th season.

Alrighty, I hate to be the guy beating the dead horse here and I'd hate to start the rumor mill again, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has info. A friend of mine said one of the coaches at Marquette hockey tryouts held at the Berry said that they would be installing a video board for the upcoming season. I've heard absolutely nothing about this. Has anyone else? I know Karr has talked about it for the near future. Again, hate to beat the dead horse, just trying to find out if there's any truth.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

While visiting Marquette at the end of last month, I heard that the scoreboards were moving to the walls behind the goals and a video board would be hung at center ice. I never stepped inside the Berry to check.

I was in the Berry today. No changes regarding that however they have updated some wall logos and the press box logo. If this is true, I can't wait to see it. This will be interesting to watch for as the season approaches.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

The scoreboard news would be a big positive to the program. I also am interested in what the plan is to honor the 40 years of the program. And the 25th anniversary of our National Title. LSSU already unveiled a 50th anniversary logo for their season.

After talking to some folks in the Athletic Department today I can confirm the video board story is true and will be ready for the exhibition game against Victoria on October 1st. 4 sided board will be hung at center.

That will be a really nice addition to the arena.

NMU signs Walt Kyle's final 2016-17 recruit Forward Luke Voltin (6'0" 195lbs) Blaine, MN - Penticton Vees (BCHL)....

Is there a certain section(s) NMU fans generally sit in at the Resch? Finally going to make it up there this season. I prefer not to be in a sea of red.

No video board yet. We're 22 days until the home exhibition game against Victoria, and 34 days until our first home conference game. I don't think they can get it done in this short of a time frame.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

I was told yesterday the scoreboard will be taken down this Monday (9/12) and they will start installing the video board on Friday (9/16).

That would be fantastic! Can't wait to watch on the webcam!

I've also been told it'll be 8 feet by 15 feet. This is simply what I've gathered. I can't wait to see it. I may have to peek in on Friday.

Also, they've already installed the new scoreboards on the walls behind each net. If I knew how to post photos from my phone, I would. Very nice touch.
