NMU @ BSU Turkey Weekend

Re: NMU @ BSU Turkey Weekend

Well, I had to miss the trip to Marquette last year - this go 'round I've got nothing keeping me from both games. I haven't seen NMU live and in person since 2002, Kyle's first year.

It will be interesting to see what attendance looks like this weekend, with no students around.

Yeah, a little bummed that we have to miss the weekend, but this was the only weekend we could work our son's baptism into the extended family schedule.

Oh well, Scotty and Monzie will have to do!

Re: NMU @ BSU Turkey Weekend

If I hear "the guys played really hard - I'm proud of them" or "where getting close" quotes from Serratore after this weekend, like we've been hearing every Friday and all but a couple of Saturday nights, I'm ready to shut her down for the year.

Good lord, you can't be serious. BSU shold have stayed in the CHA then  ...

You do realize that 5 of BSU's 7 losses have come against the current top three teams in the WCHA, right? That BSU has a tie vs. the top team, and could have easily "split" that weekend with another 7 seconds? And that means that BSU hasn't played most of the "bottom half" yet, outside UAA...

Did you really think the WCHA would be easy?

BSU has played the fourth hardest schedule in the nation up to this point (according to a post over on Goon's World, which comes from KRACH ratings).

Really, you think UND, UMD, DU and (maybe ;) SCSU are that much better than NU and Robert Morris? :)

Instead of saying "shut 'er down," I should have said "lower expectations." :)

They should know it takes a full 60 minutes or 65 minutes every night. They've let leads slip away against the top teams of the WCHA (and St. Cloud and AA). They've also not played "Beaver hockey" a few nights too (i.e Friday vs UAA) and taken some bad penalties and key turn-overs, some due to getting caught out of position and some due to being out-skilled.

OK, rant over. I hope the second and third line can get some points this weekend, too.

Re: NMU @ BSU Turkey Weekend

Guess the Cat's might as well stay home. Doesn't sound like they have much of a chance.

The previous discussion really belongs in the BSU season thread, as it has nothing to do with NMU's visit (which should be a couple good games).

Re: NMU @ BSU Turkey Weekend

Anyone know Northern's travel schedule this week? Having been in Fairbanks last weekend, do they fly home and then bus to Bemidji? Or do they head right to Bemidji and spend the week? Tough week, travel wise, either way.

Flew home (via Sea-Tac, MSP, and Green Bay (and bussed from GB home)) all day Sunday. Got in to MQT about 9 or 10 pm last night. They'll leave Thursday morning via bus for Bemidji.

NCAA rules dictate you cannot leave for your regular season games more than 48 hours in advance from the start time of the scheduled meet (trips to Alaska and Hawaii are exempt from this rule).

Hope they beat the alledged snowstorm that's coming....

There are exceptions, though, to the 48 hour rule. If, for example, NMU had this whole week off, rather than just having Wed-Fri off, they could have come straight to Bemidji. Since there was school today and tomorrow, they had to go back to Marquette.

As examples, BSU went out east a few years ago, playing at Merrimack and UConn and staying out there. BSU has also stayed "east" playing Niagara and RMU over break. RMU also stayed in Bemidji over spring break in '09 after the last week of the regular season before the conference tourney.
Hope they beat the alledged snowstorm that's coming....

"Alledged?" We already got a foot in Bemidji today with more on its way Wednesday through Thursday...

Yeah, I've been watching local news, where everything is "Alledged." I heard Bemidji got about a foot of snow today and are expecting another foot of snow Wednesday...

They could leave earlier this week due to the Thanksgiving break. Weather may dictate departure time for this one. As for the 48 hour rule, NMU is one of the few schools who follow it closely. You basically would have to self report any violation or really anger another school to get busted on it.

You'll have to show us the town Moose!
